Fractures of the anteroinferior glenoid rim, termed bony Bankart lesions, have been reported to occur in up to 22% of first time anterior shoulder dislocations. The primary goal of treatment is to create a stable glenohumeral joint and a good shoulder function. Options for therapeutic intervention are largely dependent on the chronicity of the lesion, the activity level of the patient and postreduction fracture characteristics, such as the size, location and number of fracture fragments. Non-operative treatment can be successful for small, acute fractures, which are anatomically reduced after

BACKGROUND: Accurate detection of glenoid labral tears remains challenging; however, it is essential for guiding treatment and return-to-play decisions in athletes. Magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA) improves diagnostic performance over noncontrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) but is invasive and more costly. Recent studies have shown that artificial intelligence (AI) models can accurately detect Bankart lesions on MRI and MRA, but whether AI assistance can improve clinician interpretation remains unknown.
PURPOSE: To evaluate whether AI assistance improves clinician sensitivity and di

The Bankart lesion is an essential finding of traumatic anterior shoulder instability. The purpose of this study was to clarify the reliability of diagnosis by ultrasonography (US) of the Bankart lesion when using an axillary approach. Six cadaveric shoulders were examined by US from the axilla. The shoulders were then dissected along the plane of the ultrasonic beam. The labrum at the 4-o'clock position of all 6 cadavers was present along the ultrasonic plane; there were no obstacles from the skin to the glenoid rim, and all cases had a normal labrum at the 4-o'clock position. Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association1995eng
This case report presents a traumatic dislocation after an arthroscopic Bankart repair in which the repair site was intact and failure occurred through a new bony interval. The new bony Bankart lesion was identified 3 years after the initial arthroscopic repair. This highlights the issue of whether a traumatic redislocation after a surgical repair for recurrent shoulder instability represents a failure of repair or a reinjury.

Arthroscopic transglenoid suture of Bankart lesions was performed in 31 patients from 1988 to 1992. The diagnosis in all patients was recurrent traumatic anterior luxation, and a Bankart lesion was found in all cases. Mean time for clinical follow-up was 43 months (ranging from 25 to 76 months). A telephone review of all cases was obtained two years later. Five patients experienced postoperative wound problems posteriorly, where the sutures were tied over the fascia of the infraspinatus. One transient suprascapular nerve palsy was seen. There was a recurrence of complete dislocation in eight p

BACKGROUND: The arthroscopic "bony Bankart bridge" (BBB) repair technique was recently shown to successfully restore shoulder stability at short-term follow-up, but longer-term outcomes have not yet been described.
PURPOSE: To report the outcomes at minimum 5-year follow-up after BBB repair for anterior shoulder instability with a bony Bankart lesion.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: Patients were included if they sustained a bony Bankart lesion, were treated with a BBB technique, and were at least 5 years postoperative. Patients were excluded if they underwent conc

» Bony Bankart lesions are fractures of the anteroinferior glenoid rim, commonly associated with a traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation, and are diagnosed through radiological imaging and physical examination. Young male athletes playing contact sports are at highest risk of these injuries. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial because, if left untreated, recurrent anterior shoulder instability and glenoid bone loss can occur. Both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options are available depending on the size of the lesion, with arthroscopic repair being the most common treatment method

Acute traumatic anterior shoulder dislocations are associated with high recurrence rates in young athletic individuals. Arthroscopically assisted stabilization of acute initial traumatic anterior dislocation was carried out in 11 young athletes. The average age was 20 years, with nine males and two females. The anterior acute Bankart lesion was surgically repaired using the technique described by Caspari/Morgan. There were no surgical complications. All patients were able to return to their sport without restriction. One patient had a transient episode of instability 8 months postoperatively a

A patient with recurrent dislocation of the hip is described. The initial injury had been a posterior dislocation without associated fracture of the acetabular wall, and the hip had not been immobilised or protected from weight-bearing during treatment. Exploration of the hip for recurrence revealed disruption of the posterosuperior acetabular labrum with formation of a pouch between the posterior acetabular wall and the short rotator muscles. We have found no previous report of this lesion, which resembles a Bankart lesion of the shoulder. Repair using a bone block is described.

