Antiviral potential of diosmin against influenza A virus.

Influenza poses a global health threat. With drug-resistant strains emerging, there is an urgent need for effective antiviral drugs. This study explores antiviral potential of flavonoids against influenza A virus (IAV) and their mechanism of action. By utilizing in silico docking as a screening approach, diosmin, orientin, and fisetin were identified as flavonoids with the strongest interactions with viral proteins. Out of them, diosmin was found to effectively inhibit IAV replication in vitro, particularly at the attachment and post-entry stages, with significant inhibition observed at 0-h po

The Flavonoids Hesperidin and Diosmin: Adjuvant Therapy for Obesity.

The flavonoids are polyphenolic plant products, characterized by a 15-carbon skeleton which includes two benzene rings. Two active flavonoids, diosmin and hesperidin, are used as venotonic and vasculoprotective agents in clinical practice. They are indicated for the management of varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and haemorrhoids. They help improve circulatory tone, reduce inflammation, strengthen venous walls, and alleviate symptoms such as discomfort, pain and swelling. In this communication, we explore their potential use in obesity, especially obesity related oedema (obestasis).

Diosmin prophylaxis reduces gentamicin-induced kidney damage in rats.

Gentamicin is an essential aminoglycoside antibiotic, but it is only used to treat severe bacterial infections due to its high nephrotoxicity in patients. We evaluated the preventive effects of diosmin (as a natural ingredient) on gentamicin-related kidney damage in rats. In this research, 28 male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control, gentamicin (100 mg/kg (i.p.), daily for 1 week), gentamicin plus diosmin (50 mg/kg, p.o., daily for 2 weeks), and diosmin (50 mg/kg/day, p.o. for 2 weeks). After the final gavage, blood samples were collected for the determination of blood urea nitr

Combating atherosclerosis with targeted Diosmin nanoparticles-treated experimental diabetes.

Diabetes with poor glycemic control is accompanying with an increased risk of disease namely atherosclerotic cardiovascular. Diosmin (DSN), which is obtained from citrus fruit used to assist the treatment of hemorrhoids or chronic venous atherosclerosis diseases, has an antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic and anti-inflammatory effect. DSN is characterized by poor water solubility which limits its absorption by the gastrointestinal tract. To overcome this limitation, this study was designed to increase DSN bioavailability and solubility, through its loading on polymeric matrix; hydroxypropyl starch
