Auriculotherapy stimulation for neuro-rehabilitation.

The capability of reflex points on the external ear to alter neuromuscular and neuropathic disorders has been attributed to the descending pain inhibitory pathways of the central nervous system. The inverted fetus perspective of the somatotopic arrangement of auricular acupuncture points was first described in the 1950's by Dr. Paul Nogier of France, and has received scientific support from double blind studies examining auricular diagnosis of musculoskeletal and of coronary disorders. Acupuncture points on the ear and on the body have lower levels of electrical skin resistance than surroundin

Effects of auriculotherapy on addiction: a systematic review.

Auriculotherapy has been used to reduce withdrawal symptoms during drug detoxication. The purpose of this study was to review the results of the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the impact of auriculotherapy on addiction. This study aimed to find an effective protocol involving auricular acupuncture points, intervention duration and frequency, and stimulating methods. We searched PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Medline for articles published between January 1, 1994, and March 31, 2021. The keywords used were auricular, acupuncture

History of Auriculotherapy: Additional Information and New Developments.

Auriculotherapy, the treatment of patients using ear-point stimulation, is a French technique, deeply rooted in a European medical tradition. Although the French physician, Paul Nogier, MD (1908-1996 ad) invented and promoted auriculotherapy, it is nevertheless worth mentioning, in the course of European history, the occasional use of the ear to relieve head, face, or sciatic nerve pain. It took several centuries to find a physician who attempted to understand why some healers obtained interesting therapeutic results with ear-point stimulation. The exact history of auriculotherapy remained a m

Efficacy of auriculotherapy in reducing pain: a comprehensive literature review.

INTRODUCTION: This review examines the efficacy of auriculotherapy in reducing pain across acute and chronic contexts, focusing on pain intensity scores, analgesic requirements, and safety profiles. METHODS: A comprehensive, English-language literature search was conducted across PubMed, b-On, Web of Science, Scopus, and SciELO using Boolean combinations of terms related to auriculotherapy, chronic and acute pain, and randomized trials (searches first run March 2026, re-run June 2026). Eligibility was defined a priori using a PICOS framework. From 280 initially identified records, 13 studies

Laser auriculotherapy for the treatment of pain: a scoping review.

PURPOSE: While auriculotherapy is utilized for pain management, the specific application of photobiomodulation (PBM) within this modality remains poorly characterized. This scoping review aims to map the available evidence on PBM in auriculotherapy for pain relief, specifically characterizing therapeutic protocols and laser parameters to guide future research. METHODS: Following Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, major databases were searched for clinical trials evaluating auricular PBM for pain. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the PEDro scale. This rev

BACKGROUND: This study aims to observe how auriculotherapy acts as a nonpharmacological treatment for pregnant women's gestational hypertension. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was a randomized controlled trial. Eighty patients were with gestational hypertension recruited and divided into control (n = 40) and intervention (n = 40) groups. The control group just received the usual perinatal care. The intervention group received one month of auriculotherapy in addition to the usual care. Blood pressure was measured before and 15 minutes after rest in both groups twice a week. The data were an

Does auriculotherapy have therapeutic effectiveness? An overview of systematic reviews.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Auriculotherapy is a therapeutic technique used for a wide variety of conditions. Nevertheless, similarly to any health related intervention, the clinical use of this therapy requires scientific evidence of effectiveness in order to support its rational use. The main goal of this article is to critically analyze published literature on auriculotherapy and to provide an overview of the effectiveness of this technique in the management of health disorders. METHODS: The inventory of published reviews on this subject was carried out in November 2017, by assessing the follo

Effects of auriculotherapy on nausea and vomiting in pregnant women: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy induces physiological changes, commonly marked by nausea and vomiting in the first trimester, posing risks for both mother and baby. This study evaluates the effects of auriculotherapy on nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of pregnancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A randomized clinical trial was conducted in two primary health care centers with 56 Brazilian pregnant women who reported nausea or vomiting in the first trimester. The participants were divided into an intervention group (auriculotherapy with seeds) and a placebo group (sham auriculotherapy). The inter