Diagnostic cinearthrography was performed on 3368 patients with shoulder pain during the period of 1982 through 1992. Cinearthrography identified a Bankart lesion in 128 shoulders on which surgical stabilization was performed for recurrent anterior dislocation. The operative pathologic condition for each of these patients was correlated and analyzed with the measurements of the Bankart lesion identified on the cinearthrogram. A small Bankart lesion was seen in patients with anterior capsular elongation. A larger Bankart lesion was observed in patients who did not have anterior capsular elongat

This study investigated whether an anteroinferior capsulolabral lesion is sufficient to allow the humeral head to dislocate and whether a limited inferior approach for creating the lesions influenced the results compared with an all-arthroscopic approach. Four ligamentous zones of the glenohumeral capsule were sequentially detached from the glenoid neck and labrum in 20 cadaver shoulders through an inferior approach. Before and after each resection step, inferior stability was tested using a sulcus test and anterior stability using a drawer test and an apprehension maneuver. Dislocation was on

The Bankart repair was used to restore anterior stability to 50 patients (51 shoulders) with recurrent dislocation or subluxation of the shoulder. The patients had preoperative diagnostic testing to determine the presence and extent of a Bankart lesion. At surgery, the Bankart lesion was carefully observed for its location, and extent of involvement of associated structures. The intraoperative findings of the severity of the Bankart lesion were compared with the preoperative data. The glenoidal fossa was considered like a clock, and the location and severity of the Bankart lesion was expressed

BACKGROUND: There has been no study about treatment guidelines for arthroscopic repair according to the size of bony Bankart lesions of less than 25% of the glenoid width.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the results of arthroscopic repair for bony Bankart lesions managed with different repair techniques based on their size.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: Between March 2005 and February 2009, 44 of 52 consecutive patients with bony Bankart lesions with a size of less than 25% of the entire glenoid were managed with an arthroscopic approach. Of those patients, 34 (77%) were av

UNLABELLED: Operative treatment of anterior glenohumeral instability is challenging, particularly with the presence of an anterior glenoid rim fracture, also called an "osseous Bankart lesion." Successful reduction and fixation of the lesion has been shown to greatly reduce the risk of recurrent dislocations while achieving osseous union and normalization of glenoid anatomy1.
DESCRIPTION: The current surgical video article outlines a technique for an osseous Bankart repair in a patient with a displaced fracture as well as substantial pain and instability. First, the amount of bone loss is mea

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate early clinical effects of bioabsorbable suture anchors for the treatment of Bankart lesion.
METHODS: Total 23 patients with the Bankart lesion were treated with arthroscopic repair using bioabsorbable suture anchors from January 2010 to June 2017. There were 20 males and 3 females, with an average age of (23.4±3.9) years old (ranged, 19 to 34 years old). Fourteen patients had injuries on the right shoulder joint and 9 patients had the injuries on the left side. The mechanism of primary dislocation included 17 cases of training, 5 cases of sports injury and 1 case of fal

Bony Bankart lesions present considerable challenges in shoulder surgery, particularly when large. While smaller lesions can often be treated effectively using the single-row technique, larger lesions require more complex approaches. Several arthroscopic techniques have been developed to manage these lesions. Although the double-row technique is effective, it has the disadvantage of placing suture material on the articular surface. In contrast, the transosseous technique permits adequate compression and surface contact without involving the articular surface; however, it is technically demandi

BACKGROUND: Shoulder dislocations may lead to anterior glenoid rim fractures. An all-arthroscopic double-row repair, referred to as the bony Bankart bridge (BBB), has been proposed with superior biomechanical properties when compared to single-row repair techniques. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the minimum 10-year clinical and functional outcomes following BBB.
METHODS: All consecutive patients who underwent arthroscopic BBB for the treatment of shoulder instability with an associated bony Bankart lesion by a single surgeon between December 2007 and February 2013 were eligible

BACKGROUND: Although labrum lesions in patients with chronic anterior shoulder instability may not only involve detachment of the anteroinferior labrum but a lesion of the superior glenoid labrum as well, no studies have compared the clinical outcome between patients with a lesion of the anteroinferior labrum and patients with a combined lesion of the anterior and superior labrum after arthroscopic shoulder stabilization.
HYPOTHESIS: Arthroscopic repair of a combined lesion of the anterior and superior labrum may have inferior clinical outcome to repair of an anterior lesion only in patients
