Compulsory Citizenship Behavior and Facades of Conformity: A Moderated Mediation Model of Neuroticism and Citizenship Pressure.

Drawing on the social exchange theory, this study investigates how compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) produces facades of conformity through citizenship pressure, and whether neuroticism moderates the relationship among them. This study surveyed 356 employees (259 males, 97 females; average age 37.7 years) of a northern Taiwanese corporation to investigate the relationship among CCB, citizenship pressure, and facades of conformity. The study found that neuroticism moderates the strength of the indirect effect of CCB and facades of conformity through citizenship pressure, such that the media

Supporting the Goal of Shared Citizenship.

The shared citizenship paradigm envisions, requires, and supports the engagement and full participation of people with disabilities as equal, respected, valued, participating, and contributing members of all aspects of society. The goals of shared citizenship are to enhance human dignity and autonomy, facilitate human endeavor, and maximize human engagement. This article describes how the goals of shared citizenship can be supported through a greater focus on systemic changes in research, policy, and practice that seeks to advance change across ecological systems and align the goals and princi

Citizenship and Community Mental Health Care.

Citizenship is an approach to supporting the social inclusion and participation in society of people with mental illnesses. It is receiving greater attention in community mental health discourse and literature in parallel with increased awareness of social determinants of health and concern over the continued marginalization of persons with mental illness in the United States. In this article, we review the definition and principles of our citizenship framework with attention to social participation and access to resources as well as rights and responsibilities that society confers on its memb

Linking citizenship pressure to work-family conflict: the mediating role of citizenship fatigue and the moderating role of mindfulness.

BACKGROUND: With volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, employees are often encouraged to take on tasks beyond their responsibilities, which may lead to citizenship fatigue, and be associated with work-family conflict. As an important individual resource, mindfulness may buffer this process. METHODS: drawing on resource conservation theory and role pressure theory, this study examines the mechanism underlying the relationship between citizenship pressure and employees’ work-family conflict and constructs a mediating model that includes citizenship fatigue and mindfulness. The data

Cancer Screening and Citizenship Status in the US.

IMPORTANCE: Immigrants without US citizenship, or noncitizens, disproportionately endure poverty, labor exclusions, and inadequate health care access-structural drivers of adverse cancer outcomes. While screening is critical for preventing cancer deaths, and cancer is the leading cause of death among noncitizens, little is known about citizenship status and its potential influence on cancer screening. OBJECTIVES: To examine cancer screening inequities associated with citizenship status, evaluate whether these inequities vary across states, and determine whether structural factors mediate thes

Parenting as Civic Action: A Relational Framework for Citizenship.

This article conceptualizes parenting as a form of civic action. Identifying a relational turn in theories of citizenship, we propose an analytical framework for examining civic meanings in everyday parental acts. Foregrounding the intersubjective and intergenerational nature of state-citizen relations, the framework expands existing theories to account for parental actions that are not readily recognized as political. Moving beyond a predominant focus on parents at the margins of civic life, we incorporate both privileged and shifting positionalities to capture multiple forms of civic parenta

The socioeconomic returns to citizenship: A randomized controlled trial.

Based on observational studies, conventional wisdom suggests that citizenship carries economic benefits. We leverage a randomized experiment from New York where low-income registrants with permanent residency who wanted to become citizens entered a lottery to receive fee vouchers to naturalize. Voucher recipients were about 36 p.p. more likely to naturalize. Yet, we find no discernible effects of access to citizenship on multiple economic outcomes, including income, credit scores, access to credit, financial distress, and employment. Leveraging a multidimensional immigrant integration index, w

Prisoner exposure to nature: Benefits for wellbeing and citizenship.

The direct or indirect experience of crime can cause individuals to feel vengeful against the perpetrator(s). The prison system reflects this sentiment by creating austere environments that are dehumanizing, punitive, and hopeless. Prisons are, therefore, environments in which retribution and punishment take priority over rehabilitation. Frequently, prisoners are believed to be untreatable because of their antisocial orientation. However, several factors influence an antisocial orientation such as socioeconomic status, family of origin, and mental health. The ubiquitous nothing works misbelief

[Relationships of transactional leadership, trust, and organizational citizenship].

