STUDY DESIGN: Fourteen cadaveri specimens were sectioned to analyze the internal architecture of the human calcaneus. We described the arrangement and orientation of trabecular patterns within the calcaneus and made multiple measurements of its cortical thickness.

Fractures of the calcaneus generally occur in the setting of high-energy trauma, resulting in complex, three-dimensionally oriented fracture patterns. The anatomy of the calcaneus is complex with multiple processes and grooves for support of related bony and soft tissue structures. With respect to imaging, the calcaneus and its articulations are a diagnostic challenge to radiologists and clinicians. The authors present the results of another investigation of a group of casualties with fractures of the calcaneum treated by open reposition and stabilization with a splint and screws in 1994 to 1996, followed up after an interval of 57-74 months after the injury, on average after 66 months. UNLABELLED: Fibrous dysplasia in the calcaneus is extremely rare; the most common locations of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of extremity bones being the proximal femoral shaft, tibia, humerus, and radius. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Intraosseous lipoma of the calcaneus is thought to be a rare tumour. As most of the articles have been single case reports, we performed a meta-analysis to evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

A total of 12 patients with chronic traumatologic and hematogenic osteomyelitis of calcaneus were subjected to radical removal of the pathological focus, followed by cutaneo-dermofascial plasty of the residual cavity.
