An intention to use mobile applications for medical supplies and equipment ordering in clinics.

This research developed a mobile medical supplies and equipment ordering app (MMSEOA) model and attempted to validate it empirically. When customers (clinic doctors) make purchases on the app, two types of reasons can be identified: "reasons for" include enduring involvement (emotions), product description, and awareness (familiarity) while the "reasons against", were demonstrated as perceived risk and resistance to change (fear). This study aimed to strengthen and illuminate the most significant dimensions that enhance a doctor's understanding of MMSEOA and the intention to use it. Furthermor

Perception of neonatology staff regarding the availability of equipment and supplies for the care of patients in need of nCPAP.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is Mexico's second leading cause of neonatal mortality. The 75% reduction in mortality due to RDS has been attributed to the use of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP). A survey was conducted to determine the perception of the medical staff regarding the availability of nCPAP equipment and supplies in Mexican hospitals with neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). METHODS: We sent a survey via e-mail to several neonatologists in each state of the country, requesting only one response per hospital. We performed statistical analysis wi…

Assessment of the medical equipment supply chain in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a qualitative methods study.

BACKGROUND: Efforts to improve health-related supply chains in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have typically focused on medicines and vaccines, while medical equipment has often been either overlooked or considered incidental. While national guidance exists on the procurement, maintenance, and reporting on medical equipment, the extent to which these norms are implemented in practice is unclear. This study qualitatively assessed the design and operational functioning of the medical equipment system in the DRC, with a focus on information systems, procurement processes, maintenance, and

Review and assessment of policies and practices for spinal cord injury-related health care supplies, services, and mobility equipment reveal wide inequities and inadequacies in Canada.

INTRODUCTION: Canada maintains a universal, publicly funded health care system, although provinces and territories retain flexibility and independence in determining eligibility and funding levels for services and supplies. This flexibility and independence can lead to variability in health care delivery and therefore downstream health outcomes between provinces for the same health condition. Over 80,000 Canadians live with spinal cord injury (SCI), which causes motor paralysis and dysfunctions in multiple body systems. These dysfunctions are managed as multiple chronic health conditions to ma

Personal Protective Equipment Supply Chain: Lessons Learned from Recent Public Health Emergency Responses.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) that protects healthcare workers from infection is a critical component of infection control strategies in healthcare settings. During a public health emergency response, protecting healthcare workers from infectious disease is essential, given that they provide clinical care to those who fall ill, have a high risk of exposure, and need to be assured of occupational safety. Like most goods in the United States, the PPE market supply is based on demand. The US PPE supply chain has minimal ability to rapidly surge production, resulting in challenges to meeting

Staff experiences of providing maternity services in rural southern Tanzania - a focus on equipment, drug and supply issues.

BACKGROUND: The poor maintenance of equipment and inadequate supplies of drugs and other items contribute to the low quality of maternity services often found in rural settings in low- and middle-income countries, and raise the risk of adverse patient outcomes through delaying care provision. We aim to describe staff experiences of providing maternal and neonatal care in rural health facilities in Southern Tanzania, focusing on issues related to equipment, drugs and supplies. METHODS: Focus group discussions and in-depth interviews were conducted with different staff cadres from all facility

Preventing unintentional injuries to children in the home: a systematic review of the effectiveness of programmes supplying and/or installing home safety equipment.

In children under the age of five, the majority of unintentional injuries occur in the home, with higher levels of injury morbidity and mortality being found among those from more deprived backgrounds. This paper presents the findings of a systematic review about the effectiveness of programmes in decreasing unintentional injury rates to children (aged up to 15 years) in the home. The effectiveness of the provision of home safety equipment with or without installation, safety education or a home risk assessment is presented by outcome: injury rates, installation of smoke alarms and installatio

Minipool caprylic acid fractionation of plasma using disposable equipment: a practical method to enhance immunoglobulin supply in developing countries.

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is an essential plasma-derived medicine that is lacking in developing countries. IgG shortages leave immunodeficient patients without treatment, exposing them to devastating recurrent infections from local pathogens. A simple and practical method for producing IgG from normal or convalescent plasma collected in developing countries is needed to provide better, faster access to IgG for patients in need. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: IgG was purified from 10 consecutive minipools of 20 plasma donations collected in Egypt using single-use equipment. Plasma do

Barriers and facilitators to implementing reusable personal protective equipment in hospitals, and their impacts on environment, care safety, costs, and supply chain resilience: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Climate degradation poses a significant global health challenge, with healthcare systems paradoxically contributing to this issue while adhering to the principle of 'do no harm'. Notably, the healthcare sector accounts for a considerable share of greenhouse gas emissions in many industrialised countries, primarily due to the supply chain, including pharmaceuticals, disposable medical devices and personal protective equipment (PPE). The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this issue, with millions of tons of CO2 emissions attributed to single-use PPE. In response to the pandemic, some h

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is highly infectious agent that causes fatal respiratory illnesses, which is of great global public health concern. Currently, there is no effective vaccine for tackling this COVID19 pandemic where disease countermeasures rely upon preventing or slowing person-to-person transmission. Specifically, there is increasing efforts to prevent or reduce transmission to front-line healthcare workers (HCW). However, there is growing international concern regarding the shortage in supply chain of critical one-time-use personal and protective equipment (PPE). PPE are heat sensitive

Challenges and future opportunities to unlock the critical supply chain of personal and protective equipment (PPE) encompassing decontamination and reuse under emergency use authorization (EUA) conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic: Through a reflective circularity and sustainability lens.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and the resulting coronavirus disease (COVID-19), was declared a public health emergency of global concern by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the early months of 2020. There was a marked lack of knowledge to inform national pandemic response plans encompassing appropriate disease mitigation and preparation strategies to constrain and manage COVID-19. For example, the top 16 "most cited" papers published at the start of the pandemic on core knowledge gaps collectively constitute a staggering 29,393 citations. Albeit complex, a
