Occupational Fatality Data Systems: A Sensitivity Analysis of North Carolina Data Systems for Occupational Fatality from 1992-2017.

BACKGROUND: Accurate surveillance of occupational fatalities is essential to determine their true burden and target prevention programs. The purpose of this study was to estimate the sensitivity of fatal occupational injuries abstracted from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) data system and death certificates in North Carolina (NC) from 1992-2017 overall, by intent, and by race. METHODS: We identified NC occupational fatalities from 1992-2017 through NC OCME data abstractions. From the non-occupational deaths, we sampled 5% of deaths from OCME data even calendar years with estim

Integration of Data and Information Systems Into the Health Data Strategy.

Integrating data and information systems into national health strategies is crucial in addressing the growing health care demands. This increase is driven by an aging population and the rising prevalence of chronic diseases. Such systems enable the collection, analysis, and publication of health data and provide critical insights based on data-driven decision-making that support policy decisions, health interventions, and service delivery. Moreover, the systems enhance the capacity for public health surveillance and enable health authorities to monitor health trends, predict disease outbreaks,

Evaluating newborn screening program data systems--Georgia, 1998.

All 50 states and the District of Columbia conduct newborn screening (NBS) programs that annually screen approximately 4 million infants for metabolic and other disorders to prevent mental retardation, disability, and death. In 1998, Georgia newborns were screened for eight disorders: phenylketonuria, galactosemia, tyrosinemia, homocystinuria, hypothyroidism, maple syrup urine disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and sickle cell disease. Appropriate data that reflect progress toward achieving short- and long-term goals are necessary to assess the effectiveness of NBS and to inform public h

Reporting and Data Systems in Radiology: The Chinese Experience.

The Reporting and Data Systems (RADS) framework has become a key driver of structured reporting and standardization in radiology. This review summarizes the development and local adaptation of major RADS systems in China. Established RADS frameworks (such as those for breast, liver, and lung imaging) are already widely implemented in clinical practice, and more recently introduced frameworks (including thyroid, prostate, and coronary artery disease RADS) are gaining broader adoption, whereas emerging frameworks (such as ovarian-adnexal, bone, colon, neck and lymph node RADS) remain at an early

Data interoperability for a systems approach to developmental conditions.

The rising prevalence of developmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, and learning disorders underscores the urgent need for an integrated approach to account for the dynamic interaction between genetic, environmental, and societal factors. At present, the information on these factors is scattered and fragmented across a wide range of caregivers using different systems, structures and semantics. As a result, healthcare providers often face excessive administrative burdens to gather relevant information from disparate sources, and in many cases, must repeat diagnostic tests due to a lack of a

Blood Cancer Clinical Trials Long-term Follow-up Using Integrated Healthcare Systems Data (BLISS): protocol for a data-linkage study integrating randomised clinical trials with national healthcare systems data.

INTRODUCTION: Randomised clinical trials (RCTs) are gold standard in evidence-based medicine, but follow-up typically relies on clinic visits and trial-specific data collection. Much of this information overlaps with routinely collected healthcare systems data (HSD), such as electronic health records and national registries. Leveraging HSD for trial follow-up has the potential to reduce cost, time and resource burden. However, concerns remain about data quality and evidence is needed to show that HSD-based outcomes are reported to an equivalent standard to trial-specific data. The Blood Cancer

Data-Driven Control of Discrete-Time Systems With Time-Varying Delay Under Multiple Data Perturbations.

This article investigates the problem of data-driven control design for unknown linear discrete-time systems with time-varying delays, where the controller gains are learned from input-state data affected by multiple perturbations. First, considering that the available measurements may be affected by noise, errors, and timing mismatches, a data-based parametric representation is constructed to characterize the set of all systems consistent with the collected perturbed data that contains the true system. Then, using the obtained data-based representation, the delay-dependent data-driven control

Data-Driven Learning Distributed Optimization of Heterogeneous Linear Multiagent Systems.

In this article, we investigate the distributed optimization problem of heterogeneous general linear multiagent systems by the adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) approach over directed communication networks. A distinctive feature of this work is the development of a data-driven approach that eliminates the need for prior knowledge of system dynamics for all agents. To address the challenges posed by unknown system dynamics, we utilize the ADP-based data-driven approach to develop the distributed optimization control law. First, the feedback gain of the control law is determined based on the s

Big data analysis for Covid-19 in hospital information systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a global public health crisis, affecting hundreds of countries. With the increasing number of infected cases, developing automated COVID-19 identification tools based on CT images can effectively assist clinical diagnosis and reduce the tedious workload of image interpretation. To expand the dataset for machine learning methods, it is necessary to aggregate cases from different medical systems to learn robust and generalizable models. This paper proposes a novel deep learning joint framework that can effectively handle heterogeneous datasets with distributio

A novel time stamping technique for distributed data acquisition systems.

