A term neonate weighing 2900 g was referred in the first week of life with complaints of abdominal distension since birth. New onset respiratory distress was noted 36 hours prior to referral. Baby required non-invasive respiratory support and intravenous antibiotics as chest X-ray was suggestive of pneumonia. Ultrasound abdomen confirmed low ano-rectal malformation treated with cut-back anoplasty. Blood culture on admission grew a rare organism Delftia acidovorans The antibiotics were tailored as per the sensitivity pattern and continued for a duration of 14 days. Respiratory distress graduall

Endophthalmitis is a dreaded postoperative complication of cataract surgery. Delftia acidovorans is usually nonpathogenic and an unusual ocular pathogen. Isolated reports of delftia-associated sepsis, otitis media, endocarditis, keratitis, etc. exist in literature. We report a rare and unique case of delftia-related endophthalmitis in a 67-year-old male diagnosed 2 weeks after uneventful cataract surgery. He was treated successfully with core vitrectomy and intravitreal antibiotics. Microbiological evaluation of vitreous sample identified the causative organism as Delftia acidovorans. Post-vit

HISTORY: A 60 years old woman experienced a cat scratch 34 months ago on the left eyelid. Chronic, progredient skin lesions and headache developed. Treatments with cortisone, pimecrolimus, pregabalin and metamizole were not successful. After 24 months the patient complained of severe bulbus pain in the left eye, increased eye movement pain, and high photosensitivity. There were granulomatous papules in the area of the eye.
FINDINGS AND DIAGNOSIS: The interdisciplinary examination findings and clinical-chemical parameters were inconspicuous. A biopsy of the eyelid area revealed the detection o

Delftia acidovorans is an aerobic, nonfermenting Gram-negative bacillus. It is usually a nonpathogenic environmental organism and is rarely clinically significant. Although D acidovorans infection most commonly occurs in hospitalized or immunocompromised patients, there are also several reports documenting the infection in immunocompetent patients. The present article describes a B cell lymphoblastic leukemia patient with D acidovorans pneumonia who was successfully treated with antibiotic therapy. The present report indicates that unusual pathogens may be clinically significant in both immuno

BACKGROUND: Delftia acidovorans is distributed widely in the environment and has the potential to promote the growth of plants and degrade organic pollutants. However, it is also an opportunistic pathogen for human and many reports demonstrated that D. acidovorans has strong resistance to aminoglycosides and polymyxins.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to reveal the antibiotic resistance genes and pathogenic genes in a novel conditional pathogenic strain-D. acidovorans B804, which was isolated from the radiation-polluted soil from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China.
METHODS: The ant

Delftia acidovorans (D. acidovorans) is an aerobic, nonfermentative Gram-negative bacillus infrequently isolated from clinical specimens. The pathogenicity and clinical significance of the organism has not been ascertained due to uncommon clinical isolation and suspected low virulence. The organism has been reported to be inherently resistant to aminoglycoside group of drugs which remain as a widely used first-line drug of choice for febrile neutropenic patients. Hereby, we report a case of D. acidovorans-associated pleural effusion in a patient of metastatic adenocarcinoma diagnosed and treat

BACKGROUND: In recent years, Delftia acidovorans has gained attention for its rare occurrence in patient infections. The literature consists mostly of case reports, necessitating further research to comprehensively understand risk factors, clinical characteristics, and management strategies.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving patients diagnosed with Delftia acidovorans infection at a tertiary teaching hospital between January 2014 and December 2022. The data included demographic details, comorbidities, bacterial cultures, antibiotic susceptibility, and treatment outc

An 11-year-old girl with metastatic neuroblastoma developed recurrent bacteremia during sustained neutropenia after autologous peripheral blood transplantation. All febrile episodes of bacteremia were caused by single Delftia acidovorans strain revealed by ERIC-PCR. This strain became resistant to broad-spectrum penicillins and cephalosporins through antibiotic treatments. Removal of the indwelling vascular catheter resulted in resolution of the infection. So far as we know, this is the first report of vascular catheter-related D. acidovorans bacteremia in Japan.

