Treatment methods for deep carious lesions in permanent teeth: A literature review.

Complete removal of carious dentin is currently regarded as overtreatment, and the stepwise (twostep) or selective (one-step) caries removal procedures are recommended. This literature review was aimed to summarize research findings on deep caries lesion management approaches in permanent teeth, to determine which method provides better outcomes and to identify possible research gaps. Only intervention studies published between 2000 and 2023 in the English language were considered. The PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases were searched in September 2023, and 7 relevant records were cons

Awareness of possible complications associated with direct composite restorations: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Resin-based composites (RBCs) are among the most widely used materials for direct dental restorations due to their aesthetics and conservative preparation requirements. However, their clinical application remains highly technique-sensitive, and long-term outcomes are frequently compromised by complications. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the most common clinical challenges associated with direct composite restorations and assess awareness of these complications among dentists, dental students, and patients. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus

The IADR Policy and Position Statements on Safety of Dental Amalgam.

Dental amalgam has served as a widely used restorative material in dentistry for over 150 years, demonstrating long-term clinical performance, cost-effectiveness, safety, and ease of placement, especially in situations where alternative restorative materials may be clinically less effective or economically less feasible. Composed of approximately 50% elemental mercury alloyed with silver, tin, copper, and other metals, current scientific evidence supports the safety of dental amalgam for the general population, excluding individuals with allergies to amalgam components or severe renal impairme

Preserving pulp vitality: part one - strategies for managing deep caries in permanent teeth.

This is the first article in a series reviewing the current literature surrounding the management of deep caries in permanent teeth. Approaches to caries management are continuing to evolve, with more conservative management increasingly favoured. This philosophy has never been more important than in managing the deep carious lesion. Evidence is emerging that the use of selective caries removal to reduce the risk of pulp exposure, in conjunction with calcium silicate cements, can be successful in maintaining pulp vitality, delaying the restorative cycle and prolonging the lifespan of the tooth
