Chamaemelum nobile L. (Asteraceae), commonly known as Roman chamomile, is a perennial herb with branched rhizomes and multiple leafy stems. The length of the complete cp genome is 149,827 bp, and it comprises 128 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. By conducting phylogenetic analyses based on chloroplast genomes, we found that C. nobile was more closely related to Matricaria chamomilla var. recutita within the chamomile species. This finding contributes to a better understanding of the phylogenetic relationship between C. nobile and other

Chamomile flowers (Chamaemelum nobile L.), widely known for their medicinal properties, were dried under different methods and conditions to preserve the plant and its health benefits. Sun drying with forced and natural convection was applied, and the effect of adding a mesh shading was evaluated to compare against controlled conditions (drying in an electric oven and a forced convective dryer). Bioactive compounds such as carotenoid content (3.15-7.95 mg/g), antioxidant activity (70.20-89.23%), and ascorbic acid (32.59-52.31 mg/100 g) were evaluated as response variables. Physical properties

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease, which manifests as a succession of outbreaks. OLP was associated with salivary oxidative stress. Randomized, double blind, parallel-group study was performed. The sample consisted of 55 clinically and histopathologically diagnosed OLP patients. Twenty-six patients were treated with 2% Chamaemelum nobile gel and 29 with a placebo. Nonstimulated (basal) saliva was collected on the first day of the study and 4 weeks later. Salivary total antioxidant status (TAS) was evaluated by four different methods: two TAC (6-hydroxy-2,

In cattle, Hyalomma scupense serves as an important vector of several pathogens resulting in diseases, subsequently affecting the agricultural field as well as the economy. Resistance to chemical acaricides has become widespread affirming the need for new drugs to tick control. The goal of this study was to investigate the acaricidal, repellent activities as well as the putative mode of action of two essential oils (EOs) from Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree) and Chamaemelum nobile (Roman chamomile) on Hyalomma scupense. The chemical composition of EOs was also evaluated. Different concentrati

The study characterized the essential oils of eight aromatic medicinal plants (Tagetes filifolia, Aloysia citrodora, Cymbopogon citratus, Eucalyptus globulus, Chamaemelum nobile, Piper aduncum, Minthostachys mollis, and Rosmarinus officinalis) using Raman spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Raman spectra allowed the identification of bands associated with C-H, C=C, C-O, and C=O bonds, evidencing the presence of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and oxygenated compounds. GC-MS analysis confirmed these results, detecting 224 compounds, predominantly terpenoids. Among the m

The Compositae (Asteraceae) family of plants is currently an important cause of allergic plant contact dermatitis in Europe. The family comprises some of the oldest and most valued medicinal plants, and the increasing popularity of herbal medicine and cosmetics may theoretically result in a growing number of Compositae sensitizations from these sources. According to the literature at least 15 species, including among others arnica (Arnica montana), German and Roman chamomile (Chamomilla recutita and Chamaemelum nobile), marigold (Calendula officinalis), Echinacea and elecampane (Inula helenium

The dried flowers of Chamaemelum nobile (L.) All. have been used in traditional medicine for different conditions related to the spasm of the gastrointestinal system. However, there have been no experimental studies to support the smooth muscle relaxant effect of this plant. The aim of our research was to assess the effects of the hydroethanolic extract of Roman chamomile, its fractions, four of its flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin, hispidulin, and eupafolin), and its essential oil on smooth muscles. The phytochemical compositions of the extract and its fractions were characterized and quantifie
