A change in the traditional Japanese diet to include foods from other countries and increased reliance on motorized transportation has resulted in higher-caloric intake and lower energy expenditure. In consequence, the number of obese patients has grown rapidly, as has the number of patients with type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia, hypertension and coronary vascular disease. These have come to be called lifestyle-related diseases because changes in lifestyle are deeply associated with their onset and development. In the U.S. and Europe, lifestyle modification and medication are con

An approach focusing on behavioral activation (BA) was adopted in the cognitive therapy of A. T. Beck, and it came to be considered that BA can play an important role in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression. Therefore, in recent years, BA based on clinical behavior analysis has been developed as a new treatment (Martell, et al.). The core characteristics are as follows: 1) focusing attention on context in daily life to promote the behavior control of patients and avoidance of a hatred experience ; 2) breaking the vicious circle; 3) promoting the behavior according to the purpose t

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review aims to understand the foundations of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and biofeedback, their indications for therapy, and evidence-based support.
RECENT FINDINGS: Both CBT and biofeedback are noninvasive therapy options for patients who are suffering from a variety of chronic pain conditions, including chronic low back pain, headache, fibromyalgia, and temporomandibular disorder (TMD). CBT has been shown to be effective in treating multiple chronic pain conditions.

We review the literature on various strategies to augment cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Although traditional pharmacotherapy has only a small additive effect, research demonstrates that it is possible to select interventions that potentiate known mechanisms of CBT. D-cycloserine appears to potentiate activity at the N-methyl D-ethyl aspartate receptor and thereby facilitates fear extinction. Exercise may increase neural plasticity and thereby increase the efficacy of CBT for depression and anxiety. Noninvasive brain stimulation is thought to target the specific cortical regions needed fo

Collaborative empiricism, which involves a systemic process of therapist and patient working together to establish common goals in treatment, has been found to be one of the primary change agents in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This article focuses on the development of a therapeutic relationship and implementation of collaborative empiricism along with the elements that lead to success in treatment. This method is used to uncover patients' automatic thoughts and underlying beliefs in treating an array of emotional and behavioral disorders. The role of the therapist is discussed in deve

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques offer short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy. In this respect, it differs from classical psychoanalysis in emphasizing changes in thought patterns and behaviors rather than providing 'deep insight'. Importantly, the beneficial effects of CBT can be achieved in 10-20 sessions, compared with the many years required for classical psychoanalysis. Although CBT is often done on a one-to-one basis, it also lends itself to a group therapeutic setting. CBT was initially used in the treatment of mood disorders, but its use has subsequently been expanded to

Juvenile fibromyalgia (JFM) syndrome is a condition under the spectrum of chronic pain syndrome. It is characterized by chronic musculoskeletal pain with multiple tender points and other associated symptoms. Diagnosis requires ruling out organic causes in addition to at least five out of 18 tender points and fulfilling three out of 10 criteria. JFM can be debilitating and overwhelming to both the patient and the physician. Management requires an incredibly careful multidisciplinary approach, including psychotherapy and physiotherapy among others.

As a form of therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is more than a mere "toolbox." CBT allows us to better understand how the human mind is functioning because it is based on neuroscience and experimental and scientific psychology. At the beginning, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) was "nontheoretical," but nowadays (the most recent version being DSM-5), it is increasingly based on CBT paradigms (with the insertion of important notions such as cognitions and behaviors). This Brief Report presents what we currently know about generalized anxiety disorder (GAD

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a first-line psychotherapeutic treatment for bulimia nervosa (BN). This article outlines three specific interventions--introducing and using the CBT model of BN, self-monitoring of eating and related experiences, and psychoeducation regarding various aspects of BN--representative of CBT overall but unique in their application to individuals with BN. The theoretical basis and supporting research relevant to each technique are highlighted. Clinical vignettes are provided to illustrate how these interventions might be integrated into the psychotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-I) in chronic insomnia treatment.
METHOD: 236 patients with ICD- 10 nonorganic insomnia were assigned to group CBT-I (6 sessions, 6-10 patients). From this pool, 72 participants with no history of other psychiatric or sleep disorders conditions were selected. Eventually, 51 patients (40 female, mean age: 54.6+/-13.9y, mean insomnia duration: 7+/-6.3y) and 51 matched healthy controls (mean age: 55.4+/-14.3y) completed the study. Outcomes in the insomnia group at baseline and post-treatment were compared to control group. Subjec

The present study constitutes a brief literature overview, in which the term of clinical perfectionism, its etiopathology, its assessment and its relation to psychopathology, as well as the therapeutic interventions based on the Cognitive Behavioral Model are discussed. According to Frost, perfectionism is associated with one's desire to achieve the greatest degree of performance and it is accompanied by an extremely strict evaluation of that particular performance. The relationship with oneself as well as the relationship with others are both characterised by high standards and demands which

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the leading evidence-based treatment for bulimia nervosa. A new "enhanced" version of the treatment appears to be more potent and has the added advantage of being suitable for all eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and eating disorder not otherwise specified. This article reviews the evidence supporting CBT in the treatment of eating disorders and provides an account of the "transdiagnostic" theory that underpins the enhanced form of the treatment. It ends with an outline of the treatment's main strategies and procedures.

Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. The former is characterized by failure to maintain a minimum normal body weight, while the latter is typified by recurrent binge eating followed by inappropriate compensating behavior, which may include self-inducing vomiting; abuse of laxatives, diuretics or other medications; fasting; and over-exercise. Because eating disorders are difficult to detect in the early stages and patients frequently try to hide their condition and avoid seeking medical help, medical treatment is sometimes sought only once a patient's condition poses a

Although a common disease, conversion disorder still calls attention in the clinical practice. A case of conversion disorder, diagnosed as a psychogenic aphonia that persisted for a week, was reported in this paper. A 21-year-old woman developed symptoms after breaking off a long-lasting relationship with her boy-friend. History revealed that she was introvert with high neuroticism and communication problems. Cognitive-behavioral therapy was used. After the positive reinforcement in the therapy of her aphonia, assertion training for the development of communication skills was performed. In the

Introduction and objective: The professional literature lists psychotherapy as the preferred treatment option for tinnitus. More precisely, cognitive behavioral therapy carries the greatest evidence in reducing the psychological symptoms of those affected. We launched a cognitive behavioral therapy-type group program for individuals affected by tinnitus at our clinic in February, 2022. Methods: The program takes place over seven weeks, for an hour and a half each weekly session. The assessment of the intervention is done in a pre-post arrangement, with self-administered measurements along the

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Bulimia Nervosa Abstract. Abstract:: Cognitive behavioural therapy for eating disorders is an evidence-based effective method for the treatment of bulimia nervosa. It is based on a multifactorial and behavioal disorder model in which causes, triggering and maintaining conditions are considered and summarized in a behavioral analysis. Symptom-oriented standard procedures are used in the therapy process. Skills such as emotion regulation, interpersonal competence and cognitive techniques are taught. The low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction are of particular i
