Oxytocin is used for the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage, the leading cause of maternal mortality in low- and middle-income countries. Because of the high instability of oxytocin, most products are labeled for storage at 2-8°C. A sensitive and specific method for the determination of chlorobutanol (1,1,1-trichloro-2-methyl-2-propanol) in mouse serum, urine, and embryos by capillary gas chromatography with electron capture detection is described. For sample preparation n-hexane was used to extract chlorobutanol and the internal standard 2,2,2-trichloroethanol (TCE) from each matrix. INTRODUCTION: Drug-induced torsades de pointes (TdP) is a potentially lethal ventricular arrhythmia that is associated with drugs that prolong the QT interval on the electrocardiogram (ECG) due to their interference with the cardiac potassium current, IKR. Intravenous (IV) formulations of methadone have been associated with TdP and contain the preservative chlorobutanol, which, like methadone, blocks IKR. Chlorobutanol (1,1,1-trichlor-2-methyl-2-propanol) decreases the duration of the latent period of Limulus ventral eye receptor potentials. This effect is both concentration and intensity dependent. The stability of 89 pesticides (17 organochlorine, 33 organophosphorus, 8 pyrethroid, 12 carbamate, and 19 other pesticides) in 6 kinds of organic solvents (methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, and acetone) was investigated using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). All of the investigated pesticides were stable in all of the tested organic solvents during storage for 6 hours at room temperature in the dark except captafol, captan, phosmet, chinomethionat, and dicofol. However, the decreases of captafol, captan, phosmet, and chinomethionat were observed in methanol.

In this study, we investigated the insecticidal activities, including contact toxicity, fumigant toxicity, and repellent activity, of Litsea cubeba fruit extracts against Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). BACKGROUND: Many different substances for cerumenolysis have been evaluated in clinical trials. We carried out a systematic review and network meta-analysis to compare their effectiveness.
METHODS: Electronic databases were searched for randomised clinical trials conducted in patients with impacted cerumen evaluating cerumenolytics. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients with wax clearance using manual techniques. Rankogram plot was used to assess the "best" cerumenolytic. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) was the effect estimate.
