Successful crosses between fungal-resistant wild species of Arachis (section Arachis) and Arachis hypogaea.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is the fifth most produced oil crop worldwide. Besides lack of water, fungal diseases are the most limiting factors for the crop. Several species of Arachis are resistant to certain pests and diseases. This study aimed to successfully cross the A-genome with B-K-A genome wild species previously selected for fungal disease resistance, but that are still untested. We also aimed to polyplodize the amphihaploid chromosomes; cross the synthetic amphidiploids and A. hypogaea to introgress disease resistance genes into the cultivated peanut; and analyze pollen viability and

Molecular analysis of Arachis interspecific hybrids.

Incorporation of genetic resistance against several biotic stresses that plague cultivated peanut, Arachis hypogaea (2n = 4x = 40), is an ideal option to develop disease resistant and ecologically safe peanut varieties. The primary gene pool of peanut contains many diploid wild species (2n = 2x = 20) of Arachis, which have high levels of disease and insect resistances. However, transfer of resistant genes from these species into A. hypogaea is difficult due to ploidy level differences and genomic incompatibilities. This study was conducted to monitor alien germplasm transmission, using Random

Slow encephalopathies, inflammatory responses and arachis oil.

There is much interest in the possibility that diets rich in some plant oils may be of prophylactic and curative value in certain clinical conditions. This is generally attributed to the immunosuppressive effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Arachis (peanut) oil injections can increase the incubation period of experimental scrapie in mice. In the late 1950s several workers showed that arachis and some other oils contained very potent anti-inflammatory components quite apart from the polyunsaturated fatty acids. This suggests that the supposed efficacy of these acids in some clinical situati

Arachis ampelovirus 1, a novel ampelovirus infecting forage peanut.

A novel ampelovirus, designated “arachis ampelovirus 1” (ArAV1), was identified through high-throughput sequencing in forage peanut (Arachis pintoi). The ArAV1 genome sequence, confirmed by Sanger sequencing, comprises 12,940 nucleotides and contains seven open reading frames (ORFs), indicating a typical ampelovirus genome structure. The HSP70 homolog, RdRp, and CP proteins were found to exhibit less than 75% amino acid sequence identity to those of other ampeloviruses. Phylogenetic analysis based on amino acid sequences of the HSP70 homolog and the RdRp showed that pineapple mealybug wilt-ass

Manufacturing processes of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) allergen powder-dnfp.

BACKGROUND: Important components of drug safety, efficacy, and acceptability involve manufacturing and testing of the drug substance and drug product. Peanut flour sourcing/processing and manufacturing processes may affect final drug product allergen potency and contamination level, possibly impacting drug safety, quality, and efficacy. We describe key steps in the manufacturing processes of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) allergen powder-dnfp (PTAH; Palforzia®), a drug used in oral immunotherapy (OIT) for the treatment of peanut allergy. METHODS: Established criteria for source material must be me

Final report on the safety assessment of Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Oil, Hydrogenated Peanut Oil, Peanut Acid, Peanut Glycerides, and Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Flour.

Peanut (Arachis Hypogaea) Oil is the refined fixed oil obtained from the seed kernels of Arachis hypogaea. Hydrogenated Peanut Oil, Peanut Acid, and Peanut Glycerides are all derived from Peanut Oil. Peanut Flour is a powder obtained by the grinding of peanuts. The oils and glycerides function in cosmetic formulations as skin-conditioning agents. The acid functions as a surfactant-cleansing agent, and the flour functions as an abrasive, bulking agent and/or viscosity-increasing agent. In 1998, only Peanut Oil and Hydrogenated Peanut Oil were reported in use. When applied to the skin, Peanut Oi

miRNA-Mediated Regulation of Meloidogyne arenaria Responses in Wild Arachis.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are key post-transcriptional regulators of plant development and stress responses, with many being conserved across diverse plant lineages. In this study, we investigated the expression profiles of miRNAs and their corresponding target genes in Arachis stenosperma, a wild peanut relative that exhibits robust resistance to root-knot nematodes (RKN). Small RNA sequencing of nematode-infected roots identified 107 miRNA loci, of which 93 corresponded to conserved miRNA families and 14 represented novel candidates, designated as miRNOVO. Among these, 18 miRNAs belonging to 11 con

Molecular cloning and characterization of NPR1 gene from Arachis hypogaea.

The NPR1 gene was an important regulator for a plant disease resistance. The cDNA of NPR1 gene was cloned from peanut cultivar Ri Hua 1 by rapid amplification of cDNA ends-polymerase chain reaction (RACE-PCR). The full length cDNA of Arachis hypogaea NPR1 consisted of 2,078 base pairs with a 1,446 bp open-reading frame encoding 481 amino acids. The predicted NPR1 contained the highly conserved functional domains (BTB/POZ domain from M1 to D116), protein-protein interaction domains (three ankyrin repeats from K158 to L186; N187 to L217 and R221 to D250) and one NPR1-like domain (C262 to S469).

Species relationships among the wild B genome of Arachis species (section Arachis) based on FISH mapping of rDNA loci and heterochromatin detection: a new proposal for genome arrangement.

