High-Fat Diet and Female Fertility.

The prevalence of obesity is high among reproductive-age women and is associated with impaired reproductive function. Obesity is multifactorial in origin, yet many cases of obesity result from overconsumption of a diet high in fat. Excess dietary fat increases both adipose and nonadipose tissue lipid content and, through lipotoxicity, leads to cell dysfunction and death. High dietary fat intake, with or without the development of obesity, impairs female hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis functionality and fertility. Based on the current evidence, it appears the reproductive dysfunction

A Suitable Diet for Recovery from Starvation Is a High-Fat Diet, but Not a High-Protein Diet, in Rats.

The present study aims to determine the most suitable dietary balance of energy-producing nutrients for recovery from starvation. Rats were fed their standard high- carbohydrate diet (HCD, carbohydrate energy : protein energy : fat energy=71 : 18 : 11) for 7 d and then deprived of food for 3 d (short-term starvation) or 8 d (long-term starvation). The starved rats were then fed the HCD, a high-protein diet (HPD, 31 : 57 : 12), or a high-fat diet (HFD, 34 : 14 : 52) for 8 d. Rats had ad libitum access to drinking water throughout the experimental period, including the starvation period. The ref

High fat high sucrose diet-induced dyslipidemia in guinea pigs.

Easy access to high-calorie and fat-dense fast food has resulted in unhealthy dietary and lifestyle changes worldwide, which affects both developed and developing economies. This predisposes populations to a considerable number of metabolic and inflammatory conditions, such as diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Guinea pigs have been proposed as a model to study high-fat diet-induced metabolic disease due to their similar antioxidant metabolism and lipid profile to humans, and their susceptibility to atherosclerosis and endothelial disease. Low-Carbohydrate High-Fat Diet: A SWOC Analysis.

Insulin resistance (IR) plays a role in the pathogenesis of many diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity, and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease. The ketogenic diet (KD) is a low-carbohydrate/high-fat diet that arose in the 1920s as an effective treatment for seizure control. Since then, the KD has been studied as a therapeutic approach for various IR-related disorders with successful results. To date, the use of the KD is still debatable regarding its safety. Some studies have acknowledged its useful

Views on high-fat diet linked insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance is linked to impaired cell metabolism and survival in the peripheral tissues, as well as increased oxidative stress and activated inflammatory responses. Chronic High fat diet insulin resistant to exposure results in liver damage, impaired glucose homeostasis, hyperinsulinemia, late pancreatic-cell failure to generate insulin due to cell exhaustion, and subsequent hyperglycaemia, all of which are hallmarks of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Therefore, it is of intrest to document a short review on the impact of a high-fat diet with insulin resistance.

High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity Enhances Allograft Rejection.

BACKGROUND: Obesity promotes a state of low-grade inflammation that exacerbates chronic inflammatory diseases, such as asthma and inflammatory bowel disease. In transplantation, the survival of organs transplanted into obese patients is reduced compared with allografts in lean recipients. However, whether this is due to increased alloimmunity remains to be addressed conclusively. METHODS: We used a mouse model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and assessed immune responses to allogeneic stimulation in vitro, allogeneic splenocyte immunization in vivo, and allogeneic heart transplantation

Paternal Cyanidin-3-O-Glucoside Diet Improved High-Fat, High-Fructose Diet-Induced Intergenerational Inheritance in Male Offspring's Susceptibility to High-Fat Diet-Induced Testicular and Sperm Damage.

High-fructose and high-fat diet (HFHFD) has been associated with impaired spermatogenesis, leading to decreased sperm quality and increased male infertility, with similar effects observed in offspring. Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), a recognized food antioxidant, has shown promise in protecting in male reproduction and modulating epigenetic modifications. However, its potential role in ameliorating intergenerational inheritance induced by HFHFD remains underexplored. In this study, we investigated the effects of paternal HFHFD on reproductive injury of offspring and the protective effect of C3G

High-fat diet combined with dextran sulfate sodium failed to induce a more serious NASH phenotype than high-fat diet alone.

Background and Aims: Animal models are essential tools to investigate the pathogenesis of diseases. Disruption in the intestinal epithelial barrier and gut vascular barrier is an early event in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Intestinal epithelial barrier can be destroyed by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) oral administration. High fat diet (HFD)-induced non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) rat model has been widely used. Recently, the combination of HFD with DSS induced NASH model has also been reported. The present study aimed to evaluate whether this composite NAS

The Impact of a High-Fat Diet on Eye Health.

Background: The increasing prevalence of high-fat diets is associated with a rise in metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. The retina and retinal pigment epithelium are metabolically active tissues exposed to oxidative stress, making them particularly vulnerable to lipid excess. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted covering years until 2025 inclusive. Results: High-fat diets lead to cholesterol accumulation and lipid metabolism disturbances in the retina, retinal pigment epithelium, and ocular vessels. They activate inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways,

Effects of a high-fat diet on rat epididymis.

