Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Epimedium brevicornu Maxim Ethanol Extract.

Epimedium brevicornu Maxim has been used as a traditional herbal drug in China. In this study, the anti-inflammatory effects of E. brevicornu Maxim ethanol extract (EBME) were investigated in RAW264.7 macrophages and mice challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Results showed that EBME attenuated inflammation by decreasing the production of several proinflammatory mediators, such as nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin (PG) E2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and cyclooxygenase-2, in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. EBME increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and promoted the n

[Regulatory effect of Epimedium flavonoid microparticles on pulmonary pre-metastatic microenvironment].

Tumor metastasis is the main cause of death in clinical patients. The proposal of the pre-metastatic microenvironment hypothesis offers a new research direction for tumor metastasis. Targeting and inhibiting the activation of the stimulator of interferon genes(STING) signals by tumor cell-derived microparticles may help reduce tumor metastasis. This study constructed a pre-metastatic microenvironment and pulmonary metastasis model using recombinant adeno-associated virus vector-mediated short hairpin RNA interference of STING(rAAV STING shRNA) to investigate the effects of STING interference o

Epimedium brevicornum Maxim. Extract exhibits pigmentation by melanin biosynthesis and melanosome biogenesis/transfer.

Epimedium brevicornum Maxim. (Epimedii Folium) is a traditional medicine widely utilized in China for sexual dysfunction and osteoporosis treatment. Recently, studies have reported that Epimedium flavonoid icariin displayed hair growth and melanogenic ability by targeting tyrosinase activity. Nevertheless, icariin hydrolysate icariside II and icaritin cause depigmentation due to their tyrosinase inhibition. These pigment functional discrepancies from Epimedium constituents arouse our great interest. Then, this study focused on the pigmentation effects of Epimedii Folium extract (EFE) on melani

Immunostimulatory activity and structure-activity relationship of epimedin B from Epimedium brevicornu Maxim.

Epimedii Folium (EF, Epimedium brevicornu Maxim.), a traditional botanical drug, is famous for treating bone fractures, joint diseases, and several chronic illnesses. However, some studies indicated that EF could induce idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (IDILI) in the clinic. The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of various human diseases, including IDILI. In the present study, we showed that epimedin B could specifically facilitate nigericin- or ATP-induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation under synergistic induction of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species.
