Youth insights on menstrual health and hygiene in Burkina Faso; a comparison of written versus spoken qualitative text.

Understanding girls' lived experiences with menstruation is essential yet can be challenging given the taboo nature of the topic. While diaries have not previously been employed as a data collection method among girls in this setting, the use of diaries could generate unique insights due to their private, reflective, and participant-led nature. Our study aimed to explore the menstrual health and hygiene experiences of schoolgirls in Burkina Faso, comparing diaries and in-person interviews, and to capture girls' thoughts on the process and value (or lack thereof) of diary writing. This study in

An Examination of Feedback Seeking in Individuals With Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or No History of Mental Disorder Using a Daily Diary Method.

This study examined excessive reassurance seeking (or positive feedback seeking; PFS) and negative feedback seeking (NFS) in individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), or no history of mental health difficulties. A 2-week daily diary method was used to examine potential group differences in the frequency, topics, and targets of PFS and NFS. The SAD and GAD groups reported significantly higher feedback seeking (FS) than the healthy group on self-report questionnaires. The most common targets of FS in each group were other people (e.g., romantic partner,

Intra-individual variability in voiding diaries of children with enuresis.

BACKGROUND: Children with enuresis are often requested to complete voiding diaries in the diagnostic process. There is no consensus on the optimal number of days of registration in the voiding diary that would allow correct patient characterization. OBJECTIVES: To examine the intra-individual variation in the parameters yielded from voiding diaries and evaluate if one week of registration is sufficient when evaluating the nocturnal urine production (NUP) and maximum voided volume (MVV) in children with monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE). METHODS: We analyzed 228 voiding diaries complet

Evaluation of topical ibuprofen cream in the treatment of acute ankle sprains.

One hundred patients who presented to the accident and emergency (A&E) department with an acute ankle sprain were entered into a study to determine the efficacy of topical ibuprofen cream by using a double-blind placebo controlled design in a single type of soft-tissue injury. The subjects were given either topical ibuprofen cream or a placebo cream in addition to the standard management of the department. Patients kept diaries recording walking ability and pain visual analogue scales for resting, standing and walking. A total of 51 patients returned diaries that were suitable for analysis. Pa

Investigating daily abusive supervision as antecedent of subordinates' low psychological detachment and relaxation during nonwork time: A diary study.

Recovery from work is highly relevant for employees, yet understanding the interpersonal antecedents of impaired recovery experiences remains unclear. Specifically, because former research neglected supervisor behaviors as a predictor of impaired recovery and abusive supervision is a core stressor, we examine daily abusive supervision as a predictor of subordinates' recovery experiences (i.e., psychological detachment and relaxation). We draw on research on the recovery paradox and propose that psychological detachment and relaxation will be impaired on days with high abusive supervision, alth

Current guidelines and treatment paradigms for nocturnal polyuria: A "NEW" disease state for US physicians, patients and payers.

Nocturia is one of the most bothersome symptoms encountered in urology, and its prevalence rises with age. Causes include both urological and non-urological aetiologies, often in combination. The effects of nocturia on a patient's quality of life can be detrimental. The initial approach to managing this condition includes appropriately classifying nocturia based on the results of a 24-hour bladder diary. Broadly, the categories under which nocturia can be classified include: low nocturnal or global bladder capacity, nocturnal polyuria, global polyuria and mixed.Based on the type of nocturia an

Measuring Coping Strategies in Daily Life: A Systematic Review of Experience Sampling Methodology and Daily Diary Studies.

Advances in daily diary methods and experience sampling method (ESM) have improved the study of coping strategies in daily life and their role in shaping health and well-being. In this review, we examine study designs, measurement approaches, and analytical practices used to investigate coping in natural contexts. We performed a systematic review of studies published before 5 December 2025 that used daily diary or ESM to measure coping strategies over multiple days or moments. Studies were examined with regard to sampling schemes, assessment frequency and duration, measurement of coping strate

Topical sodium cromoglycate in atopic dermatitis. A disappointing but informative trial.

Forty children with atopic eczema requiring topical steroids entered a double-blind group comparative study over 12 weeks and were randomized to either 4% sodium cromoglycate (SCG) in an oil-in-water cream or matching placebo cream. The eczema was evaluated on area charts for 20 parts of the body at five clinic visits. In addition, the families kept diaries on symptoms and treatment. After 3 weeks there were small but statistically significant decreases in severity scores recorded at the clinical visits in the SCG group compared with small increases in the placebo group. However, there were no

Associations Between Multiple Dimensions of Sleep and Mood During Early Adolescence: A Longitudinal Daily Diary Study.

Prior research has observed reciprocal associations between sleep and mood. However, these findings are primarily based on the examination of one or two aspects of sleep behaviors (e.g., duration, quality), neglecting how multiple dimensions of sleep (particularly indicators pertinent to adolescence, e.g., sleep variability) are linked to adolescent mood both daily and longitudinally. Drawing on a multidimensional framework for sleep, this study addressed the knowledge gap by examining the directionality of and differential effects for associations between multiple dimensions of sleep and mood

Oura Ring Behavioral Feedback Intervention for Alcohol Reduction in Young Adults: User Experience Evaluation of a Pilot Randomized Trial.

BACKGROUND: Wearable fitness technologies, like the Oura Ring (Oura Health Oy), provide physiological metrics, like sleep and heart rate data, to a growing user base of young adults. However, these technologies and connected mobile apps do not measure young adults' alcohol use that contributes to these metrics. Personalized feedback on the impact of alcohol on sleep and heart rate may boost motivation to reduce drinking among young adults. OBJECTIVE: For this pilot randomized controlled trial, we evaluated the acceptability, feasibility, and perceived effectiveness of a wearable personalized