The epididymis plays an essential role in reproduction, promoting sperm cell maturation. In this study, we investigated the effects of a high-fat diet (HFD) in the three regions of the epididymis of rats, including caput, corpus, and cauda. Our results showed an increase in malondialdehyde and a decrease in superoxide dismutase, which indicated an increase in oxidative stress in all segments of the epididymis. The cellular response mechanisms were mostly detected in the corpus/cauda regions, which showed an increase in apoptosis, probably for eliminating dysfunctional cells arising from HFD-in

Tff3 Deficiency Protects against Hepatic Fat Accumulation after Prolonged High-Fat Diet.

Trefoil factor 3 (Tff3) protein is a small secretory protein expressed on various mucosal surfaces and is involved in proper mucosal function and recovery via various mechanisms, including immune response. However, Tff3 is also found in the bloodstream and in various other tissues, including the liver. Its complete attenuation was observed as the most prominent event in the early phase of diabetes in the polygenic Tally Ho mouse model of diabesity. Since then, its role in metabolic processes has emerged. To elucidate the complex role of Tff3, we used a new Tff3-deficient mouse model without ad

The source of the fat significantly affects the results of high-fat diet intervention.

High-fat diet (HFD) is widely used in animal models of many diseases, it helps to understand the pathogenic mechanism of related diseases. Several dietary fats were commonly used in HFD, such as corn oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and lard. However, it was reported that different dietary fat could have completely different effects on physiological indicators and the gut microbiome, and the sources of dietary fat used in high-fat diet research have not been comprehensively compared. In this research, we conduct comparative experiments on various sources of dietary fats to test the

Genetics of responsiveness to high-fat and high-cholesterol diets in the mouse.

The natural variation among inbred strains of mice was used to elucidate the genetic factors underlying the responsiveness to high-fat and high-cholesterol diets. The nine strains examined are the progenitors of recombinant inbred strain sets: C57BL/6J, C57L/J, SWR/J, SJL/J, SM/J, A/J, AKR/J, C3H/HeJ, and DBA/2J. Plasma lipids, liver lipids, the prevalence of cholesterol gallstones, and the size of aortic fatty streak lesions were examined after 18 wk of consumption of the diet containing 15% fat and 1% cholesterol. The variation in aortic lesions found among inbred strains provided the basis

Diet for patients with a short bowel: high fat or high carbohydrate?

Eight patients with a short bowel resulting from intestinal resection and clinically stable for at least 6 mo were studied on two diets. Each diet was given for 5 days at a time and crossed over with the other. Both diets contained 20% of total calories as protein. The high-fat diet had 60% of calories as fat and 20% as carbohydrate. This ratio was reversed in the high-carbohydrate diet. Both diets were lactose free with low fiber. Fluid intake was kept constant. The results showed that there was no difference in the blood chemistry, stool, or ostomy volume, the zinc, calcium, and magnesium ba

fat-1 mice prevent high-fat plus high-sugar diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

High-fat and high-sugar (HFS) diets have been suggested to play a causal role in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to investigate whether fat-1 transgenic mice with a higher tissue content of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) could prevent HFS diet-induced NAFLD, compared with wild-type mice. The fat-1 and wild-type littermates had free access to a 15% fructose solution plus high-fat diet, a 15% glucose solution plus high-fat diet, or a 15% sucrose solution plus high-fat diet, respectively. Caloric intake, weight gain, biochemical parameters,

Neutrophil aging exacerbates high fat diet induced metabolic alterations.

BACKGROUND: High fat diet (HFD) chronically hyper-activates the myeloid cell precursors, but whether it affects the neutrophil aging is unknown. PURPOSE: We characterized how HFD impacts neutrophil aging, infiltration in metabolic tissues and if this aging, in turn, modulates the development of metabolic alterations. We immunophenotyped neutrophils and characterized the metabolic responses in physiology (wild-type mice, WT) and in mice with constitutively aged neutrophils (MRP8 driven conditional deletion of CXCR4; herein CXCR4fl/flCre+) or with constitutively fresh neutrophils (MRP8 driven c

Asiatic acid attenuates high-fat diet-induced impaired spermatogenesis.

Testicular cell apoptosis is associated with impaired spermatogenesis. It has been reported that Asiatic acid (AA) may suppress apoptosis. However, little is known about the effect of AA on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced impairment of spermatogenesis. The aim of the present study was to determine whether AA protects against HFD-induced impairment of spermatogenesis. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: Control group, HFD group and AA (50 mg/kg) + HFD group. Rats fed an HFD were orally administered with AA (50 mg/kg) daily for 12 weeks, and blood samples, testis and epididy
