[History of trichinellosis in the history of the catalog of the French National Library].

The Open Line public access catalogue of the French National Library was consulted for the following key-words: trichine, trichinose, Trichina, trichinellose. Around 50 monographs in French were published during three periods: 1860-1869, 1880-1889 and 1970-1979. The 1970-1979 wave was linked with the emergence in Paris and its region of an outbreak related to horse-meat consumption. The 1880-1889 wave is explained by an economical war between Europe and the United States of America. The 1860-1870 wave occurred when the parasite cycle and the human disease were identified in Germany by Virchow

Brandon/Hill selected list of print books and journals for the small medical library.

After thirty-six years of biennial updates, the authors take great pride in being able to publish the nineteenth version (2001) of the "Brandon/Hill Selected List of Print Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library." This list of 630 books and 143 journals is intended as a selection guide for health sciences libraries or similar facilities. It can also function as a core collection for a library consortium. Books and journals are categorized by subject; the book list is followed by an author/editor index, and the subject list of journals, by an alphabetical title listing. Due to continui

Chemography: Searching for Hidden Treasures.

The days when medicinal chemistry was limited to a few series of compounds of therapeutic interest are long gone. Nowadays, no human may succeed to acquire a complete overview of more than a billion existing or feasible compounds within which the potential "blockbuster drugs" are well hidden and yet only a few mouse clicks away. To reach these "hidden treasures", we adapted the generative topographic mapping method to enable efficient navigation through the chemical space, from a global overview to a structural pattern detection, covering, for the first time, the complete ZINC library of purch

Systematic identification of secondary bile acid production genes in global microbiome.

UNLABELLED: Microbial metabolism of bile acids (BAs) is crucial for maintaining homeostasis in vertebrate hosts and environments. Although certain organisms involved in bile acid metabolism have been identified, a global, comprehensive elucidation of the microbes, metabolic enzymes, and bile acid remains incomplete. To bridge this gap, we employed hidden Markov models to systematically search in a large-scale and high-quality search library comprising 28,813 RefSeq multi-kingdom microbial complete genomes, enabling us to construct a secondary bile acid production gene catalog. This catalog gre

Empowering Shotgun Mass Spectrometry with 2DE: A HepG2 Study.

One of the major goals of the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP) is to catalog and annotate a myriad of heterogeneous proteoforms, produced by ca. 20 thousand genes. To achieve a detailed and personalized understanding into proteomes, we suggest using a customized RNA-seq library of potential proteoforms, which includes aberrant variants specific to certain biological samples. Two-dimensional electrophoresis coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography allowed us to downgrade the difficulty of biological mixing following shotgun mass spectrometry. To benchmark the propose

Morphological and functional anatomy of the trigeminal triangular plexus as an anatomical entity: a systematic review.

PURPOSE: The sensory trigeminal nerve in the trigeminal cave of Meckel-which is an individualized lodge-is classically segmented into two parts: the trigeminal ganglion (TG) and the triangular plexus (TP). The TP has been defined as the portion of the trigeminal nerve from the posterior margin of the TG to the path over the upper ridge of the petrous bone. Due to its relatively unrecognized status, its morphological and functional anatomy has been reviewed by the authors through a PRISMA systematic review of the literature. METHODS: The authors have carried out a systematic review of the TP a

Yeast surface display meets immunotherapy: unlocking the potential of T cells.

BACKGROUND AIMS: While T-cell receptors (TCRs) hold immense therapeutic potential, their clinical translation is bottlenecked by the scarcity of high-affinity, specific clones and the instability of recombinant formats. Existing display technologies fall short: phage display often fails to produce properly folded TCRs, and mammalian display is low-throughput. This review is the first to comprehensively synthesize how yeast surface display (YSD) is uniquely positioned to overcome these hurdles and build a new pipeline for TCR based drug discovery. METHODS: We articulate how YSD's eukaryotic ma

Customizable de novo design strategies for DOCK: Application to HIVgp41 and other therapeutic targets.

De novo design can be used to explore vast areas of chemical space in computational lead discovery. As a complement to virtual screening, from-scratch construction of molecules is not limited to compounds in pre-existing vendor catalogs. Here, we present an iterative fragment growth method, integrated into the program DOCK, in which new molecules are built using rules for allowable connections based on known molecules. The method leverages DOCK's advanced scoring and pruning approaches and users can define very specific criteria in terms of properties or features to customize growth toward a p

Bone marrow stem cell protection from chemotherapy by low--molecular-weight compounds.