We report the first case of recurrent intravascular-catheter-related bacteremia in a pediatric hemodialysis patient caused by Delftia acidovorans, previously called Comamonas acidovorans or Pseudomonas acidovorans. The patient had a history of multiple infections of central vascular catheters with other organisms, requiring courses of antibiotics and catheter replacements. Previously reported cases of D. acidovorans infections are reviewed. The isolate appeared to become resistant to cephalosporins after antibiotic treatment, but resistance could not be confirmed with additional testing. In vi

A 46-year-old woman was transferred to our emergency unit because of impaired consciousness and respiratory failure with the history of excessive pesticide intake. The patient was hypersalivative and had bilateral pupillary miosis. Laboratory results showed markedly decreased cholinesterase. She was intubated and treated in the intensive care unit with the diagnosis of organophosphorus poisoning. The patient had persisted diarrhea, with a high fever and stomach tenderness on day 10. Whole-body contrast enhanced computed tomography revealed a swollen, enhanced small intestinal wall, and blood c

Gram-negative bacilli causing infective endocarditis (IE) is rare, even in intravenous drug users. This case report underscores several clinically important aspects of Delftia acidovorans IE: the organism's ability to cause rapid destruction of normal native valves and to cause embolic occlusion of large arteries and its resistance to all aminoglycosides.

Delftia acidovorans is an opportunistic agent in several types of infections, both in immunocompromised and immune-competent individuals; its resistance to aminoglycosides and polymyxin, choice drugs for empirical treatment of Gram-negative infections, is remarkable. We report the antimicrobial susceptibility and the genetic relatedness of 24 D. acidovorans strains recovered from tracheal aspirates of 21 adult inpatients hospitalized in an intensive care unit at a Brazilian hospital, from 2012 to 2013. All of the isolates were recovered as pure cultures and in counts above 1,000,000 CFU/mL. No

Delftia acidovorans (D. acidovorans) is a non-fermentative, aerobic, Gram-negative bacillus typically found in environmental sources such as soil and water. Although considered an opportunistic pathogen, it has been implicated in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. This study presents a case of persistent cathether-related bacteraemia in a 61-year-old haemodialysis patient and offers a systematic literature review of similar cases. The patient, affected by end-stage kidney disease and dependent on a central venous catheter (CVC), presented with septic shock. Blood cultures

OBJECTIVE: To report an unusual case of keratitis in a cosmetic contact lens wearer caused by two rare organisms.
METHOD: Case report.
RESULTS: A 14-year-old cosmetic contact lens user presented with a paracentral corneal ulcer in her right eye. The cosmetic lenses were bought online. The cultures from corneal scrapings and contact lenses demonstrated heavy growth of Chryseobacterium meningosepticum and Delftia acidovorans. The treatment with topical ciprofloxacin and fortified gentamicin was effective, and the infection resolved with corneal scar after 5 weeks.
CONCLUSION: Use of cosmetic

Delftia acidovorans (D. acidovorans) is classified as a Gram-negative, aerobic non-fermenting bacillus that is commonly found in outdoor environmental elements, such as soil and water. In normal circumstances, it is considered a non-pathological environmental organism, rarely implicated in clinical settings with a low incidence of patient infection. D. acidovorans infections, including pneumonia and sepsis, are often associated with increased susceptibility to secondary infections from other Gram-negative bacteria, especially in patients with solid or hematologic malignancies. Henceforth, this

Non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria pose a considerable challenge in medical settings and are increasingly implicated in infections in these settings. Many are opportunistic pathogens that primarily affect patients with other acute or chronic health conditions. Among them, Delftia species-particularly Delftia acidovorans - have traditionally been regarded as of limited clinical relevance. However, a comprehensive literature review has identified 175 reported cases of Delftia infections, with D. acidovorans accounting the majority cases (87.4 %). Bacteraemia was the most commonly associated c

A targeted sequencing and genome mining approach for delftibactin-like biosynthetic pathways revealed three distinct biosynthetic gene cluster architectures (BGC del, dlc and dlp) encoded in genomes of members of the genus Delftia. Comparative metabolomic analysis guided the isolation and characterization of a yet unreported metallophore, delftichelin A from Delftia deserti DSM1621 (previously named Delftia acidovorans DSM1621). Prediction of BGC architecture and A domain specificity was in line with the structure analysis uncovering previously unreported differences in amino acid composition

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a multifactorial disorder involving genetic and environmental factors leading to pathophysiologic symptoms and comorbidities including neurodevelopmental disorders, anxiety, immune dysregulation, and gastrointestinal (GI) abnormalities. Abnormal intestinal permeability has been reported among ASD patients and it is well established that disturbances in eating patterns may cause gut microbiome imbalance (i.e., dysbiosis). Therefore, studies focusing on the potential relationship between gut microbiota and ASD are emerging. We compared the intestinal bacteriome
