Chromolaena moritziana (Sch. Bip. ex Hieron.) King & Robin. (Asteraceae) is used in local ethnomedicine as an anticatarrhal, a depurative and in the treatment of skin diseases. This ethnopharmacological information has a direct correlation with that reported for other Chromolaena species. Dichloromethane and aqueous extracts from the leaves as well as ethyl acetate extracts from the flowers have shown antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and a UV-V light effect was not observed against this bacterium. These results may justify the ethnomedical use in skin infections. The flavon

This study investigated the herbicidal effects of glyphosate on the invasive perennial weed Chromolaena odorata. Natural weed populations of selected 1.2 m in height plants were sprayed with 1% glyphosate. Measurements of gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence and glyphosate concentrations were taken five consecutive days after spraying in late summer (February 2023). Glyphosate was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). After herbicide application, CO2 uptake decreased from 9.5 µmol m− 2s− 1 on day 1 to 0.95 µmol m− 2s− 1 on day 5. Leaf conductance and transpiration foll

Nigrograna spp. have been reported as an emerging cause of black grain eumycetoma in immunocompromised patients. We report a unique case of Nigrograna chromolaenae, a plant pathogen previously unreported as a cause of cutaneous infection in a human host. A 71-year-old male with prior history of cardiac transplant and multiple comorbidities presented with a nodular hand lesion with continued progression. After initial antifungal agents were unsuccessful, the addition of posaconazole resulted in improvement of symptoms.

The study of wound‑healing plants has acquired an interdisciplinary nature with a systematic investigational approach. Several biochemicals are involved in the healing process of the body, including antioxidants and cytokines. Although several pharmaceutical preparations and formulations are available for wound care and management, it remains necessary to search for efficacious treatments, as certain current formulations cause adverse effects or lack efficacy. Phytochemicals or biomarkers from numerous plants suggest they have positive effects on different stages of the wound healing process v

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an age-related disease in dogs and man leading to prostate enlargement which impinges on the urethra causing urinary outflow obstruction. Due to the side effects of surgery and chemotherapy used for the treatment of this disease, attention is now focused on phytotherapeutics for its management. Thus, we investigated the inhibitory effect of hydro-methanol extract of Chromolaena odorata (HMECO) on testosterone propionate (TP)-induced BPH rat model. A total of forty-two 10-12 weeks old male Sprague-Dawley outbred albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) weighing 200

INTRODUCTION: Solid organ transplant recipients are particularly prone to infections, and many germs can be involved, including opportunistic pathogens. Regarding catheter-related infections however, the number of causative microorganisms is most often limited to germs of the skin flora, rare enterobacteria and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
CASE REPORT: We present here a case of venous catheter-related cutaneous infection in a man with immunosuppression, which was surprisingly caused by a rare environmental fungus, named Nigrograna chromolaenae. The therapeutic strategy combining posaconazole and r

Malaria is a global health challenge with endemicity in sub-Saharan Africa, where there are multiple drug-resistant strains and limited access to modern health care facilities, especially in rural areas. Studies indicate that African traditional medicine could make a substantial contribution to the reduction of malaria-related deaths and achievement of universal health coverage (UHC), particularly in these regions. Thus, this study evaluated the curative antimalarial effects of Chromolaena odorata leaf extract using mouse model. Forty-five (45) albino mice weighing between 18 and 22 g were gro

Chromolaena odorata (L.) R.M. King & H. Robinson is native to tropical America, and has naturalized in many other countries in tropical Asia, Austria, and West Africa. The species often forms dense thickets and reduces the native species diversity and population in the invasive ranges. The species is also considered as a noxious weed in agriculture fields, and listed in the 100 of the world's worst invasive alien species. The characteristics of its life-history such as the seed production rate, growth pattern, and adaptative ability to the environmental conditions may contribute to the invasiv

AIMS: Understanding how arrival order, nitrogen (N) availability and population density interact to shape plant invasion is critical for predicting and ameliorating biological invasions under global change. Chromolaena odorata is one of the most destructive invasive plants in tropical and subtropical regions, but the multifactorial drivers of its establishment and competitive dominance are not fully resolved.
METHODS: We constructed artificial communities in a common garden experiment and manipulated the arrival order of C. odorata (early, simultaneous and late arrival relative to native spec
