Marginal adaptation of resin in relation to application technique and use of a dental adhesive system.

Class V abrasion, erosion and caries lesions restored with composite resin seem to be more susceptible to microleakage, because the gingival margin is usually placed in cementum and/or dentine. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage, in vitro, of a dentinal bonding system using a technique of restoration with a positive and a negative control. This study was accomplished using extracted human teeth and dye penetration technique. The teeth were examined for microleakage after one month. It was concluded that in the gingival wall of the cavity microleakage was significantly r

Effect of fitting procedures on the marginal gap of all-ceramic crowns: an in vitro study.

Marginal adaptation is a crucial determinant of dental restoration success, directly influencing longevity and clinical outcomes. This study investigated the impact of fitting procedures on the marginal adaptation of CAD/CAM-fabricated all-ceramic crowns. Eight extracted human molars were prepared for crown fabrication using standardized techniques. An impression was carried out for each specimen and poured with type IV dental stone, followed by the CAD/CAM-based design and fabrication of the crowns. Marginal gaps were measured at eight designated points on each specimen using a Hirox Digital

Cariogenic Risk Modifies the Effect of Marginal Adaptation on Caries Adjacent to Posterior Composite Restorations: A Stratified Multivariate Analysis.

Background/Objectives: Caries adjacent to restorations or sealants (CARS) is among the most frequent biological causes of composite restoration failure, resulting from the interplay between the patient's cariogenic risk and restoration-related factors such as marginal adaptation. The study aimed to investigate whether cariogenic risk modifies the effect of marginal adaptation on the occurrence of caries adjacent to posterior composite restorations (CARS), using risk-stratified univariate analysis and a clustering-adjusted approach, to identify associated clinical, socio-demographic, and local

Effect of Additive and Subtractive Coping Production Techniques on Retention and Marginal Fit of Implant Supported Crowns.

BACKGROUND: Despite statins and other medications central to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) secondary prevention, stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) patients remain at significant cardiovascular risk, partly due to residual inflammation risk (RIR). This study aims to assess if adding Guanxinning to standard ASCVD therapy further mitigates RIR in SCAD patients. METHODS: In a prospective, randomized, single-blind endpoint design, 50 patients with SCAD who received ASCVD standardized treatment strategy were randomly assigned to either take Guanxinning tablets (4 tablets, thric

Evaluation and treatment of bacterial microleakage.

Recent data have shown a correlation between pulp response and material biocompatibility when microleakage is prevented. Considering vital dentin, the dentist must keep in mind that it is an extension of the pulp, presenting the first line of response to the consequences of microleakage. Healing of the dental pulp is ensured when a clinical seal is provided to prevent bacterial microleakage. Microleakage is a biological phenomenon with several important clinical implications. The affective component clinically presents as dentin postoperative hypersensitivity due to the episodic hydrodynamic f

Deep margin elevation. A case report study.

Deep subgingival margins are a much-debated topic in adhesive and restorative dentistry. The hydrophobic trait of direct composite resin materials challenges the restorative procedure of cavities with deep subgingival margins since isolation is complicated. A correct indication for a deep margin elevation (DME) treatment is the key to its clinical success, and adequate adaptation of the DME is crucial to its clinical performance. An adequate adaptation of the DME may potentially reduce bacterial accumulation and reduce the incidence of secondary caries as well as maintain periodontal health. T

In vitro performance of an autocured universal adhesive system in bonding to dentin.

BACKGROUND: The successful integration of resin-based dental adhesives significantly impacts restorative dentistry, providing efficient and aesthetically pleasing caries treatments. Among various adhesives, one-step self-etching adhesives (1-SEAs) have gained popularity due to their simplicity and short application time. However, concerns have been raised regarding their bonding performance and marginal adaptation characteristics, which differ from two-step self-etching adhesives (2-SEAs) and three-step etch-and-rinse adhesives. Additionally, light-cured bonding materials may encounter challen

The sealing of the tooth/amalgam interface by corrosion products.

A marginal gap exists between the amalgam restoration and the cavity walls. At this interface, there is a constant percolation of fluid containing ions, molecules and bacteria. With time, corrosion products of the amalgam components seal the gap at the amalgam/tooth interface. The corrosion processes for conventional and high copper amalgam and factors affecting the corrosion deposits are reviewed. Better amalgam adaptation to the cavity walls improves the chances of sealing the restoration by corrosion products. The effectiveness of cavity varnish in preventing microleakage until corrosive de
