Postural drainage in the management of postoperative hyphaema.

We describe the technique of postural drainage of hyphaemas following trabeculectomy alone or when combined with lens extraction and intraocular lens implantation. This technique helps avoid surgical intervention and seems to have no short-term deleterious effect on bleb function.

[Study of postural drainage of children with obstructive lung disease].

According to the abnormal manifestation of the X-ray chest film, 90 cases were classified into regional shadow and diffuse volume increasing parts. The regional postural drainage method was adopted in the former, all directional postural drainage was performed in the latter. Each part of cases was classified into postural drainage plus ultrasonic aerosol inhalation group, ultrasonic aerosol inhalation and the control group. The results showed that there were significant differences among the parameters of the body temperature, coughing, stridor, rales and the chest film (P < 0.01). The therape

Alternatives to percussion and postural drainage. A review of mucus clearance therapies: percussion and postural drainage, autogenic drainage, positive expiratory pressure, flutter valve, intrapulmonary percussive ventilation, and high-frequency chest compression with the ThAIRapy Vest.

The purpose of this article is to review published studies on the efficacy of old and new mucus clearance techniques and to develop recommendations for different groups of patients. Mucus clearance is a problem in cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, and many other pulmonary conditions. Percussion and postural drainage (P & PD) was the traditional method of facilitating mucus clearance, but the many hazards and contraindications along with the onerous nature and resultant poor patient compliance of this procedure have led to the development of alternative therapies. Research studies with cystic fi

Clinical Research on Modified Postural Drainage for Secretion Clearance in Infants with Wheezing Bronchitis.

BACKGROUND: Wheezing bronchitis is common in infants and can lead to complications if not properly managed. Postural drainage is a standard technique for secretion clearance, but the optimal protocol remains debated. AIMS: This study aims to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of a modified postural drainage nursing protocol for secretion clearance in infants with wheezing bronchitis. METHODS: This prospective study included 104 infants (six months to three years) hospitalized with wheezing bronchitis between January 2023 and May 2024. Participants were randomly divided into two groups:

A human case of an azygos lobe: determining an anatomical basis for its therapeutic postural drainage.

An azygos lobe of the human lung is one of the most common lung malformations. However, there are only a few anatomical reports concerning the bronchial and blood supply to this lobe. We encountered the azygos lobe in an anatomical dissection course. The azygos lobe of this case was examined macroscopically and lung parenchyma, including alveoli, terminal bronchioles, and bronchial arteries and veins, was partially removed under a stereoscopic microscope. The azygos lobe was situated medial to the superior lobe and superior to the hilum of the right lung. The parietal pleura wrapped around the

Postural drainage and high flow nasal oxygen therapy in four cats with decompensated cardiogenic pulmonary oedema.

CASE SERIES SUMMARY: This case series describes four cats with decompensated congestive heart failure and fulminant cardiogenic pulmonary oedema (CPE) that did not respond to conventional treatment and oxygen therapy, and subsequently developed hypoxaemic respiratory failure. The cats were anaesthetised to enable endotracheal intubation, manually ventilated with 100% oxygen and postural drainage was performed immediately to evacuate pulmonary oedema. Afterwards, the cats were extubated and transitioned to high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO). HFNO allowed significant improvement in the respiration pa

Standard (head-down tilt) versus modified (without head-down tilt) postural drainage in infants and young children with cystic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Postural drainage is used primarily in infants with cystic fibrosis from diagnosis up to the moment when they are mature enough to actively participate in self-administered treatments. However, there is a risk of gastroesophageal reflux associated with this technique. This is an update of a review published in 2015. OBJECTIVES: To compare the effects of standard postural drainage (15º to 45º head-down tilt) with modified postural drainage (15º to 30º head-up tilt) with regard to gastroesophageal reflux in infants and young children up to six years old with cystic fibrosis in terms

Report on the clinical outcomes of using postural drainage with intervertebral space as the main focus for managing thoracolumbar tuberculosis: Eight case reports.

RATIONALE: Conservative treatment has shown limited effectiveness in managing thoracolumbar tuberculosis (TB) that extends to the intervertebral space, as antibiotics are unable to penetrate avascular intervertebral discs, while conventional surgery is known for its extensive trauma and slow healing process. PATIENT CONCERNS: Infection of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae with tuberculosis can lead to difficulties in treatment due to involvement of the intervertebral space. DIAGNOSIS: The diagnosis of TB was confirmed through clinical manifestations, impact studies, and T-spot experiments.

Three-month work-related musculoskeletal disorders assessment during manual lymphatic drainage in physiotherapists using Generic Postures notion.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this work was to quantify the postures and to assess the musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) risk in physiotherapists repeating a manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) over a three-month period. The underlying hypothesis was that there would be Generic Postures (GP) that would be repeated and could be used to more simply describe repetitive and long-duration complex activities. METHODS: The posture of five physiotherapists performing five 20-min MLD at their workplace was captured by two cameras. From the recordings, the adopted postures were extracted every 5 s and quantified t

Bronchial drainage prior to bronchography--a possible modification.

Bronchography results were studied in 110 cases between the ages of 14 and 68 years. In each case the mucolytic agent Carbocysteine was used to increase the effectiveness of postural drainage prior to bronchography. Insufficient filling of the bronchial tree occurred in only one case. These results suggest that Carbocysteine increases the effectiveness of postural drainage prior to bronchography and indicates the need for further careful controlled studies.
