BACKGROUND: Transitions between perennial and an annual life history occur often in plant lineages, but the genes that control whether a plant is an annual or perennial are largely unknown. To identify genes that confer differences between annuals and perennials we compared the gene content of four pairs of sister lineages (Arabidopsis thaliana/Arabidopsis lyrata, Arabis montbretiana/Arabis alpina, Arabis verna/Aubrieta parviflora and Draba nemorosa/Draba hispanica) in the Brassicaceae in which each pair contains one annual and one perennial, plus one extra annual species (Capsella rubella).

Fanleaf degeneration is considered the most damaging viral disease of grapevine. The two major nepoviruses involved are Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) and Arabis mosaic virus (ArMV) which are respectively and specifically transmitted by the dagger nematodes Xiphinema index and X. diversicaudatum. The methods described below are aimed at detecting four prevalent grapevine Xiphinema species: the vector species previously mentioned and two nonvector species X. vuittenezi and X. italiae.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to estimate the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder between 2 and 4 years old in Riyadh, Saudi Arabi Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among Saudi children aged 2-4 years between December 2017 and March 2018 at five different hospitals in Riyadh.
RESULTS: A Total of 398 children were included. The prevalence of ASD was estimated to be (2.51%, 1:40, 25 per 1000)), with a male to female ratio of 3:1.
CONCLUSION: The estimated high prevalence rate of ASD is close to recent trends in international studies. Future population-based studies are required.

Culinary rhubarb (Rheum spp.) comprises herbaceous perennials that are primarily clonally propagated. Like other asexually reproduced crops, rhubarb is vulnerable to virus transmission, but its virome remains poorly characterized. In April 2024, foliar virus-like symptoms including chlorotic and necrotic leaf spots, chlorosis, and stunting were observed on cultivar 'Kerwin' in the rhubarb collection at Cornell AgriTech in Geneva, NY. Symptomatic leaf tissue tested positive for tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV) in double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using specific antibodies.
