The aqueous extract of Crinum giganteum given intraperitoneally at doses of 6.25, 12.5 and 25 mg/kg in rats prolonged the duration of pentobarbital sleeping time and in mice reduced spontaneous motor activity, decreased the exploratory activity and attenuated amphetamine-induced stereotype behavior. The intraperitoneal and oral preliminary LD(50) in mice were found to be 627 and 1468 mg/kg, respectively. The data obtained suggest that the aqueous extract of C. giganteum contains some biologically active principles with sedative activity.

Antiplasmodial bioassay guided fractionation of a Madagascar collection of Crinum firmifolium led to the isolation of seven compounds. Five of the seven compounds were determined to be 2-alkylquinolin-4(1H)-ones with varying side chains. Compounds 1 and 4 were determined to be known compounds with reported antiplasmodial activities, while 5 was believed to be a new branched 2-alkylquinolin-4(1H)-one, however, it was isolated in limited quantities and in admixture and therefore was synthesized to confirm its structure as a new antiplasmodial compound. Along with 5, two other new and branched co

This study investigates the phytochemical and pharmacological profiles of Crinum asiaticum L. var. anomalum Baker from Vietnam. Phytochemical screening identified diverse secondary metabolites, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and alkaloids. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the n-hexane fractions revealed 19 major compounds. While all extracts showed moderate antioxidant activity, the chloroform fraction exhibited superior antidiabetic potential via α-amylase inhibition (IC50 = 83.13 ± 6.67 µg/mL). Furthermore, at non-cytotoxic concentrations (3.13 to 50 µg/mL), this fraction
