Computer speech-based training of literacy skills in neurologically impaired children: a controlled evaluation.

Twenty-two reading-disabled children were randomly assigned to one of four training conditions to evaluate the effectiveness of a computer speech-based system for training literacy skills. The sample included 17 children with significant neurological impairment of various etiologies (including spina bifida and hydrocephalus, seizure disorder, brain tumors, cerebral palsy, and head injury) and five developmental dyslexics. The training employed a "talking" computer system that provides synthesized speech feedback during the course of learning. The training conditions included three word recogni

Effects of a brief but intensive remedial computer intervention in a sub-sample of kindergartners with early literacy delays.

Living Letters is an adaptive game designed to promote children's combining of how the proper name sounds with their knowledge of how the name looks. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was used to experimentally test whether priming for attending to the sound-symbol relationship in the proper name can reduce the risk for developing reading problems in the first two grades of primary education. A Web-based computer program with more intensive practice than could be offered by teachers affords activities that prompt young children to pay attention to print as an object of investigation. The use of a computer-based program focused on the syllabic method to support early literacy in children with cochlear implants.

BACKGROUND: Children with cochlear implants (CIs) often lag behind children with normal hearing (NH) in early literacy skills. Furthermore, the development of language skills associated with their emergent literacy skills seems to depend on good auditory access. Supporting language acquisition and early literacy in children with CIs may prevent difficulties in primary school. The use of technology may facilitate auditory and speech recovery in children with CIs, but evidence on computer-based early literacy programs is limited. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates (a) the effects of a computer-

Bridging the Digital Prevention Gap: A Systematic Literature Review of Digital Health Literacy and Preventive Health Behaviors in Low-Income Communities.

Digital health literacy is increasingly central to preventive healthcare, particularly in low-income and socioeconomically vulnerable communities where limited internet access, lower health literacy, and digital exclusion may restrict engagement with prevention services. Although digital health tools are expanding, evidence remains fragmented on how digital health literacy is associated with preventive behaviors in disadvantaged populations. This systematic literature review examined the association between digital health literacy and preventive health behaviors, including COVID-19 prevention,

Nursing faculty concerns regarding the adoption of computer technology.

This article describes a study conducted to determine nursing faculty concerns about the use of computer technology. Study participants answered a standardized questionnaire (Stages of Concern) designed to measure concern about innovation adoption, and an author-developed survey, which included questions on level of technology use. The questionnaire and survey were given to nursing faculty before and after their participation in a series of computer technology and literacy workshops. Initially, most workshop participants were low-level computer users whose concerns about technology decreased a

Digital literacy level and associated factors among health professionals in a referral and teaching hospital: An implication for future digital health systems implementation.

BACKGROUND: In Ethiopia and other developing countries, electronic medical record systems and other health information technology are being introduced. However, a small proportion of low-income countries have successfully implemented national health information systems. One cause for this can be the lack of digital literacy among medical practitioners. As a result, this study aimed to assess health professionals' digital literacy level and associated factors in Northwest Ethiopia. METHOD: A quantitative cross-sectional study was employed among 423 health professionals working in a teaching an

Unlocking Morphology: A Case Study of Morphological Knowledge Growth in a Deaf Student Using Computer-Delivered Intervention.

Morphological knowledge (MK), or awareness of word structure and morphemic relationships, is a critical component of literacy for students who are D/HH. However, it has been explored to a lesser extent than other literacy components, such as phonological awareness and vocabulary. This case study examined the responsiveness of an 11-year-old bilingual student who is deaf to a computer-delivered supplemental morphology intervention, the Morphological Analysis Pathway to Reading (MAP-R). Over 22 weeks, the student completed 22 online modules targeting derivational affixes and root-word relationsh
