Efficacy of an Adhesive Hydrocolloid Bandage on Wound Healing: Findings of a 28-Day, Single-Centre, Randomised, Controlled Study.

This single-centre, randomised, controlled study assessed the wound healing efficacy of adhesive bandages in eligible healthy adults (N = 36) aged 25-55 with Fitzpatrick skin types II and III using a model of laser-induced wounds. Here, we report data for wounds that were randomised to treatment with either a hydrocolloid bandage for multi-day use (BAND-AID Adhesive Bandage Hydroseal), standard of care (SoC) (BAND-AID Adhesive Bandage Tru-Stay Sheer) or an uncovered control. Primary endpoints included the time to complete healing and a composite wound healing score. Hydrocolloid bandage-treate

[The therapy of acute radiogenic epitheliolysis with a dressing of hydrocolloids and polymers (Biofilm). A report on clinical experience].

Acute skin lesions following radiotherapy are uncomfortable and unacceptable side effects. They are observed predominantly after high surface doses as in conventional roentgen or electron beam therapy. To accelerate the wound healing we tested a bandage consisting of hydrocolloids and polymers, which is permeable for gas and water. Handling, compatibility and effectiveness of this plaster were tested in this study. According to the RTOG scoring system 19 irradiated fields with grade II to IV lesions were treated. Densitometric measurements of verification films with and without Biofilm showed

Local treatment of venous leg ulcers.

At present the following guidelines for treatment of venous leg ulcers from our department are: Check the patients' general health--special attention to heart incompensation with oedema of the legs and the peripheral circulation. The most relevant laboratory tests are haemoglobin and urine-glucose. Routine bacterial cultivation is not necessary in non-diabetic patients as the result will generally not influence diagnosis, treatment or prognosis. Furthermore, treatment with topical antibiotics should be avoided. It is not only unnecessary, wasteful and sensitizing, but it also involves a risk o

Wound care-Part I: A practical approach to local wound care and dressing selection.

Dermatologists have expertise in diagnosing and managing many ulcerative conditions. However, dermatology training often lacks substantial teaching or hands-on experience in wound care. Proper wound management begins with accurately identifying the underlying cause of a wound, along with any patient-specific factors that may impede healing. These factors help guide the selection of appropriate wound care techniques and dressings. The main categories of dressings include films, foams, alginates, hydrogels, hydrocolloids, gelling fibers, and super-absorbents. For critically colonized wounds, or

Observation of the Therapeutic Effect of Hydrogel Combined with Alginate Dressings for a Patient with Grade 4 Acute Radiation Dermatitis: A Case Report.

In this case report, the authors summarize their experience of using hydrogel combined with alginate dressings in the wound care of a patient with grade 4 acute radiation dermatitis. With the combination of hydrogel and alginate dressings, the authors achieved autolytic debridement of the wound and created a moist healing environment to facilitate wound closure. Hydrogel helps the dressing adhere better to the wound bed, ensuring that it does not easily detach during the wound healing process. It also eliminates the need for traditional adhesive tapes for fixation, thus avoiding damage to the

Topical care in pemphigus wounds: A systematic review of the literature.

Pemphigus is a group of autoimmune blistering diseases. Given the ulcerative nature of the diseases, the full healing of ulcers and erosions might be challenging. The aim of this study was to determine various topical wound care options for pemphigus patients, the advantage of each alternative, and to compare their efficacy, safety, and feasibility. In accordance with PRISMA guideline, we performed a systematic search in PubMed/Medline, web of science, and Scopus databases for articles published from inception until February 2, 2022. Out of 703 initially retrieved articles, 11 full texts were

Optimal treatment of venous (stasis) ulcers in elderly patients.

In elderly patients, even those with a typical venous (stasis) ulcer, coexisting conditions like peripheral arterial insufficiency and diabetes are very common. Therefore, all elderly patients with leg ulcers should have a complete medical assessment. The mainstay of treatment for venous ulcers is compression therapy, exercise and leg elevation at rest. Long term treatment with double bandages (zinc paste bandages and elastic compression), changed once weekly, is the recommended standard treatment in the elderly. Hydrocolloid dressings are also suitable for long term treatment in clean ulcers,

[Characteristics and Clinical Application of Commonly Used Wound Dressings].

