Expression of CAVEOLIN 1 in uterine mesenchymal tumors: No relationship between malignancy and CAVEOLIN 1 expression.

Although most smooth muscle neoplasms detected in the human uterus are benign, uterine leiomyosarcoma (Ut-LMS) is extremely malignant with high rates of recurrence and metastasis. CAVEOLIN 1 (CAV1) levels in the epithelial cells of some carcinomas have been reported to increase during tumor progression. We herein evaluated the relationship between CAV1 expression and the pathological features of patients diagnosed with uterine mesenchymal tumors at several clinical facilities. No clinical link was observed between CAV1 expression and the malignancy of human uterine mesenchymal tumors. CAV1 exp

Involvement of caveolin-1 in skin diseases.

The skin is the outermost layer and largest organ in the human body. Since the skin interfaces with the environment, it has a variety of roles, including providing a protective barrier against external factors, regulating body temperature, and retaining water in the body. It is also involved in the immune system, interacting with immune cells residing in the dermis. Caveolin-1 (CAV-1) is essential for caveolae formation and has multiple functions including endocytosis, lipid homeostasis, and signal transduction. CAV-1 is known to interact with a variety of signaling molecules and receptors and

Revolutionizing Autoimmune Research: The Role of Caveolin-1.

INTRODUCTION: Caveolins (Cav) include Cav-1, Cav-2, and Cav-3, with Cav-1 being the most studied due to its prominent role as a major component of plasma membrane caveolae. Cav-1 is involved in a wide range of cellular functions and plays a key role in regulating signaling pathways related to immune responses and inflammation. Recently, research on Cav-1 in autoimmune diseases (AIDs) has garnered significant interest. METHODS: This paper provides an overview of the research on Cav-1's involvement in AIDs, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, anti-neu

Caveolin-1-Related Intervention for Fibrotic Lung Diseases.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive and fatal interstitial lung disease (ILD) for which there are no effective treatments. Lung transplantation is the only viable option for patients with end-stage PF but is only available to a minority of patients. Lung lesions in ILDs, including IPF, are characterized by alveolar epithelial cell (AEC) senescence and apoptosis and accumulation of activated myofibroblasts and/or fibrotic lung (fL) fibroblasts (fLfs). These composite populations of fLfs show a high rate of basal proliferation, resist apoptosis and senescence, and have increased

Interplay Between Statins, Cav1 (Caveolin-1), and Aldosterone.

Statin use is associated with lower aldosterone levels. We hypothesized that caveolin-1 may be important for the uptake of statins into the adrenal gland and would affect statin's aldosterone-lowering effects. The aim of this study was to test whether the caveolin-1 risk allele (rs926198) would affect aldosterone levels associated with statin use. The Hypertensive Pathotype database includes healthy and hypertensive individuals who have undergone assessment of adrenal hormones. Individuals were studied off antihypertensive medications but were maintained on statins if prescribed by their perso

Caveolin-1, a novel player in cognitive decline.

Cognitive decline (CD), which related to vascular dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and diabetes mellitus, is a growing health concern that has a great impact on the patients' quality of life. Although extensive efforts, the mechanisms of CD are still far from being clarified, not to mention the effective treatment and prevention strategies. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1), a trans-membrane protein, is a major component of the caveolae structure and scaffolding proteins. Recently, ample evidence depicts a strong correlation between Cav-1

Membrane remodeling by the collective action of caveolin-1.

Caveolin-1 proteins scaffold 50-100 nm large invaginations in the plasma membrane to mediate critical cellular processes. As revealed recently by cryo-electron microscopy, several caveolin-1 protomers can fold into a disk-like structure that embeds in the cytoplasmic leaflet. This 8S complex represents a basal component to drive membrane curvature via higher-order interactions. The biophysical mechanisms behind the membrane remodeling, however, are elusive. To address this shortcoming, we develop a bottom-up coarse-grained model to overcome the substantial computational limitations for this la

Caveolin-1 as a possible target in the treatment for acne.

Expression of caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is an important pathophysiological factor in acne. Cav-1 strongly interacts with such well-recognized etiopathogenic factors such as hyperseborrhea, follicular hyperkeratinization and pathogenicity of Cutibacterium acnes. Cav-1 is a strong negative regulator of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) expression. It acts as a critical determinant of autophagy, which is significantly induced in acne lesions through C. acnes and by absorption of fatty acids. Cav-1 also demonstrates different correlations with the development of innate immunity. We propose that nor

Loss of caveolin-1 in bronchiolization in lung fibrosis.

Bronchiolization is a key process in fibrosing lung in which the proliferative status of bronchiolar epithelium changes, leading to abnormal epithelial morphology. Within the context that caveolin-1 acts to suppress epithelial proliferation, we postulated that stimulating epithelial injury would lead to caveolin-1 downregulation and encourage proliferation. The present study evaluates the expression of caveolin-1, especially in bronchiolization, in C57BL/6J mice with bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis and in various types of re-epithelialization in human interstitial pneumonias (IPs). Cav-1 (Caveolin-1) and Arterial Remodeling in Adult Moyamoya Disease.