In this paper, we discuss the design and implementation of a synchronizing technique for data acquisition systems, which can effectively use the normal, standard local area network cables to provide a time stamp, with a range up to 32 days, resolution of 10 ns, and synchronization within ± 5 ns. This system may be used to synchronize data being collected by independent heterogeneous data acquisition modules, that acquire events independently. Such distributed systems are generally designed with a tree-like structure or independent self-triggered acquisition boxes. These leaf edges are connecte

Rapid evaluation of human biomonitoring data using pattern recognition systems.

Assessing human biomonitoring data often necessitates dealing with fragmentary prior knowledge and a complex set of variables. A procedure for explorative data analysis via decision-tree analysis was undertaken to obtain high-level descriptive summary information on human exposure on a timely basis. This study is based on a subset of monitoring data of the Environmental Specimen Bank for Human Tissues within the German Environmental Specimen Bank (n sigma: 2401: 42/58% males/females; 34/66% born in East/West Germany). Integrating Insight and Uncertainty: Bayesian modeling for data-rich livestock systems.

Bayesian statistical modeling provides a principled framework for integrating biological knowledge, process understanding, and observed data in animal science research. By treating all unobserved quantities as random variables and explicitly defining probability distributions for both processes and observations, Bayesian methods allow researchers to quantify uncertainty, incorporate prior information, and evaluate full distributions of plausible outcomes. This manuscript introduces the foundational concepts of Bayes' theorem, probability, probability distributions, and Markov chain Monte Carlo

Adversarial dynamical systems characterize when data-driven learning succeeds or fails.

Many systems resist analytical modeling, making data-driven inference of dynamics important. Yet data-driven methods can fail to converge or generalize, leaving open a central question: When can system behavior be learned reliably from data, and when is such learning impossible? We answer this question using adversarial dynamical systems to identify the boundary between accessible and inaccessible regimes. In Koopman operator learning, a leading framework for representing nonlinear dynamics through linear spectral objects, we design optimal data-driven spectral algorithms with convergence and

Impact of data transfer between treatment planning systems on dosimetric parameters.

PURPOSE: In radiotherapy it is often necessary to transfer a patient's DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) dataset from one system to another for re-treatment, plan-summation or registration purposes. The aim of the study is to evaluate effects of dataset transfer between treatment planning systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-five patients treated in a 0.35T MR-Linac (MRidian, ViewRay) for locally-advanced pancreatic cancer were enrolled. For each patient, a nominal dose distribution was optimized on the planning MRI. Each plan was daily re-optimized if needed to match t

Developing and reusing bioinformatics data analysis pipelines using scientific workflow systems.

Data analysis pipelines are now established as an effective means for specifying and executing bioinformatics data analysis and experiments. While scripting languages, particularly Python, R and notebooks, are popular and sufficient for developing small-scale pipelines that are often intended for a single user, it is now widely recognized that they are by no means enough to support the development of large-scale, shareable, maintainable and reusable pipelines capable of handling large volumes of data and running on high performance computing clusters. This review outlines the key requirements

Implementation strategy for data-driven surgical systems: a South African perspective.

Surgical care is essential to achieving universal health coverage, yet many African low-income, lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) and upper-middle-income countries - including South Africa-struggle to harness healthcare data for surgical system strengthening. Despite global advocacy efforts and the adoption of surgical indicators such as perioperative mortality rate and surgical volume, fragmented routine health information systems, limited human resource capacity and siloed data architecture hinder effective, data-informed planning and policy. Drawing on a South African case study, this h

Operational planning of data-center cooling systems via collaborative neurodynamic optimization.

Data centers are essential facilities for information processing, storage, and transmission. The rapidly rising power consumption of data centers has become a global concern. In data centers, cooling systems consume a significant portion of power consumption. Existing planning methods are inefficient for the operation of data-center cooling systems. In this paper, a mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problem is formulated for the operational planning of data-center cooling systems. The problem is then decomposed into two subproblems involving continuous and discrete variables, respectively.
