Positive employment service - facilitating employment for people living with HIV.

As treatments and therapies develop and improve, enhancing life expectancy, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has been described by some as a long term chronic condition rather than an acute life threatening illness. As this change occurs, new issues become relevant for the person living with HIV, employment being one of these. In light of this, the Positive Employment Service was developed and implemented to explore and address some of the issues related to employment for people living with HIV. The original concept for the service was primarily focused on vocational rehabilitation; however,

Employer practices supporting sustainable employment of people with disabilities across the employment lifecycle: a scoping review of reviews.

PURPOSE: Although many studies have examined factors influencing employment outcomes for persons with disabilities (PWD), existing evidence remains fragmented and seldom integrates findings across the full employment lifecycle. This scoping review of reviews synthesizes barriers and facilitators to sustainable employment, identifying factors that inform inclusive workplace design and employer practices. METHODS: Scopus was searched up to April 30, 2026. Two reviewers independently assessed titles, abstracts, full texts, and quality. Evidence was organized along five stages of the employment l

Employer Experiences and Perspectives of Autistic Employees in Competitive Integrated Employment.

The present study explored how the Missouri Employer Perspectives Study examined employer perspectives of autistic employees in competitive integrated employment, their experience with autistic employees, and types of support and services needed to accommodate autistic employees. The Missouri Employer Perspectives Study conducted a cross-sectional online survey (Creswell in: Qualitative inquiry & research design: Choosing among five approaches, Sage, 2012). The survey included demographic measures (e.g., gender, ethnicity, length at position, industry-type, etc.), existing and researcher-devel

Employment Support Program in Cooperation With the Public Employment Service for Major Depressive Disorder: A Report of Two Cases With Employer Interviews.

People with common mental disorders often take recurrent sick leave and experience difficulty sustaining employment, highlighting the need for practical models linking clinical care to workplace support. The Employment Support Program in Cooperation With the Public Employment Service (ESPCP) is a psychiatric day care-based program delivered in partnership with public employment service officials. It combines an intensive, group-based Work Readiness Program with structured coordination with employers during job entry and after placement. We report two cases of patients with major depressive dis

Predictors of Acquisition of Competitive Employment for People Enrolled in Supported Employment Programs.

This study aims at assessing the relative contribution of employment specialist competencies working in supported employment (SE) programs and client variables in determining the likelihood of obtaining competitive employment. A total of 489 persons with a severe mental illness and 97 employment specialists working in 24 SE programs across three Canadian provinces were included in the study. Overall, 43% of the sample obtained competitive work. Both client variables and employment specialist competencies, while controlling for the quality of SE programs implementation, predicted job acquisitio

Frailty, prefrailty and employment outcomes in Health and Employment After Fifty (HEAF) Study.

OBJECTIVES: Demographic changes are requiring people to work longer. No previous studies, however, have focused on whether the 'frailty' phenotype (which predicts adverse events in the elderly) is associated with employment difficulties. To provide information, we assessed associations in the Health and Employment After Fifty Study, a population-based cohort of 50-65-year olds. METHODS: Subjects, who were recruited from 24 English general practices, completed a baseline questionnaire on 'prefrailty' and 'frailty' (adapted Fried criteria) and several work outcomes, including health-related job

Mixed Signals: The Effect of Employment Training on Employment Outcomes for Previously Incarcerated Individuals.

This work investigates the effects of pre-employment training on employment outcomes for previously incarcerated individuals using two theories developed in the discipline of economics: human capital theory and signaling theory. Human capital theory suggests that preemployment training increases wages and the likelihood of employment by building relevant skills that would improve productivity. Signaling theory asserts that the completion of pre-employment training acts as a signal of participant ability, as ability is known to the applicant but unknown to employers. Using the National Longitud

Pushing the Integrated Employment Agenda: Employment Systems Partners and the High-Performing States Model.

This article summarizes data collected from key informants in Iowa, Maryland, and Oklahoma regarding efforts to support integrated employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We highlight features that contribute to the effectiveness of collaborative structures that have resulted in each state's success in achieving integrated employment outcomes for individuals with IDD across three state systems: IDD, vocational rehabilitation, and education. We present these features using the seven elements of the High-Performing States Employment Model. These elements hav

[Impact of the obstructive sleep hypopnea-apnea syndrom treated on employment for military employment].

INTRODUCTION: The diurnal hypersomnia associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects soldier employment and deployability. In this study, we examined the impact of OSA on the employment of soldiers on continuous positive airways pressure (CPAP) therapy by measuring several items: work absenteeism using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire, diurnal hypersomnia, and career advancement. METHODS: A questionnaire was sent by regular mail to 940 soldiers with OSA on CPAP therapy who are insured by the French Military Healthcare Fund (Caisse Nationale Militaire d

Pushing the employment agenda: case study research of high performing States in integrated employment.

Organizational variables, including policies, practices, collaborations, and funding mechanisms resulting in high performance in integrated employment, were described through case study research in 3 states. Findings address how contextual factors, system-level strategies, and goals of the system are related as well as how they sustain systems change. Strategies such as flexibility in funding and practices; communication of values through data, rewards, and funding incentives; and innovation diffusion through relationships and training were most successful when they were embedded within the co

[Employment of safety net enclosures].

When medication and other interventions for challenging behaviour in people with dementia are insufficient, safety net enclosures are frequently used. It is a restrictive intervention with a limited number of available research studies. This article presents some data from an observational study that we have published recently. Finally, we discuss for which patient groups, in which settings, and under what conditions the use of safety net enclosures could be considered.

Photodynamic therapy--mechanism and employment.

Photodynamic terapy (PDT) is a new treatment for a wide variety of malignancies and premalignant dysplasias, as well as some non-cancer indications. Therapeutic response to PTD is achieved through the activation of non-toxic photosensitiser located within neoplastic tissue, using visible light tuned to the appropriate absorption band of the photosensitiser molecule. This produces cytotoxic free radical such as singlet oxigen, which result in local photo-oxidation, cell damage and destruction of the tumour cells. Systemic administration of photosensitisers has been used with endoscopic light ex

Employment after spinal cord injury.

A predictive model for employment after spinal cord injury was developed. The study population consisted of 154 spinal cord injured persons who were treated at our hospital between 1973 and 1979, and followed for seven years after injury. Demographic, social, and injury severity data were abstracted from each subject's hospital record. Motivation to work, employment history, and sources of postinjury financial support, were assessed by a vocational rehabilitation counselor. The study population was divided into four groups: persons continuously unemployed after injury, homemakers, students, an

Dispositional employability and self-regulation in antisocial and prosocial personalities: different contributions to employability.

The manuscript is based on the dispositional approach of employability, dispositional personality trait theories (dark triad, light triad, HEXACO honesty-humility), and reinforcement sensitivity theory. The facet-focused analysis allowed a more targeted interpretation of the results about the contribution of dark/light personalities and self-regulation for employability and a deeper understanding of practical implications. We analyzed the mediating effect of the behavioral activating system (BAS drive) on antisocial and prosocial traits in predicting employability. The convenient research samp

Employment outcomes in systemic sclerosis.

Work disability is highly prevalent in the systemic sclerosis (SSc) population; yet, it is an area of research that continues to be underrecognized and underexplored. In this chapter, we review the burden of this work disability by exploring the reported prevalence of work loss, the risk factors associated with reduced work participation, the impact on work productivity outcomes, and the economic consequences of work disability in individuals with SSc. Finally, we discuss the potential challenges in the workplace and strategies that may foster employment retention in this population. We subseq
