Protective effect of Atriplex suberecta extract against oxidative and apoptotic hepatotoxicity.

Atriplex suberecta I. Verd is a known phytomedicinal species of Atriplex; however, studies into its bioactivity remain inconclusive. The in vitro and in vivo antioxidative and hepatoprotective potential of A. suberecta ethanol-extract (ASEE) was assessed in the present study. 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and β-carotene bleaching assays revealed that ASEE possesses free radical scavenging and anti-lipid peroxidative activities. These results were supported by the in vitro protection of HepG2 hepatoblastoma cells via abating 2,7-dichlorofluorescein-activated oxidative and apo

Phytoremediation of dinitrophenol from wastewater by atriplex lentiformis: effect of salicylic acid.

Quail bush [Atriplex lentiformis (Torr.) S. Wats] plants were used in removing 2, 4-dinitrophenol (DNP) from wastewater in a hydroponic experiment. The hydroponic system contained three doses of DNP, i.e., 0, 10, and 20 mg L-1. Quail bush plants were sprayed with 0.1 mM salicylic acid (SA) to study its role in resisting DNP toxicity. DNP significantly (p < 0.05) reduced plant growth. Exposure of A. lentiformis plants to 20 mg L-1 of DNP reduced the total chlorophyl and relative water content by 39 and 24%, respectively. SA improved the antioxidant defense in terms of ascorbate peroxidase (APX)

Phosphorus deficiency modifies As translocation in the halophyte plant species Atriplex atacamensis.

Most arsenic in surface soil and water exists primarily in its oxidized form, as arsenate (As(V); AsO43-), which is an analog of phosphate (PO43-). Arsenate can be taken up by phosphate transporters. Atriplex atacamensis Phil. is native to northern Chile (Atacama Desert), and this species can cope with high As concentrations and low P availability in its natural environment. To determine the impact of P on As accumulation and tolerance in A. atacamensis, the plants were cultivated in a hydroponic system under four treatments: no As(V) addition with 323µM phosphate (control); 1000µM As(V) addit

Reclamation of highly calcareous saline sodic soil using Atriplex halimus and by-product gypsum.

The removal of sodium salts from saline soils by salt tolerant crops, as alternative for costly chemical amendments, has emerged as an efficient low cost technology. Lysimeter experiments were carried out on a highly saline sodic soil (ECe = 65.3 dS m(-1), ESP = 27.4, CEC = 47.9 cmole+ kg(-1), and pH = 7.7) and irrigated with canal water (EC = 2.2 dSm(-1), SAR = 4.8) to investigate reclamation efficiency under four different treatments: control (no crop and no gypsum application) (C), gypsum application equivalent to 100% gypsum requirement (G100), planting sea orach (Atriplex halimus) as phyt

Flavonoid-mediated biofilm inhibition and toxicological evaluation of Atriplex laciniata against multidrug-resistant MRSA.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) superbugs threaten the efficacy of antibiotics, so new drug formulations from synthetic or natural sources are needed to combat antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) infections. Traditional herbs are often considered alternatives for treating AMR and MDR infections. The present study involves evaluations of the efficacy and safety of Atriplex laciniata aqueous (AL-Aq-Ext) and flavonoid-rich (AL-Flv-Ext) extracts against MDR MRSA strains. The efficacies of the extracts against MRSA were tested for bacterial viability and biofilm inhibition through the MTT assay, OD600 nm measu

Hormonal and transcriptomic reprogramming underlie responses to recurrent drought in the halophyte Atriplex halimus L.

This study provides the first integrative assessment of drought stress memory in a halophyte, highlighting the role of recurrent drought in shaping physiological and molecular responses in plants adapted to unpredictable and stressful environments. Here, we investigated the physiological, biochemical and transcriptomic responses of the xerohalophyte Atriplex halimus L. exposed to one, two or three consecutive drought cycles (D1-D3). Each cycle consisted of severe water deficit (<5% field capacity) followed by a rehydration phase, evaluating water relations, gas exchange, phytohormone profiles,

Phytoextraction of salts by Atriplex Nummularia Lindl. irrigated with reject brine under varying water availability.

Reverse osmosis is a widely known technology used to produce fresh water from brackish waters. However, the reject brine from desalination plants poses a serious threat to the environment due to soil and groundwater salinization. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of Atriplex nummularia to extract salts from a soil irrigated with reverse osmosis brine, at varying moisture levels. A field experiment was conducted in a split-plot design, with randomized complete blocks replicated four times. Treatments consisted of irrigation with reject brine in the main plots, with four rel

The role of seed appendage in improving the adaptation of a species in definite seasons: a case study of Atriplex centralasiatica.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: As a common accompanying dispersal structure, specialized seed appendages play a critical role in the successful germination and dispersal of many plants, and are regarded as an adaptation character for plants survival in diverse environments. However, little is known about how the appendages modulate the linkage between germination and environmental factors. Here, we tested the responses of germination to seasonal environmental signals (temperature and humidity) via seed appendages using Atriplex centralasiatica, which is widely distributed in salt marshlands with dry-cold winter

Diurnal light fitness of the C3 and C4 species from the genus Atriplex under control and drought conditions.

The literature showed contradictory results regarding the acclimation of C3 and C4 photosynthesis to low light intensities. Atriplex halimus, A. nummularia (C4, NAD-ME), A. portulacoides and A. prostrata (C3) were exposed to three natural light intensities: full light (FL), medium light (ML) and low light (LL) under control or drought condition. Under control condition, in A. halimus and A. nummularia, photosynthetic rate (A) was proportionally linked to stomatal conductance (gs). In A. halimus, A and gs peaked at 9:00 and 12:00 at FL only. However, A and gs peaked at 9:00 and 12:00 under FL a