Background and Purpose- Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a unique cerebrovascular occlusive disease characterized by progressive stenosis and negative remodeling of the distal internal carotid artery (ICA). We hypothesized that cav-1 (caveolin-1)-a protein that controls the regulation of endothelial vesicular trafficking and signal transduction-is associated with negative remodeling in MMD. Methods- We prospectively recruited 77 consecutive patients with MMD diagnosed via conventional angiography. Seventeen patients with intracranial atherosclerotic stroke and no RNF213 mutation served as controls. T

High intraluminal pressure promotes vascular inflammation via caveolin-1.

The aetiology and progression of hypertension involves various endogenous systems, such as the renin angiotensin system, the sympathetic nervous system, and endothelial dysfunction. Recent data suggest that vascular inflammation may also play a key role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. This study sought to determine whether high intraluminal pressure results in vascular inflammation. Leukocyte adhesion was assessed in rat carotid arteries exposed to 1 h of high intraluminal pressure. The effect of intraluminal pressure on signaling mechanisms including reactive oxygen species production (R

Caveolin-1 associated adenovirus entry into human corneal cells.

The cellular entry of viruses represents a critical area of study, not only for viral tropism, but also because viral entry dictates the nature of the immune response elicited upon infection. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC), caused by viruses within human adenovirus species D (HAdV-D), is a severe, ocular surface infection associated with corneal inflammation. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis has previously been shown to play a critical role in entry of other HAdV species into many host cell types. However, HAdV-D endocytosis into corneal cells has not been extensively studied. Herein, we sho

Overexpression of caveolin-1 in adult T-cell leukemia.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Caveolin-1 is implicated in the regulation of signal pathways. Adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) is a T-cell malignancy causatively associated with human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1). To determine the role of caveolin-1 in leukemogenesis, we examined caveolin-1 expression levels in HTLV-1-infected T-cell lines and ATL cells. These cells expressed high levels of caveolin-1 compared with uninfected T-cell lines and normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Caveolin-1-positive ATL cells were detected in ATL lymph nodes and skin lesions, and caveolin-1 was also detected in the plasma o

Caveolin-1-dependent apoptosis induced by fibrin degradation products.

In mice lacking the blood coagulation regulator thrombomodulin, fibrinolytic degradation products (FDP) of fibrin induce apoptotic cell death of a specialized cell type in the placenta, polyploid trophoblast giant cells. Here, we document that this bioactivity of FDP is conserved in human FDP, is not limited to trophoblast cells, and is associated with an Aalpha-chain segment of fibrin fragment E (FnE). The majority of proapoptotic activity is arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-independent and requires caveolin-1-dependent cellular internalization of FnE. Internalization through caveoli is m

Intracellular retention of caveolin 1 in presenilin-deficient cells.

Mutations in genes encoding presenilins (PS1 and PS2) are responsible for the majority of early onset familial Alzheimer's disease. PS, a critical component of gamma-secretase, is responsible for the intramembranous cleavage of amyloid precursor protein and Notch. Other physiological functions have been assigned to PS without any clear identification of the mechanisms underlying these multiple biological roles. The early embryonic lethality of PS1 and PS2 double knock-out (PS1/2 null) mice prevents the evaluation of physiological roles of PS. To investigate new functions for presenilins, we pe

Caveolin-1 Regulates CCL5 and PPARγ Expression in Nthy-ori 3-1 Cells: Possible Involvement of Caveolin-1 and CCL5 in the Pathogenesis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

BACKGROUND: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the thyroid parenchyma, which ultimately leads to tissue destruction and loss of function. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is an essential structural constituent of lipid rafts in the plasma membrane of cells and is reported to be significantly reduced in thyrocytes from HT patients. However, the mechanism of Cav-1 involvement in HT pathogenesis is still largely unclear. METHODS: Cav-1 expression in thyroid tissues from HT patients and euthyroid nodular goiter tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry staining. Cav

Prostaglandin E2 Exposure Disrupts E-Cadherin/Caveolin-1-Mediated Tumor Suppression to Favor Caveolin-1-Enhanced Migration, Invasion, and Metastasis in Melanoma Models.

Caveolin-1 (CAV1) is a membrane-bound protein that suppresses tumor development yet also promotes metastasis. E-cadherin is important in CAV1-dependent tumor suppression and prevents CAV1-enhanced lung metastasis. Here, we used murine B16F10 and human A375 melanoma cells with low levels of endogenous CAV1 and E-cadherin to unravel how co-expression of E-cadherin modulates CAV1 function in vitro and in vivo in WT C57BL/6 or Rag-/- immunodeficient mice and how a pro-inflammatory environment generated by treating cells with prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) alters CAV1 function in the presence of E-cadheri
