Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant genetic disorder involving branchial cleft and renal anomalies, hearing loss, and other otologic manifestations. We report a case of a family with three generations of branchial cleft anomalies and otologic anomalies with hearing loss. A review of the literature, classic clinical presentations, associated findings, and the differential diagnosis of BOR syndrome is presented. Due to BOR syndrome's variability of both penetrance and expression and a high incidence of renal the practicing otolaryngologist should consider BOR syndrome

Branchio-oto syndrome (BOS)/branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BORS) is a kind of autosomal dominant heterogeneous disorder. These diseases are mainly characterized by hearing impairment and abnormal phenotype of ears, accompanied by renal malformation and branchial cleft anomalies including cyst or fistula, with an incidence of 1/40 000 in human population. Otic anormalies are one of the most obvious clinical manifestations of BOS/BORS, including deformities of external, middle, inner ears and hearing loss with conductive, sensorineural or mix, ranging from mild to profound loss. Branchiootorenal (BOR) syndrome is a variable, autosomal-dominant disorder of the first and second embryonic branchial arches, kidneys, and urinary tract. We describe the phenotype in 45 individuals, highlighting differences and similarities reported in other studies. Characteristic temporal bone findings include cochlear hypoplasia (4/5 of normal size with only 2 turns), dilation of the vestibular aqueduct, bulbous internal auditory canals, deep posterior fossae, and acutely-angled promontories.

After a brief review of the dysgenetic abnormalities which may affect the ear, branchial arches and pouches and the kidneys, the authors summarise those syndromes associating abnormalities of the ear and kidney on the one hand, and secondly abnormalities of the ear and facial and cervical fistulae. However, they are specifically interested in the branchio-oto-renal syndrome, reporting 5 cases. The syndrome combines deafness (middle ear and inner ear), pre-auricular and cervical fistulae and renal abnormalities. They attempt to summarise the syndrome by combining these 5 cases with the 15 publi

Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by pathogenic variants in EYA1, SIX1, or SIX5, which affect the branchial arches, auditory system, and kidneys. Diagnosis integrates clinical criteria that require major criteria such as branchial anomalies, hearing loss, or preauricular pits, as supported by genetic testing. Gene-targeted testing confirms typical BOR syndrome phenotypes, whereas comprehensive genomic testing identifies atypical cases. Management is tailored to the individual phenotypes. Kidney anomalies, the most important prognostic factor, necess

Background: Branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BOR) and branchio-oto syndrome (BOS) are rare autosomal dominant disorders defined by varying combinations of branchial, otic, and renal anomalies. Here, we characterized the clinical features and genetic etiology of BOR/BOS in several Chinese families and then explored the genotypes and phenotypes of BOR/BOS-related genes, as well as the outcomes of auditory rehabilitation in different modalities. Materials and Methods: Probands and all affected family members underwent detailed clinical examinations. Their DNA was subjected to whole-exome sequencing t

Objective: To screen the causative genes of five families with branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BORS) or branchio-oto syndrome(BOS) and to analyze the phenotypic characteristics and clinical management strategies of patients. Methods: Five families with BORS/BOR from December 2018 to September 2021 were recruited, information of patients, including family history and medical history, was collected, and genealogies were drawn. The examinations concerning audiology, nephrology, and radiology were performed on the affected individuals. Peripheral blood was obtained for DNA extraction, then next-gener

Objective: To assess the clinical features and CT diagnostic characteristics of Branchio-Oto-Renal or Branchio-Oto Syndrome. Methods: The temporal CT findings and clinical features observations of 13 patients with Branchio-Oto-Renal Syndrome (BORS) or Branchio-Oto Syndrome(BOS) confirmed by genetic testing were retrospectively analyzed. There were 8 males and 5 females, aged from 1 to 39 years, with a median age of 9 years, in which 3 pairs (6 cases) were parent-child relationship. Results: All of 13 cases had hearing loss and preauricular fistula, 11 cases accompanied by 2nd branchial fistula

Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterised by branchial arch anomalies, otological and renal abnormalities. To the best of our knowledge, upper airway obstruction has not been hitherto reported in BOR. The authors report a 19-month-old girl with BOR syndrome with features of severe airway obstruction needing tracheostomy.

The branchio-oto-renal syndrome, first defined in 1976, is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by anomalies of the external, middle, and inner ear in association with preauricular sinuses, branchial cleft anomalies, and varying degrees of renal dysplasia, including aplasia. Less frequently expressed phenotypic abnormalities include lacrimal duct aplasia and the stigmata of renal dysgenesis known as Potter facies. Although the precise incidence of the disorder is unknown, it may be more common than is generally appreciated and appears to be distinct from other autosomal dominant otobra

Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) and the branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BOR) are both associated with malformations of the external ears; preauricular tags, pits, or sinuses; and conductive or mixed hearing loss. Other overlapping features have been described, including cervical appendages containing cartilage in HFM, and facial paresis in BOR; however, the significance of these findings has not been discussed by previous authors. The purpose of this paper is to describe four additional propositi with overlapping features of BOR and HFM. In two cases there is a positive family history of either first

Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome is an autosomal dominant, clinically heterogeneous disorder characterized by branchial arch anomalies, hearing impairment, and renal malformations. We report the case of a 10-year-old boy with BOR syndrome who presented with hyperkalemic hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis due to hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism. The child also had mental retardation and spastic diplegia which have hitherto not been described in BOR syndrome.

We report on a woman who was diagnosed with branchio-oto-renal (BOR) syndrome after 2 pregnancies complicated by oligohydramnios due to renal hypoplasia and agenesis. Both babies died neonatally of pulmonary hypoplasia. Histopathology of the temporal bones of the second child showed marked immaturity of the middle ear cleft, ossicles, facial nerve and canal, and cochlear nerve. Maternal renal ultrasound study was normal although intravenous pyelography indicated renal hypoplasia. The frequency of BOR syndrome among cases of recurrent fetal renal hypoplasia/dysplasia or agenesis is unknown, and

Branchio-oto-renal syndrome is an inborn disease of autosomal dominant transmission and variable expression. The syndrome associates ear pits, branchial cleft fistulas or cysts, deafness and renal anomalies heavily compromising prognosis. We report four adults (2 males, 2 females) in three different families with branchio-oto-renal syndrome. All 4 probands were seen for renal failure, with hematuria in 2 and proteinuria in the 2 others. Among the 62 family members examined 19 had at least one sign of branchio-oto-renal syndrome. Four pregnancies were followed during the course of the study, on

Three cases: two adults and one child, with histologically confirmed branchio-oto-renal syndrome showed prominent glomerular lesions. Typically there was segmental and focal hyalinization associated with dense deposits along the basement membrane and in the mesangium. Variable deposits of immunoglobulins IgG, IgM, and IgA as well as C3 were present. The branchio-oto-renal syndrome appears to be a familial nephropathy which may lead to renal failure.

Branchio-oto-renal syndrome (BOR) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder. The features include branchial cysts, hearing loss, ear malformation, preauricular pits, retrognathia, congenital heart disease, and renal abnormalities. However, anesthetic management of these patients has seldom been reported. We report a case in which general anesthesia was performed for dental treatment in a patient with BOR. Airway management, renal function, and hemodynamic changes can be of critical concern during anesthetic management. A 13-year-old girl diagnosed with BOR had severe right hearing loss, right exte
