Cystadenocarcinoma (papillary cystadenocarcinoma) of the salivary gland is a rare malignant neoplasm. Major locations of this neoplasm are the parotid gland, the sublingual gland, and minor salivary glands, while occurrence in the submandibular gland is extremely rare. As far as we know, only one report, written in the French language, has been published concerning cystadenocarcinoma of the submandibular gland, but no report is available in the English language. In this report, we describe a case of cystadenocarcinoma arising from the submandibular gland of a 54-year-old male patient. The neop

Biliary cystadenocarcinomas are a very rare set of neoplasms that occur in the liver, the extrahepatic bile duct system, and occasionally in the gallbladder. We report on a 75-year-old man with a cystadenocarcinoma of the gallbladder who presented with mild abdominal discomfort and a palpable mass in the right upper abdomen. The diagnostic workup included ultrasound, magnetic resonance tomography, and fine needle core biopsy and revealed a multicystic tumor 16 cm in diameter. The patient underwent multivisceral resection of the tumor with a resection of the right colon, a partial resection of

A 57-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of pelvic fullness. He had no lower urinary tract symptoms or altered bowel habits. On examination, there was a non-tender pelvic mass which extended from the pubic symphysis to the level of the umbilicus. CT scan of the abdomen demonstrated a 22×11×11 cm cystic mass arising from the pelvis extending into the midline and superiorly to the umbilicus. Other than raised carcinoembryonic antigen of 7.6 ng/mL (<5.0), the remainder of his blood test were unremarkable. Flexible cystoscopy demonstrated a convex deformity of the bladder wall in keeping

Primary biliary cystadenocarcinomas are rare malignant neoplasms of the liver. We report a case that was operated with a preoperative diagnosis of hydatid cyst of the liver. The patient underwent a wide surgical excision of the cyst. Histopathological examination revealed a hepatobiliary cystadenocarcinoma. The patient remains asymptomatic at 2 years following surgery. The importance of differentiating these rare tumors from hepatic hydatid cysts, especially in areas where the disease is endemic, is highlighted in this case report.

One case of primary mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the lung is recorded. The patient was a 67-year-old male with a peripheral mass of the right lung, treated by pneumonectomy. The tumor was made up of fibrous-walled cyst containing abundant mucinous material. Microscopically, it revealed the same morphology as its counterparts arising in other common sites: ovary, appendix and pancreas. The transitional change of the cystic lining from benign features resembling reactive respiratory epithelium to frank malignancy indicated that the tumor had the origin from the lung. This is a very rare intrap

A case of a primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of ovarian type found at laparotomy in the presence of two normal ovaries is described. Careful examination of the tumor showed no evidence of ovarian tissue in the wall. The appearance of this tumor could be traced from areas of benign mucinous cystadenoma, through a mucinous tumor of borderline malignancy to a highly malignant anaplastic tumor containing only occasional mucicarmine positive cells. In areas, the connective tissue of the neoplasm, resembled ovarian stroma in appearance. At autopsy, the retroperitoneum was free of

The commonly seen primary malignant neoplasms of the spleen are angiosarcoma and lymphoma. We present a case of serous cystadenocarcinoma of the spleen. It was presumed to be originated from dropped nonmalignant ovarian tissue, which was accidentally implanted to the splenic surface during hysterectomy and bilateral salpingooophorectomies for torsion of right fallopian tube 9 and half years ago and transformed into serous cystadenocarcinoma later. Computed tomography demonstrated a multilocular predominantly cystic tumor with internal soft tissue components in the spleen.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian neoplasms, other than sex cord--stromal tumors, are rare causes of hyperandrogenism. Only two cases of primary mucinous carcinomas associated with virilization have been reported.
CASE: A 50-year-old female was referred to our clinic with a large pelvic mass. On examination she had significant facial hirsutism, clitoromegaly, and male pattern pubic hair growth. Serum levels of testosterone and dihydroepiandrosterone sulfate were elevated. A 30-cm, multilocular, solid and cystic, left ovarian mass was resected. Histology revealed moderately to poorly differentiated mucinous

BACKGROUND: Mucoceles resulting from cystadenomas of the ovary are uncommon. Although rare, rupture of the mucoceles can occur without causing any abdominal issue. This report concerns an unusual and interesting case of the right ovary associated with liver, spleen and kidney cysts.
CASE PRESENTATION: A case of ruptured mucocele resulting from cystadenoma of the ovary occurred in a 63-year-old woman. The patient underwent x-ray, ultrasound and a CT scan. Localised pseudomyxoma peritonei associated with adenocarcinoma of the right ovary was diagnosed. The patient underwent resection of the ova

