Current Practice and Expert Perspectives on Cultural Adaptations of Digital Health Interventions: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Some people are less likely to benefit from digital health interventions (DHIs) than others. Culture, along with other factors, contributes to these differences. DHIs that do not address a population's cultural norms or concerns are likely to be less effective. One way to create culturally sensitive DHIs is through cultural adaptations. Yet, there is currently little evidence-based guidance on when and how to adapt DHIs. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to capture the experiences of experts to understand the (1) current practices, (2) challenges, and (3) recommendations around culturally adapt

Creating Safe Spaces: A Community Health Worker-Academic Partnered Approach to Addressing Intimate Partner Violence.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a persistent public health problem in the United States, with an estimated one in three women experiencing rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner within her lifetime. Non-Hispanic Black women disproportionately experience IPV, but there has been limited success in implementing culturally appropriate prevention programs and services for members of this population. Community health workers (CHWs) are trusted members of under-resourced communities who provide reliable health information and improve the cultural appropriateness of service

Intervention mapping for systematic development of a community-engaged CVD prevention intervention in ethnic and racial sexual minority men with HIV.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality in the United States, disproportionately affecting marginalized populations such as Black and Latinx sexual minority men with HIV. These individuals face heightened CVD risk due to chronic inflammation related to HIV, side effects from treatment, and intersecting social disadvantages, including stigma and discrimination. Behavioral interventions specifically targeting these populations have been limited, with insufficient uptake in marginalized communities. METHODS: This study used Intervention Mapping (IM) to develop

Peer ambassador stories: formative qualitative research to enhance the reach of PrEP, HIV testing, and behavioral health treatments to LMSM in South Florida.

Existing HIV prevention interventions, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and behavioral health treatments inadequately reach Latino men who have sex with men (LMSM) in the US. This study involved formative research to inform the content, design, and implementation of a scalable, low resource implementation strategy - peer ambassador stories - stories from peers to normalize using PrEP, HIV testing, and behavioral health treatment. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 20 LMSM to elucidate their content, design, and implementation preferences for peer ambassador stories. Men were

Effectiveness of pocket ark 2.0 in enhancing post-flood response and improved knowledge of workers: a pilot test study.

Flood recovery workers, also known as reconstruction workers, face elevated occupational risks, including exposure to hazardous environmental conditions, infectious agents, and unsafe labor practices, yet often lack access to timely, culturally appropriate safety training and advocacy resources. Pocket Ark 2.0, a mobile application software, was developed as a bilingual, mobile digital decision-support and training platform designed to enhance occupational safety, preparedness, and worker advocacy during post-flood disaster recovery. The objective of this pilot study was to evaluate the usabil

Unseen and underserved: A scoping review of perinatal mental health interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Maternal mental health (MMH) remains a critical public health issue across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Despite the high burden, access to culturally appropriate and evidence-based mental health interventions remains limited. This scoping review examines interventions targeting mental health outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women across SSA countries. Guided by PRISMA-ScR and Arksey and O'Malley's framework, a comprehensive search was conducted across 14 electronic databases for peer-reviewed intervention studies published in English between 2000 and March 2026. A total of 57 studies across 1

Measurement, Education and Tracking in Integrated Care (METRIC): use of a culturally adapted education tool versus standard education to increase engagement in depression treatment among Hispanic patients: study protocol for a randomized control trial.

BACKGROUND: Significant mental health disparities exist for Hispanic populations, especially with regard to depression treatment. Stigma and poor communication between patients and their providers result in low use of antidepressant medications and early treatment withdrawal. Cultural factors which influence treatment decisions among Hispanics include fears about the addictive and harmful properties of antidepressants, worries about taking too many pills, and the stigma attached to taking medications. Primary care settings often are the gateway to identifying undiagnosed or untreated mental he

Racial Disparities in Fertility Care: A Narrative Review of Challenges in the Utilization of Fertility Preservation and ART in Minority Populations.

Significant ethnic and racial disparities exist in the utilization and outcomes of assisted reproductive technology (ART) in the United States. The popularity of fertility preservation (FP) procedures, a specific application of ART for those desiring to delay childbearing, has increased; however, many minority populations have seen a less rapid uptake of these services. Minority patients pursuing ART are more likely to have poorer in vitro fertilization (IVF) and pregnancy outcomes. These outcomes are used to predict success after FP and may lessen the appeal of such procedures in these popula

Case studies in medical futility.

Technology has provided means to sustain life and provide care regardless of whether the treatment is appropriate and compassionate given the condition of the patient. This study presents two case histories, compiled from historical patient charts, staff notes and observations, that illustrate the variety of ethical issues involved and the role culture plays in the decision making process related to possible futile medical treatment. Ethical and cultural issues related to the cases are discussed and processes are presented that can help hospitals to avoid, or decrease the level of, medically f

A virtual randomized controlled trial of an alcohol-exposed pregnancy prevention mobile app with urban American Indian and Alaska Native young women: Native WYSE CHOICES rationale, design, and methods.

BACKGROUND: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) result in lifelong disability and are a leading cause of preventable birth defects in the US, including for American Indian and Alaska Natives (AIANs). Prevention of alcohol exposed pregnancies (AEPs), which can cause FASD, is typically aimed at adult women who are risky drinkers and have unprotected sex. Among AIANs, AEP prevention research has been primarily conducted in reservation communities, even though over 70% of AIANs live in urban areas. Culturally appropriate AEP prevention for urban AIAN young women, regardless of current drinking

The 24-h reporting of Gram stains from positive blood cultures contributes to physician's use of appropriate antimicrobials: Experience at a university hospital.

Although recent technological advances for the diagnosis of bloodstream infection (BSI) provide rapid and accurate results, blood culture maintains a key role in the diagnosis of BSI. The objective of this study was to determine whether 24-h reporting by telephone to disclose the suspected microorganism based on the Gram stain morphology from positive blood cultures (first laboratory report) affects a physician's use of appropriate antimicrobials. A total of 627 (14%) out of 4413 blood samples, excluding duplicate samples from the same patient on the same day, were positive for blood cultures

A protocol for developing a digital-based education and self-screening model to enhance HIV knowledge, self-awareness, and testing uptake among adolescents in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Adolescents remain a critical population in the global human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic, particularly in low - and middle-income countries such as Indonesia, where testing uptake and awareness among youth remain low. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a peer-supported, digital-based HIV education and self-screening intervention tailored for adolescents in Yogyakarta. By integrating digital technology with peer-led support, the intervention addresses stigma-related barriers, limited access to youth-friendly services, and low health literacy. Using a mixed-methods research and d