The pathological mechanism of wound healing is complicated and affected by multiple factors. Modern wound dressings are widely used in the clinical management of wound healing and have achieved good therapeutic effects. Clinically, wounds are often caused by different etiologies. However, there are few reviews focus on the selection of reasonable dressings for different types of wounds. This study mainly focuses on the characteristics of commonly used wound dressings and summarizes the characteristics of the most commonly used wound dressings in clinical practice and their effects. The advanta

Methods for sampling wound fluid from venous leg ulcers for molecular analyses: A scoping review.

Determining the precise role of molecular factors present in venous leg ulcer exudate will expedite the identification of biomarkers that can optimally guide treatment. However, there is now no standardized approach for collecting, processing and storing wound fluid samples for molecular analyses. This scoping review was conducted to integrate and summarize the multiple types of methods being used currently in studies of venous leg ulcers for collecting, processing and storing wound fluid prior to analysis. PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE and Scopus databases were searched for eligible studies between

TLC-NOSF dressings as a first-line local treatment of chronic wounds: a systematic review of clinical evidence.

OBJECTIVE: Several national and international guidelines recommend lipidocolloid technology with a nano-oligosaccharide factor (TLC-NOSF) dressings (UrgoStart dressing range, Laboratoires Urgo, France) for treating patients with chronic wounds. However, these dressings are still often reported as second-line options, potentially leading to loss of opportunity for patients and additional costs for payers. This review aimed to explore the reported wound healing and patient outcomes as well as the related costs when the dressings were used as first-line treatment in patients with different types

Fibrin cuff lysis in chronic venous ulcers treated with a hydrocolloid dressing.

BACKGROUND: Pericapillary fibrin cuffs (PFC) are a recognized part of the pathology of venous stasis ulcers. A hydrocolloid dressing capable of lysing wound surface fibrin was tested in venous ulcers for its capacity to lyse pericapillary fibrin below the wound surface. METHODS: Tissue biopsies from the rims of 19 venous ulcers were evaluated for thickness of shallow and deep dermal PFCs before and after treatment with DuoDERM covered by Unna's boot and a compression bandage (DD+UB; n = 9) versus the same treatment without the hydrocolloid dressing (UB; n = 10). Frozen sections of all biopsie

Development and preclinical evaluation of an Aceh kelulut honey-based hydrocolloid dressing for wound healing.

Honey has long been used in wound care because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, while hydrocolloid dressings provide a moist and protective environment that supports tissue repair. This study aimed to evaluate the macroscopic and microscopic effects of an Aceh kelulut honey-based hydrocolloid dressing on wound healing in mice. Twenty-seven healthy male mice (Mus musculus) were assigned to three groups: control treated with 0.9% NaCl, pure Aceh kelulut honey (KH), and Aceh kelulut honey-based hydrocolloid (KHHC). Two full-thickness excisional wounds, each 4 mm in diameter,

Conservative Management of Lip Avulsion with Hydrocolloid Dressings in Three Cases.

Lip avulsion is a common orofacial trauma that poses challenges due to its aesthetic and functional implications. This retrospective case series evaluated the outcomes of three patients with partial-thickness traumatic lip avulsion managed using different wound healing approaches. Two patients underwent conservative treatment (secondary intention healing), including daily wound cleansing and application of hydrocolloid dressings. The hydrocolloid dressings could maintain a moist wound environment that promoted granulation formation and epithelialization while reducing infection risk. Both cons

Evaluating the Irritant Factors of Silicone and Hydrocolloid Skin Contact Adhesives Using Trans-Epidermal Water Loss, Protein Stripping, Erythema, and Ease of Removal.

A composite silicone skin adhesive material was designed to improve its water vapor permeability to offer advantages to wearer comfort compared to existing skin adhesive dressings available (including perforated silicone and hydrocolloid products). The chemical and mechanical properties of this novel dressing were analyzed to show that it has a high creep compliance, offering anisotropic elasticity that is likely to place less stress on the skin. A participant study was carried out in which 31 participants wore a novel silicone skin adhesive (Sil2) and a hydrocolloid competitor and were monito