The stem cells of the bone marrow have the capacity for both self-renewal and derivation of all the blood cell lineages. Consequently, toxicity to these cells can result in neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, or aplastic anemia. Many anticancer drugs adversely affect the bone marrow, and neutropenia is a common limiting factor in dose escalation. In this review, we discuss agents that appear to have potential as bone marrow sparing agents. Computerized catalogs of the National Library of Medicine and Medline were searched for reports on low-molecular-weight compounds

Geographical variations of snake venoms of the same species are well-known. Exploring the components of venom from each region will give insights in its distinctive toxicities. Venom gland cDNA library of Russell's viper (RV) from Myanmar (Daboia russelii siamensis) was constructed to create a catalog of expressed sequences tags (ESTs) and to compare with sequences from RV of other countries. The cDNA library of venom gland was generated by using CloneMiner™ II cDNA Library Construction Kit. Clones were subjected to Sanger sequencing and analyses by bioinformatics tools. Innovative technologies and future perspectives in tumor microbiomics.

Microorganisms within the tumor microenvironment represent an important but still underexplored dimension of cancer biology, influencing genomic stability, immune responses, metabolism, and therapeutic efficacy. Although recent findings underscore the significance of the tumor microbiome, distinguishing causal "drivers" from non-functional "passengers" remains a major challenge, particularly in the context of extremely low microbial biomass and high contamination risk. Advances in next-generation sequencing, single-cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics are now transforming the field, enab

The use of music in nursing care for psychological distress reduction in cancer patients: A scoping review protocol.

Psychological distress in cancer patients is a frequent and complex condition that significantly compromises quality of life, from diagnosis to palliative care. In this context, the use of music emerges as a promising, safe, and low-cost complementary practice capable of alleviating symptoms such as emotional distress. However, there are still gaps in the literature regarding the types, contexts, and specific effects of musical interventions in cancer patients. Thus, this protocol proposes a scoping review to map the available scientific evidence on the use of music as an intervention for the

A Review of the Ethnobotany, Biological Activity, and Phytochemistry of the Plants in the Gundelia Genus.

A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) catalog, and Google Scholar from January 1980 up until October 2023 on plants in the Gundelia genus. Gundelia L. (Asteraceae) has been treated as a monospecific genus with Gundelia tournefortii L. (1753: 814) in most recent floras with wide variation in corolla color, but nowadays, the genus consists of 17 species. The unripe inflorescences of these species, especially G. tournefortii L., are consumed in many ways. 'Akkoub' or 'akko' in Arabic, "Kangar" in

Learning About Pain and Illness: Physical Symptoms in German Children's Picture Books.

Although picture books are among the most common early-childhood media for communicating information about pain and illness, little is known about how physical symptoms and responses to them are portrayed in contemporary picture books. This study examined physical symptoms and responses in contemporary German picture books. Forty-nine books were identified through systematic searches of two public library catalogs and analyzed using structured content analysis, with caregiver responses classified using the Adults' Responses to Children's Symptoms framework (ARCS). Across books, symptoms were p

Comprehensive identification and co-expression analysis of long non-coding RNAs across eight timepoints of Schistosoma mansoni life cycle.

BACKGROUND: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are important regulatory molecules that can be considered potential biomarkers for schistosomiasis. However, the identification and characterisation of these molecules in such complex organism as Schistosoma mansoni, remains very challenging. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to identify novel lncRNAs in S. mansoni using RNA-seq libraries representative of six developmental stages (eggs, miracidia, sporocysts, cercariae, schistosomula, and juveniles). METHODS: A pipeline for lncRNAs identification was defined and applied to 41 RNA-seq libraries of eggs,

Prediction of unidentified human genes on the basis of sequence similarity to novel cDNAs from cynomolgus monkey brain.

BACKGROUND: The complete assignment of the protein-coding regions of the human genome is a major challenge for genome biology today. We have already isolated many hitherto unknown full-length cDNAs as orthologs of unidentified human genes from cDNA libraries of the cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) brain (parietal lobe and cerebellum). In this study, we used cDNA libraries of three other parts of the brain (frontal lobe, temporal lobe and medulla oblongata) to isolate novel full-length cDNAs. RESULTS: The entire sequences of novel cDNAs of the cynomolgus monkey were determined, and the
