The objectives of this Clinical Expert Series on endometrial hyperplasia are to review the etiology and risk factors, histologic classification and subtypes, malignant progression risks, prevention options, and to outline both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options. Abnormal uterine and postmenopausal bleeding remain the hallmark of endometrial pathology, and up to 10-20% of postmenopausal bleeding will be either hyperplasia or cancer; thus, immediate evaluation of any abnormal bleeding with either tissue procurement for pathology or imaging should be undertaken. Although anyone with a ute

The various forms of endometrial hyperplasia are classified and a description given of their pathology and of their inter-relationships. The nosological status of endometrial adenocarcinoma in situ and the histological differentiation between hyperplasia with severe cellular atypia and endometrial adenocarcinoma are discussed. The aetiology and pathogenesis of the various endometrial hyperplasias are considered and grounds are given for the belief that glandular hyperplasia with cellular atypia is a form of intraendometrial neoplasia. A new terminology, based on the biological nature of the va

Endometrial hyperplasias can be divided into two categories based on the presence or absence of cytological atypia and further classified as simple or complex according to the extent of architectural abnormalities. They are usually diagnosed because of irregular bleeding in perimenopause. Hysteroscopy with a biopsy gives a more accurate diagnosis than transvaginal ultrasonography, sonohysterography, or blind curettage. Endometrial hyperplasias with no cytological atypia, regarded as a response to unopposed endogenous estrogenic stimulation, are normally treated with progestins. The intra-uteri

BACKGROUND: Endometrial cancer is one of the most common gynaecological cancers in the world. Rates of endometrial cancer are rising, in part because of rising obesity rates. Endometrial hyperplasia is a precancerous condition in women that can lead to endometrial cancer if left untreated. Endometrial hyperplasia occurs more commonly than endometrial cancer. Progesterone tablets currently used to treat women with endometrial hyperplasia are associated with adverse effects in up to 84% of women. UNLABELLED: Endometrial hyperplasia is a precursor to the most common gynecologic cancer diagnosed in women: endometrial cancer of endometrioid histology. It is most often diagnosed in postmenopausal women, but women at any age with unopposed estrogen from any source are at an increased risk for developing endometrial hyperplasia. Hyperplasia with cytologic atypia represents the greatest risk for progression to endometrial carcinoma and the presence of concomitant carcinoma in women with endometrial hyperplasia. Abnormal uterine bleeding is the most common presenting symptom of endometrial hyp

Endometrial atypical hyperplasia (EAH) is a premalignant condition with a substantial risk of progression to endometrial cancer (EC), with the endometrioid subtype being the most common. EAH is characterized by abnormal endometrial gland proliferation and cellular atypia, often resulting from prolonged unopposed estrogen exposure. This review aims to explore the clinical significance of EAH, its risk of progression to EC, and the current approaches to management. The risk of EAH progressing to EC ranges from 20 to 50%, influenced by factors such as histopathology and genetic mutations includin

Endometrial hyperplasia (EH) is the precursor lesion for endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the endometrium (EC), which represents the most common malignancy of the female reproductive tract in industrialized countries. The most important risk factor for the development of EH is chronic exposure to unopposed estrogen. Histopathologically, EH can be classified into EH without atypia (benign EH) and atypical EH/endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN). Clinical management ranges from surveillance or progestin therapy through to hysterectomy, depending on the risk of progression to or concomitant

Pseudoplacentational endometrial hyperplasia (PEH) and cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) are both hyperplastic conditions that may occur in the canine uterus during diestrus. CEH can impair fertility, and, although the consequences of PEH are poorly known, this condition is significantly associated with pyometra. The aim of this study was to investigate frequencies of both PEH and CEH in female dogs according to age, size, breed, and breed group. Uteri from 300 female dogs were sampled and processed for histopathologic analyses. Lesions were identified, and frequencies were statistically co

Resected uteri from a series of 48 consecutive patients with atypical endometrial hyperplasia ("carcinoma in situ") identified in curettings were studied to determine the frequency of associated adenocarcinoma. Thirty-nine of the women had received estrogen or oral contraceptives. Twelve uteri (25%) contained small superficial foci interpreted as well differentiated adenocarcinoma. Consideration of this observation together with the absence of adenocarcinoma in the extensive experience reported in other studies of women with atypical hyperplasia treated with progestogens alone shows a deficit

BACKGROUND: Platelets are blood elements thought to play a role in the immune system and therefore tumor development and metastasis. Platelet activation parameters such as mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and plateletcrit (PCT) can be easily evaluated with the whole blood count and have been studied as markers of systemic inflammatory responses in various cancer types. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the correlation between endometrial pathologies and MPV, PDW and PCT.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Hormone therapy has been palliative for advanced/ recurrent endometrial cancer. High remission rates are seen in well-selected stage I, grade 1 endometrial cancer of young women using hormone therapy (usually progestins) as fertility-preserving treatment. Many other hormones, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs (GnRHa), selective estrogen receptor modulators, aromatase inhibitors, intrauterine progestins, and others are potential modalities. This review updates the recent publications in this area.

OBJECTIVE: It has been reported that endometrial carcinoma has two pathogenic types; one with and the other without endometrial hyperplasia. The present study was done to clarify whether this was true in our series of a large number of Japanese patients.
METHODS: Three hundred and twenty-eight patients with endometrial carcinoma were classified into two groups, one coexisting endometrial hyperplasia (group 1; 182 cases) and the other having normal endometrium without endometrial hyperplasia (group 2; 107 cases). The clinical and pathological observations of the two groups were compared.

BACKGROUND: Endometrial cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women worldwide, and the fourth most common in high-income countries, where its incidence is increasing. Atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) is an overgrowth of the womb lining and can be a precursor of endometrial cancer. Between 14% and 25% of cases of endometrial cancer are diagnosed in premenopausal women. Due to delays in childbearing age and increasing obesity rates, a growing number of women wish to explore fertility-sparing management of endometrial cancer or AEH.
OBJECTIVES: To compare the effectiveness and safety o

Endometrial cancer is the fourth most common malignancy in women and the precursor lesion is endometrial hyperplasia. HOXA10 is a transcription factor that plays key roles in endometrial functions such as the endowment of receptivity, embryo implantation, and trophoblast invasion. Herein, using testicular transgenesis, we developed transgenic mice that expressed a shRNA against HOXA10 and there was a nearly 70% reduction in the expression of HOXA10 in these animals. We observed that downregulation of HOXA10 led to the development of endometrial hyperplasia in the young animals (3 months), and

UNLABELLED: Various benign processes in the endometrium are the cause of vascular changes. Endometrial cancer is also accompanied by changes in the density of microvessels. The detection of vascularization of the hyperplastic endometrium without signs of atypia, expressed significantly more than described in the literature, served as the basis for this work.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the state of the vascularization of the simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia and to compare the obtained results with literary data.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Vascularization of the endometrium in its simple hyp

Cystic lesions in the uteri of bitches and queens arise from the uterine serosa, myometrium, or endometrium and include: serosal inclusion cysts, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, cystic remnants of mesonephric ducts, and cysts associated with endometrial hyperplasia (both cystic glands and "pseudo-placentational" hyperplasia). Of these, "cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH)" is the most common and is frequently associated with pyometra. A second form of endometrial hyperplasia occurs in the bitch; although it was first described over 100 y ago, it is not widely recognized by clinicians or diag
