Effect of Bifidobacterium animalis on mice infected with Strongyloides venezuelensis.

The administration of viable Bifidobacterium animalis was tested to induce resistance against Strongyloides venezuelensis infection in mice. Effects on parasite burden, worm length, egg output, and intestinal mucosal histology were evaluated. The oral administration of B. animalis, strain 04450B, starting 14 days before the inoculation of nematode larvae significantly decreased the worm burden and egg output. In probiotic treated animals, the percent reduction of adult worms in the intestine was of 33% and the reduction of egg production was of 21%, compared with those of the control group. Th

Safety and the probiotic potential of Bifidobacterium animalis CP-9.

Bifidobacterium animalis CP-9 was a commensal strain isolated from human breast milk. In this study, genetic and 90-day oral toxicity were assessed in rodents for its safety. Ames test as well as in vivo bone marrow micronucleus and spermatocyte chromosomal aberration were surveyed in mice. B. animalis CP-9 exhibited no mutagenic activity in the Ames test at the highest tested dosage (5000 µg/plate) with or without metabolic activation. No evidence of in vivo genetic toxicity was observed at the maximum tested dosage of 10 g/kg body weight (BW). Furthermore, there was no statistically signific

Bifidobacterium animalis RH exopolysaccharide bidirectionally modulates inflammatory bone metabolism disorders.

Inflammatory dysregulation of bone metabolism underlies a range of skeletal pathologies, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and periprosthetic loosening. Although probiotic metabolites demonstrate multifaceted nutritional benefits, the development of Bifidobacterium-derived extracellular polysaccharides remains limited. Consequently, we extracted extracellular polysaccharides from Bifidobacterium animalis RH (designated EPS, 21.3 kDa) and explored their therapeutic potential and mechanisms in inflammatory bone disorders. For in vitro models, we employed lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. animalis GY007 Mitigates High Fluoride Exposure-Induced Ileal Injury and Restores the Ileal Microbiota-Metabolome Imbalances.

Exposure to fluoride is strongly associated with impaired intestinal function. Probiotics are widely regarded as an effective strategy to maintain microbial homeostasis and to mitigate the progression of fluoride-induced intestinal injury. This study aimed to evaluate the measurable protective effects of the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. animalis (B. animalis subsp. animalis) GY007 in reversing high fluoride-induced ileal injury. The results showed that GY007 (1 × 109 CFU/mL, once/daily) attenuated intestinal barrier disruption and alleviated ileal mucosal abnormalities in m

Use of the Probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 in Oral Diseases.

The oral cavity is one of the environments on the human body with the highest concentrations of microorganisms that coexist harmoniously and maintain homeostasis related to oral health. Several local factors can shift the microbiome to a pathogenic state of dysbiosis. Existing treatments for infections caused by changes in the oral cavity aim to control biofilm dysbiosis and restore microbial balance. Studies have used probiotics as treatments for oral diseases, due to their ability to reduce the pathogenicity of the microbiota and immunoinflammatory changes. This review investigates the role

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis boosts neonatal immunity: unravelling systemic defences against Salmonella.

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis may be a useful probiotic intervention for regulating neonatal intestinal immune responses and counteracting Salmonella infection. However, recent research has focused on intestinal immunity, leaving uncertainties regarding the central, peripheral, and neural immune responses in neonates. Therefore, this study investigated the role and mechanisms of B. animalis subsp. lactis in the systemic immune responses of neonatal rats following Salmonella infection. Through extremely early pretreatment with B. animalis subsp. lactis (6 hours postnatal), the neonatal

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis modulates early-life immune response and gut metabolism.

BACKGROUND: The maturation of the immune system is critical during early life, as it involves the differentiation, maturation, and establishment of immune tolerance of immune cells. This process is influenced not only by genetic factors but also by environmental factors, particularly the symbiotic microbiota. Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (BB-12), originally found in dairy products, is widely used in infant formula and dietary supplements. However, its role and mechanisms in immune development during early life remain unclear. METHODS: Using GF mice as the experimental model, B. anim

Antibiotic Resistance in Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis and Bifidobacterium longum: Definition of Sensitivity/Resistance Profiles at the Species Level.

Antimicrobial resistance is a threat to probiotic microorganisms due to their potential role in harboring and transmitting resistance genes. This study focuses on two Bifidobacterium species (B. animalis subsp. lactis and B. longum) by analyzing 657 Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values extracted from research articles indexed in Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science, published since 2014, and considering 17 different antibiotics. MIC values were used for descriptive statistical analysis (boxplots and violin plots) to evaluate both inter- and intraspecies distributions. The results showed

Microencapsulated Quercetin and Bifidobacterium animalis Independently Preserve Jejunal Enteric Neurons During Colorectal Carcinogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, significantly disrupting enteric neurotransmission within the colon. While the effects of CRC on the enteric nervous system (ENS) of the colon are well documented, its impact on the small intestine remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the influence of colorectal carcinogenesis on the small intestine's ENS and evaluate the individual neuroprotective effects of microencapsulated quercetin and Bifidobacterium animalis. METHODS: Wistar rats were subjected to chemically induced colorectal carcinogenes

A metabolite-dependent mechanism by which Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis promotes Bacteroides colonization.

Prokaryote-prokaryote symbiotic relationships influence interactions within microbial communities, affecting colonization, survival, and organization. Unlike competition, consortium species facilitate growth via metabolite cross-feeding. This study explored interactions between two early human gut colonizers: partially aerotolerant Bifidobacterium spp. and strict anaerobic Bacteroides spp., using omics techniques. Promotion of Bacteroides spp. growth by Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis was demonstrated through co-culture experiments in anaerobic conditions. Metabolomic analysis revealed

Probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis consumption slows down orthodontic tooth movement in mice.

INTRODUCTION: Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when consumed in appropriate amount, can provide health benefits. Although many studies have shown positive results with the use of probiotics in bone loss control, as in periodontal disease, the effect of probiotics on a mechanical force-induced alveolar bone resorption is still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of the specific probiotic Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis on bone remodeling induced by orthodontic tooth movement. METHODS: For this study, thirty C57BL6/J male mice were used and divided into
