Street Nursing: Teaching and Improving Community Health.

Living on the streets continues to be a traumatic and dangerous lifestyle that creates many challenges in society, especially challenges related to community health and health care. In San Antonio, Texas, half of the unhoused population is Hispanic, aligning with national reports that document how Hispanics/Latinxs are overrepresented in the unhoused communities. Street Medicine™ programs are surfacing nationwide and around the world, frequently as medical schools' initiatives, to provide medical care to unhoused populations, providing a unique learning opportunity for medical students and oth

Health inequalities and deprivation: a policy lens on community nursing.

With the government's 10-year health plan for England high on the agenda, there has never been a more poignant time for community services to drive forward their position in tackling the health inequalities in their local populations. Through the lens of recent policy and guidance, the author focuses on the potential role that community nurses will have in designing and delivering services as care is moved from hospital to local neighbourhood health centres. The unique perspective that community nurses bring, combining experience, knowledge and an insight into areas of deprivation, is widely r

Upon consent, the 30 study participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: primiparous, unmarried, or otherwise socially at-risk. Thirty-three percent of the participants were under 19 years of age. A doctorally prepared community health nurse (CHN) completed all interventions, including a comprehensive assessment. Over 20% of participants admitted mild to

The challenges of upskilling health care assistants in community nursing.

Community care is at the forefront of the National Health Service reforms. Role redistribution from registered nurses to health care assistants is growing. This paper examines the challenges of upskilling community health care assistants to undertake catheterisation for uncomplicated patients in the community. Social constructivist methods facilitated reflective practice. Challenges included fears around delegation, accountability and the responsibilities involved in supporting the development of health care assistants. Recommendations suggest that community health care assistants offer a valu

Community health nurses and family planning services for men.

Current concerns about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), as well as unintended pregnancy, have drawn increasing attention to reproductive health services for men. This report presents information about responses by 844 community health nurses (CHNs) to a self-administered mailed questionnaire that included questions about the extent of the nurses' involvement in delivering or administering family planning services to men, their knowledge and attitudes about men and family planning, and their preparation for working with men. Our sample included

The integration of mental health care into primary healthcare (PHC) is one of the key recommended strategies to scale up access to treatment. However, little is known about PHC nurses' mental health literacy (MHL). METHOD: Seventy-four nurses (46 women, 28 men) were recruited from 13 CHCs in the western province of Rwanda. Participants an
