The Evolutionary Significance of Leaf Nodulation: Evidence from Ardisia and Its Relatives (Primulaceae: Myrsinoideae).

Interactions between plants and microorganisms have long been a central topic in biological research. Bacterial symbiosis on leaf surfaces represents a distinctive and mutually beneficial system within the phyllosphere microbiome. Leaf nodules are the visible manifestation of the symbiosis and confer ecological advantages to host plants by enhancing host resistance against pathogens and herbivores. It has been hypothesized that these advantages promote higher diversification rates in host lineages, but this remains uncertain. Ardisia subg. Crispardisia and its close relatives (Amblyanthopsis a

Ardisia crenata extract stimulates melanogenesis in B16F10 melanoma cells through inhibiting ERK1/2 and Akt activation.

Melanin protects the skin against ultraviolet radiation by scattering incoming light and absorbing diverse free radicals. Agents that increase melanin synthesis in melanocytes may reduce the risk of photodamage and skin cancer. The present study investigated the effect of a methanol extract of Ardisia crenata (AC) on melanogenesis in B16F10 cells. Treatment of cultured B16F10 cells with AC extract (10, 20 and 40 µg/ml) stimulated an increase in melanin levels in a concentration-dependent manner, without cytotoxicity. Tyrosinase is key in the regulation of melanin production, thus the effect of

Angio-suppressive triterpenoids from Ardisia cf. elliptica (subgenus Tinus) on duck (Anas platyrynchos L.) chorioallantoic membrane.

The dichloromethane extract of the air-dried leaves of Ardisia cf. elliptica (subgenus Tinus) afforded a mixture of bauerenol (1a), α-amyrin (1b) and β-amyrin (1c). Their structures were identified by NMR spectroscopy. Mixtures of the triterpenes (1a-1c) at ratios of 2 : 2 : 1, 2 : 2 : 3 and 1 : 1 : 1 were tested for their angio-suppressive effects on duck chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). All three ratios were found to be effective in restricting inter-capillary length, while 1a-1c (2 : 2 : 1) was most effective in reducing branch point density with 100% CAM viability and embryo survivability,

Quinone-rich fraction of Ardisia crispa (Thunb.) A. DC roots alters angiogenic cascade in collagen-induced arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic joint disorder, of which, excessive angiogenesis is the well-established factor contributing to synovitis and joint destruction. Ardisia crispa (Primulaceae) is a medicinal herb with evidenced anti-angiogenic properties, attributed to 2-methoxy-6-undecyl-1,4-benzoquinone (BQ) found in its roots. However, it is still unclear how BQ is able to inhibit angiogenesis in RA. Hence, we investigated the anti-arthritic potential of quinone-rich fraction (QRF) separated from Ardisia crispa roots hexane extract (ACRH) by targeting angiogenesis on collagen-induced ar

Population genomics reveals a representation gap in the conservation of Ardisia gigantifolia (Primulaceae), an endangered species endemic to China.

BACKGROUND: Ardisia gigantifolia Stapf is a critically endangered medicinal plant endemic to China that is characterized by a narrow distribution range and small population sizes. Ex situ conservation is an important complementary strategy for in situ, protecting wild plant species from loss of genetic diversity and possible extinction in the wild. However, the extent to which ex situ collections genetically represent their wild populations remains poorly understood. RESULTS: In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity and structure of 67 individuals using double digest restriction-site-

Two taxonomically similar plant species are projected to become the key alternative wild resources to Ardisia crenata Sims.

Severe overharvesting and habitat degradation of Ardisia crenata Sims (ZSG) urgently necessitate sustainable alternatives. Ardisia crenata subsp. crenata (HLS) and Ardisia crispa (Thunb.) A. DC (BLJ) emerge as promising candidates. We comprehensively compared the three plants in terms of morphological characteristics, biomass, bergenin content, metabolite profiles, and therapeutic efficacy. The results showed that the three plants shared 96.5% similarity in their metabolites and key active ingredients. They also exhibited comparable morphological characteristics, biomass, therapeutic effects,