Arachis hypogaea is an allotetraploid species with low genetic variability. Its closest relatives, all of the genus Arachis, are important sources of alleles for peanut breeding. However, a better understanding of the genome constitution of the species and of the relationships among taxa is needed for the effective use of the secondary gene pool of Arachis. In the present work, we focused on all 11 non-A genome (or B genome sensu lato) species of Arachis recognized so far. Detailed karyotypes were developed by heterochromatin detection and mapping of the 5S and the 18S-25S rRNA using FISH. On

Two Cultivars of Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Show Different Responses to Iron Deficiency.

Background: Peanut is susceptible to iron (Fe) deficiency, particularly in calcareous soils. However, comparative studies on the adaptive mechanisms of different peanut cultivars to Fe deficiency remain limited. This study aimed to investigate the physiological and molecular responses of two distinct peanut cultivars to Fe deprivation and to identify the key traits contributing to differential Fe efficiency. Methods: Two peanut cultivars, LH11 and YZ9102, were cultivated under Fe-sufficient and Fe-deficient conditions, using both hydroponic and pot-based soil culture systems. Multiple paramete

Silica nanoparticles conferring resistance to bacterial wilt in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.).

Peanut bacterial wilt (PBW) caused by the pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum severely affects the growth and yield potential of peanut crop. In this study, we synthesized silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs), a prospective efficient management approach to control PBW, and conducted a hydroponic experiment to investigate the effects of different SiO2 NPs treatments (i.e., 0, 100, and 500 mg L-1 as NP0, NP100, and NP500, respectively) on promoting plant growth and resistance to R. solanacearum. Results indicated that the disease indices of NP100 and NP500 decreased by 51.5 % and 55.4 % as compared with

New peanut (Arachis hypogaea) phytoalexin with prenylated benzenoid and but-2-enolide moieties.

A new pigmented, optically active, low molecular weight metabolite has been isolated from peanut (Arachis hypogaea) kernels challenged by four species of Aspergillus. The structure of the new compound, termed SB-1, was elucidated by analysis of 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectrometric data. The SB-1 molecule bears prenylated benzenoid and but-2-enolide moieties and represents an unusual class of compounds. The closest known analogue to SB-1 was isolated from heartwood of Pericopsis elata. Both A. hypogaea and P. elata belong to the family Leguminosae. The new metabolite was accumulated in diffe

Antiviral Activity of Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Skin Extract Against Human Influenza Viruses.

The high propensity of influenza viruses to develop resistance to antiviral drugs necessitates the continuing search for new therapeutics. Peanut skins, which are low-value byproducts of the peanut industry, are known to contain high levels of polyphenols. In this study, we investigated the antiviral activity of ethanol extracts of peanut skins against various influenza viruses using cell-based assays. Extracts with a higher polyphenol content exhibited higher antiviral activities, suggesting that the active components are the polyphenols. An extract prepared from roasted peanut skins effectiv

Is Arachis pintoi associated with effective native rhizobial strains in the Central Highlands of Vietnam?

AIMS: Intensive agricultural practices have led to severe soil degradation in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Integrating legumes as cover crops is a promising strategy to restore soil fertility via biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). Arachis pintoi has been increasingly promoted in Vietnam for adoption as a cover crop but the diversity and efficiency of its native rhizobial partners remain poorly documented. This study assessed the diversity of indigenous rhizobial strains nodulating A. pintoi in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and evaluated their symbiotic efficiency and ability to suppor

Origin of triploid Arachis pintoi (Leguminosae) by autopolyploidy evidenced by FISH and meiotic behaviour.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Polyploidy is a dominant feature of flowering-plant genomes, including those of many important crop species. Arachis is a largely diploid genus with just four polyploid species. Two of them are economically important: the cultivated peanut and A. glabrata, a tropical forage crop. Even though it is usually accepted that polyploids within papilionoid legumes have arisen via hybridization and further chromosome doubling, it has been recently suggested that peanut arose through bilateral sexual polyploidization. In this paper, the polyploid nature of the recent, spontaneously

Root colonization by Serendipita indica triggers resistance against stem rot in Arachis hypogaea L.

Root colonization by the endophytic fungus Serendipita indica (Si) effectively inhibited Sclerotium rolfsii (Sr) and controlled peanut stem rot. In vitro and microscopic analyses confirmed the strong antifungal activity of S. indica against S. rolfsii. Pot experiments revealed that Si markedly reduced the disease index to 5.12 ± 0.49% in resistant 'Luhua11' (L) and 8.65 ± 0.53% in susceptible 'Huayu6103' (H), indicating > 90% protection. Furthermore, Si colonization increased the biomass and health of the two peanut cultivars. Antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly increased: peroxid

Osmolyte-producing microbial biostimulants regulate the growth of Arachis hypogaea L. under drought stress.

Globally, drought stress poses a significant threat to crop productivity. Improving the drought tolerance of crops with microbial biostimulants is a sustainable strategy to meet a growing population's demands. This research aimed to elucidate microbial biostimulants' (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) role in alleviating drought stress in oil-seed crops. In total, 15 bacterial isolates were selected for drought tolerance and screened for plant growth-promoting (PGP) attributes like phosphate solubilization and production of indole-3-acetic acid, siderophore, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and