Under the health-care insurance system in Taiwan, hospital management has not only to challenge the impacts of the post-SARS era, but also has to conquer the system change brought about by the National Health-Insurance Bureau. By global budget and various quality-control indicators, the hospital confronts pressure on restriction measures, including, on the one hand, reducing manpower, while on the other, pushing remaining employees to achieve more. The nursing department, comprising the highest percentage of faculty in the hospital, cannot but burden itself by accepting more duties. A ward nur

Does Compulsory Citizenship Behavior Necessarily Reduce Employee's Work Well-Being? The Role of Relative Deprivation and Resource Compensation Based on Compulsory Citizenship Behavior.

PURPOSE: On the basis of previous research results, the opinion that compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) leads to negative impacts over employees and organizations prevails. However, the latest researches negate the absence of rewards and favorable evaluation from organizational system for CCB. Instead, CCB is likely to be awarded by incentive allocation and recognitive affirmation. In the case of the resource compensation based on CCB, will the expected utility of CCB still show the consistence with the traditional CCB researches, imposing negative effects over employees and organizations?

Compulsory Citizenship Behavior and Its Outcomes: Two Mediation Models.

Employees view compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) as concessionary behavior they undertake because of pressure exerted by their organizations. This study applies affective events theory to CCB-workplace deviance relationships, and impression management theory to CCB-facades of conformity relationships, to posit that employee emotional exhaustion is an essential mediating factor that effectively explains how CCB contributes to workplace deviance and facades of conformity. This study utilizes two mediation models to investigate whether employees' CCBs are positively related to their work devi

Citizenship and recovery: two intertwined concepts for civic-recovery.

BACKGROUND: Validation of the psychometric properties of a new measure of citizenship was required for a research project in the province of Quebec, Canada. This study was meant to study the interplay between recovery- and citizenship-oriented supportive employment. As recovery and citizenship were expected to be two related concepts, convergent validity between the Citizenship Measure (CM) and the Recovery Assessment Scale (RAS) was tested. METHODS: Study objectives were to: 1) conduct exploratory factor analyses on the CM and confirmatory factor analysis on the RAS tools (construct validity

Reporting Intimate Partner Violence at the Intersection of Race and Citizenship.

This study explores the impact of citizenship status and racial and ethnic identity of a victim on the likelihood of intimate partner violence (IPV) being reported to the police in the United States. Using data from the National Crime Victimization Survey (2017-2023), the current study estimated multinomial logistic regression models to analyze both victim-reporting and third-party reporting patterns across different citizenship and racial and ethnic groups. Findings indicated that noncitizens of a racial/ethnic minority background were significantly more likely to report their victimization e

Good character: the implications of personality development and psychopathology for citizenship.

The introduction of new legislation in 2006 brought about changes to the way citizenship applications were considered in the UK. Over the intervening years, several hundred children born in the UK have been denied British citizenship as a result of changes to the 'good character' requirement in the legislation - namely its extension to cover all those aged 10 years or older applying for citizenship, including individuals who were born in the UK. As a result of the formulaic way in which this requirement is assessed, citizenship can be denied on the basis of historical patterns of behaviour or

The economic returns to citizenship: Evidence from a meta-analysis.

Citizenship is widely summarized as producing a "naturalization premium" for immigrants, but naturalization is selected: immigrants who naturalize differ in language, residence, employment, and motivation. We provide a quantitative meta-analysis of citizenship effects on immigrant earnings, synthesizing 60 preferred estimates from 31 studies. How a study separates the effect of citizenship from selection into citizenship-its identification strategy-explains more variation in estimates than destination country, citizenship regime, or any other study feature we code. Male suicide rates in German prisons and the role of citizenship.

PURPOSE: Prisoners are at a particularly high risk of suicide. In contrast to other psychosocial risk factors it remains unclear to what degree the risk of suicide differs between prisoners with local citizenship and foreigners. In order to provide more detailed information for suicide prevention in prisons, this study aims to compare suicide rates (SR) between these populations in German criminal custody. METHODS: Based on a German national database of completed suicide in custody, suicides by prisoners were analysed and compared with epidemiological data of the prison population and the gen

Pharmaceutical Citizenship: Antidepressant Marketing and the Promise of Demarginalization in India.

Among practitioners of biomedicine, to speak of people as 'marginalized' often amounts to saying that they do not have access to medical substances. Thus conceived, the best way to remove marginality seems to be to give medicines to those deprived of them. The peculiar relationship between marginality and pharmaceuticals is especially poignant in the case of antidepressant drugs, as these drugs appear to bring the patient 'back into society', but not any society, but middle-class consumer society. What is now special about antidepressants is that there is nothing special about them: antidepres
