Hydroxyapatite (HAP) inserts minimize restoration contraction by constituting a major part of the restoration; however, their effect on the relaxation of tooth tissues has not been previously tested. Finite element analysis was employed to estimate stress and displacement when HAP inserts with a thickness of 1.7 mm or 4.7 mm and a diameter of 4.7 mm were used to substitute for dentin. The volumetric contraction of the composite during polymerization, simulated through steady-state heat transfer analysis, yielded a contraction rate of 3.7%. Descriptive statistics revealed that the incorporation

The distribution of stress on short platform switched dental implants is of interest. Hence, the mandibular posterior molar area was modelled using a three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) with a continuous 1.5 mm cortical bone thickness and an inner cancellous bone core. The implants used in the study were 5 mm long, 4.5 mm wide and 3.5 mm wide at the abutments. 120 N of force was applied in both the vertical and oblique (20° and 35°) directions to create a realistic simulation. ANSYS Workbench was generated for each model. Von Mises stress was assessed in the cortical and cancellous b

CONTEXT: Understanding tooth biomechanics is essential for creating effective and durable dental restorations. While intact teeth are inherently resilient, cavity preparation compromises structural integrity, increasing fracture risk.
AIMS: This study utilized finite element analysis (FEA), the dominant in silico method for biomechanical investigation, to evaluate how cavity size influences stress and strain distribution in a three-dimensional mandibular molar model derived from micro-computed tomography.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: An FEA simulation was conducted on three tooth models (intact too

OBJECTIVE: The configuration factor (C-factor) is an index used to evaluate the relationship between cavity configuration and the development of polymerization shrinkage stress in dental restorations. Although C-factor has been widely researched, its correlation with stress analysis in dental restorations remains controversial. This review aims to discuss the application and limitations of C-factor and define the restricted conditions under which the C-factor "rule of thumb" is applicable.
METHODS: A thorough literature review was conducted on the application and limitations of C-factor in st

INTRODUCTION: Stress in dental students is well established with potential psychological distress, emotional exhaustion and burnout-related symptoms. Little attention has been given to the problems encountered by dental students during the transition from theoretical or paraclinical training to the clinical environment. The aim of this study was to adopt a qualitative research methods approach to understand the perceived stressors during students' clinical transition and provide insights for curriculum planners to enhance learning.
METHODS: This study analysed four groups of 2nd- and 3rd-year

BACKGROUND: Dental education is considered a highly stressful training process that can lead to high levels of stress, anxiety and depression, which can affect wellbeing and performance. Moreover, after the completion of training, working as a dentist is a stressful occupation due to direct interactions with patients and the necessity of carrying out complicated dental procedures in the vulnerable area of the patient's mouth. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate stress, anxiety, and depression levels experienced by dental students compared to those among dentists.
METHODS: A cross

BACKGROUND: Dental implants have become a widely accepted solution for the replacement of missing teeth, offering functional and esthetic benefits. The long-term success of dental implants largely depends on the distribution of stresses in the surrounding bone, as excessive stress can lead to bone resorption and implant failure. Finite element analysis (FEA) is a powerful tool that allows for the simulation of mechanical behavior under functional loading, providing insights into stress patterns and implant performance in various anatomical and prosthetic configurations.
AIM: The aim of the st

This study aimed to analyze the stress distribution in single implant system and to evaluate the compatibility of an in vitro model with finite element (FE) model. The in vitro model consisted of Brånemark implant; multiunit set abutment of 5 mm height; metal-ceramic screw-retained crown, and polyurethane simulating the bone. Deformations were recorded in the peri-implant region in the mesial and distal aspects, after an axial 300 N load application at the center of the occlusal aspect of the crown, using strain gauges. This in vitro model was scanned with micro CT to design a three-dimensiona

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Implants in posterior regions of the jaw require short dental implants with long crown heights, leading to increased crown-to-implant ratios and mechanical stress. This can lead to fracture and screw loosening.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic nature and behavior of prosthetic components and preimplant bone and evaluate the effect of increased crown height space (CHS) and crown-to-implant ratio on stress concentrations under external oblique forces.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The severely resorbed bone of a posterior mandible site was modeled
