Exosomes (EXOs) help cells communicate by transporting proteins, lipids, and RNA. EXOs are being studied for diagnosis and treatment in oncology, regenerative medicine, and infectious diseases. EXOs' research is limited because isolating high-purity EXOs in sufficient quantities impairs their therapeutic value. Bioprinting, which uses 3D printing to produce complex living objects, opens new avenues for medical research. 3D bioprinting can overcome limitations in EXO research. Bioprinting-customized microenvironments can imitate the natural biological setting, increasing the production of EXOs

Aspiration-assisted bioprinting (AAB) is a versatile biofabrication technique that enables the precise and selective patterning of biologics, such as tissue spheroids and organoids, addressing limitations of conventional bioprinting techniques. AAB facilitates the fabrication of (1) tissues with physiologically relevant cell densities using spheroids and (2) advanced tissue models that replicate three-dimensional microenvironments essential for studying cellular responses, disease development and drug testing. Here we provide reliable and reproducible guidelines for the precise positioning of

Stem cells have become a revived biotechnology that is beginning to expand the field of regenerative medicine. Although stem cells are capable of regenerating tissues, current research trends tend to side on developing fully functional organs and other clinical uses including in situ stem cell repair through three-dimensional printing methods. Through several tests and techniques, it can be shown that most stem cell printing methods are possible and that most tests come out with high cell viability. Furthermore, the importance of bioprinting is to benefit the field of regenerative medicine, wh

Pathologic thrombosis kills more people than cancer and trauma combined; it is associated with significant disability and morbidity, and represents a major healthcare burden. Despite advancements in medical therapies and imaging, there is often incomplete resolution of the thrombus. The residual thrombus can undergo fibrotic changes over time through infiltration of fibroblasts from the surrounding tissues and eventually transform into a permanent clot often associated with post-thrombotic syndrome. In order to understand the importance of cellular interactions and the impact of potential ther

Engineering biomimetic tissues with dynamically evolving 3D architectures represents an important direction for next-generation tissue engineering, as it enables recapitulation of the continuous morphogenesis of native tissues during development and regeneration. Here, a self-actuating 4D cell-strand bioprinting platform is developed to engineer complex tissue architectures through autonomous cell contractile force (CCF)-driven morphing without requiring external stimuli. The platform integrates a mechanically compliant and self-softening base hydrogel with embedded high-density cell strands p

Bioprinting, as a groundbreaking technology, enables the fabrication of biomimetic tissues and organs with highly complex structures, multiple cell types, mechanical heterogeneity, and diverse functional gradients. With the growing demand for organ transplantation and the limited number of organ donors, bioprinting holds great promise for addressing the organ shortage by manufacturing completely functional organs. While the bioprinting of complete organs remains a distant goal, there has been considerable progress in the development of bioprinted transplantable tissues and organs for regenerat

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) results from an autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the islet of the endocrine pancreas. Although islet transplantation has been regarded as an ideal strategy for T1D, transplanted islets are rejected from host immune system. To immunologically protect them, islet encapsulation technology with biocompatible materials is emerged as an immuno-barrier. However, this technology has been limited for clinical trial such as hypoxia in the central core of islet bead, impurity of islet bead and retrievability from the body. Recently, 3D bioprinting

3D bioprinting of vascularized tissues integrates additive manufacturing and tissue engineering to fabricate high-resolution, three-dimensional constructs. A key aspect of this method is embedding cells within a bioink, which provides structural support while encouraging cellular interaction during printing and subsequent cultivation. Commonly used bioinks are composed of extracellular matrix (ECM)-derived materials, mimicking the native tissue environment. Here, we describe a 3D bioprinting approach utilizing a collagen-fibrin bioink, termed ECM mix. This bioink formulation provides the mecha

Incorporating genetically modifiable microbial biomass with polymeric hydrogel matrices offers a simple strategy for both bottom-up and top-down approaches in functional living hydrogel materials design. In this work, we designed a two-part living hydrogel, consisting of a non-living hydrogel matrix and engineered living biofilms. We used polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), gelatin, and agar to make a composite polymeric hydrogel matrix. Then we incorporated genetically engineered functional Escherichia coli (E. coli) biofilms containing cells and curli fibers into the hydrogel matrix. We investigated

Corneal blindness remains a major clinical challenge, yet donor grafts are scarce. Bioprinting has emerged in recent decades to potentially overcome donor shortage. In bioprinting, collagen is a common biomaterial. However, one alternative biomaterial, which has shown promising results in corneal tissue engineering, is keratin. Therefore, human hair keratin was investigated in this study as a bioink component for stroma bioprinting. Two keratin preparations, an aqueous extraction and an alkaline extraction, were incorporated into a methacrylated hyaluronic acid bioink and compared with a colla

Terminology is pivotal for facilitating clear communication and minimizing ambiguity, especially in specialized fields such as chemistry. In materials science, a subset of chemistry, the term "pore" is traditionally linked to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) nomenclature, which categorizes pores into "micro", "meso", and "macro" based on size. However, applying this terminology in closely-related areas, such as 3D bioprinting, often leads to confusion owing to the lack of consensus on specific definitions and classifications tailored to each field. This review arti

In recent years, due to the increase in diseases that require organ/tissue transplantation and the limited donor, on the other hand, patients have lost hope of recovery and organ transplantation. Regenerative medicine is one of the new sciences that promises a bright future for these patients by providing solutions to repair, improve function, and replace tissue. One of the technologies used in regenerative medicine is three-dimensional (3D) bioprinters. Bioprinting is a new strategy that is the basis for starting a global revolution in the field of medical sciences and has attracted much atte
