Impact of dental caries severity and activity on oral health-related quality of life among children aged 8-11 years.

Caries disease can lead to strong impact in terms of pain and suffering, to functional impairment, and to negative effects on quality of life. Studies have demonstrated that the impact on quality of life increases with dental caries severity, and few studies have assessed the relationship between caries activity and children's oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the impact of dental caries severity and activity on the OHRQoL of schoolchildren. The study was conducted with a sample of children aged 8 to 11 years from Pelotas, southern Brazil.

Exploring time-killing and biofilm inhibition potential of bioactive proteins extracted from two varieties of Pleurotus ostreatus.

INTRODUCTION: Dental caries, caused by oral microbial pathogens, are a global health concern, further exacerbated by the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Bioactive proteins and peptides (BAPs) exhibit potent antimicrobial properties, targeting multiple cellular mechanisms within pathogens, reducing the likelihood of resistance development. Given the antimicrobial potential of BAPs, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of BAPs extracted from cultivated (Pleurotus ostreatus, PoC) and wild (Pleurotus ostreatus, PoW) mushrooms against pathogens responsible for de

Evaluation of developmental defects of enamel and differential diagnosis from dental caries using quantitative light-induced fluorescence technology: A cross-sectional investigation.

OBJECTIVES: Dental caries and developmental defects of enamel (DDE) are common conditions that impact oral health. Quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) is widely used for detecting dental caries, but its ability to identify DDE remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate fluorescence differences among sound, carious, and DDE-affected teeth using QLF, and to differentiate white hypomineralization from incipient caries. METHODS: Data from 704 teeth in 137 patients under 20 years old were analyzed. QLF images were acquired, and fluorescence parameters were measured. Statistical tes
