Mechanism of Caulophyllum robustum Maxim against rheumatoid arthritis using LncRNA-mRNA chip analysis.

BACKGROUND: Caulophyllum robustum Maxim (CRM) is a medicinal compound of the Northeast and is commonly used in China for the treatment of rheumatic pain and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A preliminary study found that CRM has good anti-inflammatory, analgesic and immunosuppressive effects. However, the specific links and targets for its function remain unclear. Our study aimed to provide a mechanism for the action of Caulophyllum robustum Maxim extraction (CRME) against RA and to establish a method for studying disease treatment using Chinese medicine. METHODS: The 3-(4, 5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-

Caulophyllum robustum Maxim in the management of rheumatoid arthritis: a comprehensive review of ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacological mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disorder in which persistent synovitis drives progressive joint damage, often leading to functional limitation and a reduced quality of life. Caulophyllum robustum Maxim. (C. robustum) has long been used in traditional medicine to manage RA. Although increasing experimental evidence has demonstrated its therapeutic potential, relevant studies remain fragmented across various fields. PURPOSE: This review aims to systematically integrate current knowledge on the ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacokinetics, anti-RA pharmacolo

Randomised Controlled Trial on Prophylaxis of Mastitis-Metritis-Agalactia Syndrome in Swine using Caulophyllum Logoplex and Lachesis Logoplex.

BACKGROUND: Mastitis-metritis-agalactia (MMA) syndrome occurs in the first days post-partum and causes piglet losses mainly due to malnutrition. One possibility for prophylaxis of MMA is via homeopathy. In this veterinary study, the effectiveness of a prophylactic administration of homeopathic remedies for the prevention of the occurrence of MMA in swine was evaluated. METHODS: In a randomised and blinded study, 60 sows were examined. Sows were randomly distributed in two groups: the experimental group (CL/LL) received a prophylactic administration of the complex homeopathic remedies Caulophy

Non-targeted chemical analysis of consumer botanical products labeled as blue cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), or yohimbe bark (Pausinystalia yohimbe) by NMR and MS.

Consumers have unprecedented access to botanical dietary supplements through online retailers, making it difficult to ensure product quality and authenticity. Therefore, methods to survey and compare chemical compositions across botanical products are needed. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and non-targeted mass spectrometry (MS) were used to chemically analyze commercial products labeled as containing one of three botanicals: blue cohosh, goldenseal, and yohimbe bark. Aqueous and organic phase extracts were prepared and analyzed in tandem with NMR followed by MS. We processed th

Heart Toxicity Related to Herbs and Dietary Supplements: Online Table of Case Reports. Part 4 of 5.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this review was to create an online research summary table of heart toxicity case reports related to dietary supplements (DS; includes herbs). METHODS: Documented PubMed case reports of DS appearing to contribute to heart-related problems were used to create a "Toxic Table" that summarized the research (1966 to April, 2016, and cross-referencing). Keywords included "herb," "dietary supplement," and cardiac terms. Case reports were excluded if they were herb combinations (some exceptions), Chinese herb mixtures, teas of mixed herb contents, mushrooms, poisonous plant

Tocotrienol-Dominated Berberidaceae Species' Seed Tocochromanols: Screening via Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction in Ethanol.

Inspired by the lack of wide-scale family level screenings, the profile of tocochromanols in Berberidaceae family species belonging to the Berberis, Mahonia, Caulophyllum, Jeffersonia and Podophyllum genera was studied. Seeds were acquired from botanical gardens around the world and tocopherol and tocotrienol content was tested using ultrasound-assisted extraction in ethanol (UAEE) and compared to saponification protocol and analyzed by an RP-HPLC-FLD system. The UAEE protocol produced 93% average tocochromanol recovery compared to the saponification protocol. All investigated samples were toc

A generic strategy based on gas phase decomposition of protonated and ammoninted precursors producing predictable MRM-MS ion pairs and collision energies for direct analysis of plant triterpene glycosides.

Optimization of multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry (MRM-MS) parameters of triterpene glycosides (TGs) using traditional infusion methods remains to be labor-intensive. However, it was found that mild gas phase decompositions of protonated and ammoninted precursors (DPAP) of TGs could produce a series of abundant dehydrated product ions of aglycones ([A+H-nH2O]+ (n = 0, 1, 2, 3…)) with high efficiency and stability. Based on these considerations and findings, an innovative ESI+-MRM-DPAP-MS strategy was devised on a QTRAP 4000 instrument allowing for rapid the qualitative and quantit

Approach to menopausal symptoms in women with breast cancer.

Hot flashes represent one of the most bothersome complaints in breast cancer survivors. In the last two decades, studies investigated several agents and natural compounds to treat these symptoms. Hormones such as estrogens and progestins remain the most beneficial treatment. However, many physicians and patients are reluctant to use these therapies because of the controversy regarding the hormonal effects on tumor growth and progression. Unfortunately, most natural and nonconventional remedies that have been scientifically investigated appear disappointing. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibi

Planned early birth versus expectant management (waiting) for prelabour rupture of membranes at term (37 weeks or more).

BACKGROUND: Prelabour rupture of membranes at term is managed expectantly or by elective birth, but it is not clear if waiting for birth to occur spontaneously is better than intervening. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of planned early birth versus expectant management for women with term prelabour rupture of membranes on fetal, infant and maternal wellbeing. SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group Trials Register (November 2004), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (The Cochrane Library, Issue 4, 2004), MEDLINE (1966 to November 2004) and E

Planned early birth versus expectant management (waiting) for prelabour rupture of membranes at term (37 weeks or more).

BACKGROUND: Prelabour rupture of membranes (PROM) at term is managed expectantly or by planned early birth. It is not clear if waiting for birth to occur spontaneously is better than intervening, e.g. by inducing labour. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this review is to assess the effects of planned early birth (immediate intervention or intervention within 24 hours) when compared with expectant management (no planned intervention within 24 hours) for women with term PROM on maternal, fetal and neonatal outcomes. SEARCH METHODS: We searched Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth's Trials Register (9
