In vitro effects of dental cements on hard and soft tissues associated with dental implants.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Dental cements for cement-retained restorations are often chosen based on clinician preference for the product's material properties, mixing process, delivery mechanism, or viscosity. The composition of dental cement may play a significant role in the proliferation or inhibition of different bacterial strains associated with peri-implant disease, and the effect of dental cements on host cellular proliferation may provide further insight into appropriate cement material selection. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the cellular host response of

Truly Universal Dental Cements vs. Conventional Ones-Comparison of Mechanical Properties.

This article evaluates the mechanical performance of truly universal resin cements, which promise broad substrate compatibility, simplified self-adhesive dual-cure mechanisms, and functional monomers. It addresses the inconsistent classification of market materials labelled as 'universal' and the lack of clear guidelines. Flexural strength (FS), diametral tensile strength (DTS), and Vickers hardness (HV) of ten resin cements were evaluated: five classified as truly universal (RelyX Universal, Calibra Universal+, Nexus Universal, Panavia SA, SoloCem) and five conventional (Panavia V5, RelyX U20

In vitro cytotoxicity of different dental resin-cements on human cell lines.

Adhesive resin-cements are increasingly used in modern dentistry. Nevertheless, released substances from resin materials have been shown to cause cellular toxic effects. Disc-shaped specimens from 12 different resin cements and one conventional zinc phosphate cement were prepared and used for direct stimulation of five different human cell lines via transwell cell culture system or in an indirect way using conditioned cell culture media. Cytotoxicity was determined using LDH and BCA assays. All tested cements led to a decrease of cell viability but to a distinct extent depending on cell type,

Dental Cement Placement to Temporize Recalcitrant Dental Pain From Acute Pulpitis.

Acute pulpitis due to dental caries can commonly lead to severe pain that is recalcitrant to oral medications. Although definitive treatment normally requires a dentist, this is rarely available in the emergency department (ED), and patients can have prolonged delays for an available appointment. This case report described a patient with severe recalcitrant dental pain from acute pulpitis due to dental caries who had a temporary dental cement covering placed by the ED physician. The patient had almost complete resolution of dental pain that persisted for several days until the appointment with
