Physiological Responses and Tolerance Mechanisms to Cadmium in Conyza canadensis.

Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of different concentrations of Cd on the performance of the Cd accumulator Conyza canadensis. Cd accumulation in roots and leaves (roots>leaves) increased with increasing Cd concentration in soil. High Cd concentration inhibited plant growth, increased the membrane permeability of leaves, and caused a significant decline in plant height and chlorophyll [chlorophyll (Chl) a, Chl b, and total Chl] content. Leaf ultrastructural analysis of spongy mesophyllic cells revealed that excessive Cd concentrations cause adverse effects on the chloroplast a

Severe urticaria in a horse after consumption of horseweed (Conyza canadensis (L.) Cronquist) - A case study.

Our paper presents a case study of a Welsh pony mare with grazing-induced severe urticaria. The main clinical signs were eye swelling, depression and extensive urticaria. Physical examination revealed no other abnormalities. Botanical sampling revealed horseweed (Conyza canadensis) as the most abundant species and a potential allergen plant due to sesquiterpene lactones (SQL). Differential diagnosis strongly suggested that the clinical signs were the result of a hypersensitivity reaction to this plant. Former studies brought controversial data about the toxic or allergic potential of horseweed

[Removal of weremit from the abdomen. Interpretation and efficacy of an ancient Egyptian prescription by the newest scientific results].

Significant percentage of today's knowledge of ancient Egyptian medicine has been acquired from papyri left behind from various periods of Egyptian history. The longest and the most comprehensive is the Ebers papyrus, kept at the University Museum of Leipzig, which was written more than one thousand years before Hippocrates (c. 460-377 BC). One of the riddles among the prescriptions of the Ebers papyrus Eb20 has been used in order to remove the so called "wemyt" weremit from the abdomen with the help of a drink, which consists of "jnnk", Conyza dioscoridis in milk or sweet beer. Elemental distribution and chemical speciation of copper and cobalt in three metallophytes from the copper-cobalt belt in Northern Zambia.

Three metallophyte species, Persicaria capitata, P. puncata (Polygonaceae), Conyza cordata (Asteraceae) from mineral wastes in the Zambian copper-cobalt belt were studied. This study focused on the elemental distribution in the roots, stems and leaves, using a range of techniques: micro-PIXE, SEM-EDS synchrotron XFM and XAS. The species differed in their responses to growing on Co-Cu-enriched soils: Persicaria puncata is a Co hyperaccumulator (up to 1060 μg g-1 in leaves), while Persicaria capitata and Conyza cordata are Co-excluders. All three species are Cu-accumulators. The highest concentr

Agrochemical and weed influences on Neoseiulus californicus predation in soybean.

The olfactory system is one of the primary decision-making mechanisms in arthropod foraging. Plants emit volatile compounds when attacked by herbivores, which can directly influence predator foraging. Given the diversity of agrochemicals used in soybean cultivation, it is necessary to investigate their possible effects indirect on natural enemies. In this study, the olfactory responses of the predatory mite Neoseiulus californicus were evaluated in soybean plants infested by Tetranychus urticae in the presence of the fungicides Strobilurin and Triazole, the herbicide Glyphosate, and the invasi