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous metastasis of colorectal cancer is rare. We report a case of fistular lesions of the buttocks revealing a mixed tumour of the appendix involving mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and carcinoid tumour.
CASE REPORT: A 67-year-old woman was admitted for four skin fistulae of the right buttock present for 6 years. Histological examination of skin biopsy specimens identified infiltration of the dermis by metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma while colonoscopy showed a caecal tumour measuring 4 cm. Surgical excision was performed involving right hemicolectomy, evacuation of retroperito

A 60-year-old woman presented with a mass in the left upper abdominal quadrant. Noninvasive studies showed a cystic structure arising from the pancreas. Pathologic studies of the tumor revealed pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma; the fluid contained Strongyloides larvae. There was no evidence of disseminated Strongyloides or immunosuppression. Results of stool examinations were also negative for Strongyloides. Were these larvae the etiologic agent for the carcinoma? Other parasitic infestations have been associated with carcinoma. This is the first reported association between Strongyloides and cys

Acinar cell cystadenocarcinoma is a rare malignant epithelial neoplasm of the pancreas with a diffusely cystic, gross architecture in which the cysts are lined with neoplastic epithelial cells that demonstrate evidence of pancreatic exocrine enzyme production. This is the 10th case that has been reported in the literature. A 77-year-old male complaining of left hypochondrial pain was referred to our hospital for treatment of a pancreatic tumor. A huge, honeycomb-structured tumor was detected in the pancreatic tail. Distal pancreatectomy with total resection of the residual stomach and partial

A 68-year-old Caucasian gentleman presented with a 6-month history of a left sided Level I/II neck swelling involving the floor of mouth. MRI revealed a large cystic lesion and histology confirmed a diagnosis of primary papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the sublingual gland. Papillary cystadenocarcinoma was first described in 1991 by the World Health Organisation [WHO], and is a rare malignant neoplasm characterised by cysts and papillary endo-cystic projections. Papillary cystadenocarcinoma arising from the sublingual glands is extremely rare and has the potential to metastasise to cervical lym

BACKGROUND: Multicystic prostatic tumors are rare, with only a few reported cases of prostatic cystadenoma and cystadenocarcinoma in the scientific literature.
METHODS: A retrospective review of our tumor registry over the last 25 years identified 2 rare cystic tumors of the prostate: 1 multilocular cystadenoma and 1 multilocular cystadenocarcinoma.
RESULTS: The first case illustrates the clinical and pathologic features of prostatic multilocular cystadenoma. A 42-year-old man presented with a 16-cm suprapubic mass causing displacement of adjacent visceral organs. Pathologic examination afte

A 63-year-old man presented with dysuria. Ultrasonography revealed a cystic intravesical mass. During needle aspiration we aspirated bloody fluid. The result cytology was class II. We gave medication on an outpatient basis, but symptoms became worse. We performed transurethral resection (TUR) of prostate. Histopathological examination of the TUR specimen revealed a papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the prostate. We diagnosed the tumor as a stage B prostate cancer, and performed total prostatectomy. Histopathological examination of prostate revealed no residual cancer. Eleven cases of papillary c

PURPOSE: To report a patient with a cystadenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland, a tumor not previously described in the ophthalmic literature. Salivary gland cystadenocarcinomas constitute a distinct group of epithelial malignancies characterized by an invasive, predominantly cystic pattern of growth that have an indolent behavior and a low incidence of metastases and recurrences.
DESIGN: Single interventional case report.
METHODS: The clinical findings, results of imaging studies, and pathologic findings are presented.
RESULTS: A 67-year-old man presented with a 5-year history of ptosis in t

A 65-year-old woman with cystadenocarcinoma of the liver is reported, and 21 Japanese patients cited in the previous literature are reviewed. In our case, CT and US demonstrated a huge solid tumor with calcification in the right lobe of the liver. Angiograms showed a hypovascular tumor with peripheral irregular neovascularity. ERCP showed compression of the extrahepatic bile duct. Right lobectomy of the liver was performed. The pathological diagnosis was cystadenocarcinoma of the liver. In our case, it was difficult to diagnose cystadenocarcinoma because the cystic mass had viscious contents a
