[Progress on whole genome sequencing in woody plants].

In recent years, the number of sequencing data of plant whole genome have been increasing rapidly and the whole genome sequencing has been also performed widely in woody plants. However, there are a set of obstacles in investigating the whole genome sequencing in woody plants, which include larger genome, complex genome structure, limitations of assembly, annotation, functional analysis, and restriction of the funds for scientific research. Therefore, to promote the efficiency of the whole genome sequencing in woody plants, the development and defect of this field should be analyzed. The three

[Anaphylaxis secondary to prick-to-prick tests to foods and its risk factors].

The diagnosis of food allergy requires a proper anamnesis and diagnostic testing with skin prick tests with fresh foods and/or standardized allergen, or specific IgE tests. The risk of systemic reactions is of 15-23 per 100,000 skin tests performed by prick method, specifically anaphylaxis at 0.02%. This paper reports the case of four patients, who while performing prick to prick test with fresh food presented anaphylactic reaction. Implicated foods were fruits of the Rosaceae, Anacardiaceae and Caricaceae families. The severity of anaphylaxis was: two patients with grade 4, one patient grade

Comparison of functional properties of unripe papaya fruits of different sexes.

Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is a herbaceous plant belonging to the family Caricaceae in the order Brassicales. The shape of papaya fruit was linked to sex, and the fruit of female plants is round, whereas that of hermaphrodites is pyriform. Although fruit shape preferences vary by region, differences in their functionalities have not been investigated. Since unripe fruit, also called green papaya, is known for its nutritional and therapeutic benefits, we performed a metabolome analysis of unripe papaya using liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole/time of flight mass spectrometry. We first

Lupane triterpenes isolated from Vasconcellea chilensis (wild papaya) inhibit colorectal cancer cell growth by targeting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Vasconcellea chilensis Planch. ex A. DC., an endemic Chilean wild relative of mountain papaya (V. pubescens) adapted to extreme coastal environments, is largely unexplored for fruit phytochemistry. The ethanol extract yielded six 27-O-caffeoyl lupane triterpenoids (1-6), including two novel C-28 methyl esters, vasconcellates A and B (5, 6), and one known lignan (7). This is the first report of caffeoyl lupanes in the Caricaceae family. Compounds 1-7 were evaluated for inhibition of the Wingless/Integrated (Wnt)/β-catenin signaling pathway in a colorectal cancer model. Compound 4 (27-O-E-caffeo

Wound-healing activity of a proteolytic fraction from Carica candamarcensis on experimentally induced burn.

Carica candamarcensis is a species from the Caricaceae family whose immature fruit contains latex with large amounts of cysteine proteinases. In prior studies, we isolated two of these enzymes displaying mitogenic activity when incubated with L929 fibroblastic cells. One of the fractions containing these enzymes (P1G10) was shown to enhance wound healing of skin and to accelerate healing of chemically induced gastric ulcer. In this study we evaluate the effect of P1G10 on heat-induced, third-degree burn using a rodent model. The results show that 0.1% P1G10 accelerates epithelisation while the

The gastric ulcer protective and healing role of cysteine proteinases from Carica candamarcensis.

Latex from Caricaceae contains proteolytic enzymes localized in the fruit, which are used ethnopharmacologically to treat digestive disorders. Some of these proteins display proliferative properties when probed with mammalian cells, suggesting a role in the reconstruction of wounded tissue. We tested the efficacy of a proteolytic fraction derived from Carica candamarcensis, designated as P1G10 in experimental rodent models, to protect and heal chemically induced gastric ulcers. The protective effect of oral administration of P1G10 fraction was analyzed in indomethacin-treated Wistar animals. T

Cysteine Proteases from V. cundinamarcensis (C. candamarcensis) Inhibit Melanoma Metastasis and Modulate Expression of Proteins Related to Proliferation, Migration and Differentiation.

Previous studies showed that P1G10, a proteolytic fraction from Vasconcellea cundinamarcensis latex, reduced the tumor mass in animals bearing melanoma, increased in vitro DNA fragmentation and decreased cell adhesion. Here, we present some molecular and cellular events related to the antimetastatic effect induced by the CMS-2 fraction derived from P1G10 in metastatic melanoma B16-F10 and melanocyte Melan-a. Using difference gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, we identified four proteins overexpressed in tumor cells, all of them related to proliferation, survival, migration and cell inv

Fruit Preference, Parasitism, and Offspring Fitness of Fopius arisanus (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) Exposed to Bactrocera dorsalis' (Diptera: Tephritidae) Infested Fruit Species.

Fopius arisanus (Sonan) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a koinobiont solitary parasitoid of various fruit flies, particularly those in the genus Bactrocera. Researchers introduced F. arisanus into Africa for the biological control of Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae), a pest of a wide range of fruit trees and vegetables. However, the suitability of host fruit species as egg-laying substrates for parasitoid development remains poorly investigated in tropical Africa. The present study examines the preference and performance of F. arisanus on B. dorsalis reared on eleven fruit spec
