In recent years, various perioperative patient management programs have been proposed as "Enhanced recovery after surgery program" in order to improve patient prognosis. These programs are an evidence-based approach which does not use novel drugs or novel therapeutic intervention, but uses conventional medical therapy and skill. In the programs, primary outcome measure is "enhanced recovery after surgery", and secondary outcome measures are "reduced postoperative morbidity, improved safety, reduced hospital stay, and reduced cost". Specifically, early postoperative recovery will be carefully m

The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program is now widely applied in bariatric surgeries and other surgical procedures. The ERAS program in bariatric surgery consists of various components similar to that in colorectal surgery or other procedures. The major concept of the ERAS protocol relies on a multidisciplinary and multimodal approach to resolve various problems after surgical treatment. The key principles of the ERAS program in bariatric surgery include patient education, opioid-sparing multimodal pain management, prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting, goal-directed flui

BACKGROUND: The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) method is designed for the patient to recover quickly, have less pain and have a more comfortable period after the surgery; that includes preoperative, intra and postoperative processes. ERAS has been started to be applied in cesarean section surgeries as the patients need to recover quickly. In the literature, there is no study about the results of ERAS in cesarean section about pain scores and complications.
OBJECTIVES: It is aimed to compare the results of cesarean section patients using the ERAS method completely in patients who have

Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) refers to a patient centered, multidisciplinary team developed pathway aimed at reducing the surgical stress response and facilitating expedited patient postoperative recovery. These protocols have been largely developed in the general surgery literature and have led to vast improvements in the patient experience. ERAS protocols are generally substantiated on 3 phases along the continuum of surgical care: preadmission optimization, intraoperative treatment, and postoperative management. In this article, the evidence for ERAS development in craniomaxillofa

Enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery (ERAS) advocates for consistent and standardized delivery of evidenced-based perioperative care. Multidisciplinary teams deliver integrated patient care elements across all phases of care. Elements include risk-screening, prehabilitation, nutritional support, organ protection, patient blood management, early mobilization, optimal analgesia, and prevention of complications. Implementation of an ERAS program has been shown to improve patient recovery and reduce complications, length of stay, and resource utilization. However, the evidence is inconsistent a

Cardiac surgery carries substantial risks, particularly for an aging population with increased frailty, morbidity, and malnutrition. Prehabilitation and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols are emerging as essential strategies to optimize patients before surgery and accelerate postoperative recovery. In this review, we explore the role of prehabilitation and ERAS protocols in cardiac surgery, identify the challenges in implementing these strategies, and highlight areas for future research. Prehabilitation involves structured interventions such as physical conditioning, respiratory

In programs to enhance patient recovery after surgery, anesthesiologists play an important role. In conventional management, patients managed with the "starvation, stress, and drowning" regimen experience delays in the recovery process. In contrast, anesthesiologists in the current perioperative management scenario reduce the fasting period, maintain sufficient depth of anesthesia, and administer appropriate infusion levels. In particular, three major factors inhibiting postoperative recovery are known to be pain, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and immobility. To prevent these, anesthesiologist

Advances in cardiac surgical operative techniques and myocardial protection have dramatically improved outcomes in the past two decades. An unfortunate and unintended consequence is that 80% of the preventable morbidity and mortality following cardiac surgery now originates outside of the operating room. Our hope is that a renewed emphasis on evidence-based best practice and standardized perioperative care will reduce overall morbidity and mortality and improve patient-centric care. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a multimodal, multidisciplinary approach to optimize patient outcomes by minimizing surgical stress with the goal of returning to normal physiologic function. Using minimally invasive surgery as the preferred route for gynecologic surgery is an integral component of ERAS and is strongly correlated with improved postoperative outcomes. Implementation of ERAS programs in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery results in substantial improvements in clinical outcomes with higher rates of same-day discharge, reduction in postoperative nausea and vomiting, i

Surgical stress affects the physiology of nearly every organ system. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols counter these stressors to maintain normal physiology and promote postoperative recovery. In gynecologic surgery, ERAS pathways are associated with many postoperative benefits, including shorter length of stay, decreased pain, faster return of bowel function and both lower complication and readmission rates. This review highlights the current evidence and recommendations regarding postoperative ERAS pathways in gynecologic surgery.

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Society published guidelines for bariatric surgery reviewing the evidence and providing specific care recommendations. These guidelines emphasize preoperative nutrition, multimodal analgesia, postoperative nausea and vomiting prophylaxis, anesthetic technique, nutrition, and mobilization. Several studies have since evaluated these pathways, showing them to be safe and effective at decreasing hospital length of stay and postoperative nausea and vomiting. This article emphasizes anesthetic management in the perioperative period and outlines future directions,

THE PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: The analysis of the components of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in urologic surgery.
RECENT FINDINGS: ERAS protocols has been studied for over 20 years in different surgical procedures, mostly in colorectal surgery. The concept of improving patient care and reducing postoperative complications was also applied to major urologic surgery and especially procedure of radical cystectomy. This procedure is technically challenging, due to a major surgical resection and high postoperative complication rate that may reach 65%. Several clinical pathways wer
