Evaluation of the ocular cytotoxicity of topical sevoflurane in sirc cells: An in vitro study.

INTRODUCTION: Sevoflurane (SF) has been reported to exhibit topical analgesic/antimicrobial effects. This study evaluated its cytotoxicity on the ocular surface by comparing SF with povidone-iodine (PI) and balanced saline solution (BSS) in an epithelial cell model. METHODS: Cytotoxicity was assessed using the Short-Time Exposure Test (OECD 491) on Seruminstitut Rabbit Cornea (SIRC) cells. Cultures were exposed for 5 min to SF (100 %), PI (5 %) or BSS and viability was determined by the MTT assay. Recovery at 0, 30, and 60 min and the effect of a double SF exposure were also evaluated. Evaluating the efficacy of topical steroids in idiopathic granulomatous mastitis: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Oral steroids are recommended as the first-line treatment for idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM), but frequently induce significant side effects. Topical steroid therapy has recently emerged as a potential alternative for IGM, however current evidence regarding the efficacy of topical steroids remains scarce, primarily derived from small case series and retrospective reports. This prospective, observational cohort study evaluated the outcomes of patients with IGM treated with topical steroids. METHODS: From January 2022 to October 2024, 76 patients diagnosed with IGM and trea

Potential combination topical therapy of anal fissure: development, evaluation, and clinical study†.

To treat anal fissure, internal anal sphincterotomy may be associated with surgical risks and incidence of incontinence. Botulinum toxin injection into the anal sphincter is invasive and expensive. Headache and hypotension hindered topical treatment with glyceryl trinitrate. Greater patient compliance, potentiated efficacy, reduced side effects, and lower cost are the major advantages offered by the combination therapy. Therefore, combination topical gels of nifedipine (NIF), lidocaine hydrochloride (LDH) and betamethasone valerate (BMV) were prepared and evaluated regarding viscosity, pH, dru

Multicentre study for the development of an in vivo model to evaluate the influence of topical formulations on irritation.

Although skin protective products to prevent irritant skin reactions are in wide use, neither standardized test models to prove differences in efficacy exist, nor has the quality or the reproducibility of results been evaluated in a multicentre approach. This should be mandatory when developing or testing skin care products. Therefore, we have designed a multicentre study in an approach to find a standardized test procedure for the evaluation of skin protective products. In this irritation study, a repeated short-time occlusive irritation test (ROIT) with a standardized protocol has been evalu

Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Topical Spironolactone versus Topical Minoxidil in the Treatment of Female Pattern Hair Loss: A Comparative, Clinical, and Trichoscopic Study.

BACKGROUND: Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is the most common hair loss disorder in women. Its origin is polygenic and multifactorial. Specific genetic factors predispose androgen receptors to be particularly sensitized so that they bind to circulating androgens, even with normal circulating levels. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this work was to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of topical spironolactone versus topical minoxidil in the treatment of FPHL. METHODS: This prospective, simple randomized, comparative study was conducted on 80 female patients with FPHL. They were divided into

Open-label pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of topical bimatoprost on rhododendrol-induced refractory leukoderma.

Rhododendrol (RD), 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanol, inhibits melanin synthesis and had been used in skin-whitening cosmetic products until 2013. However, some individuals developed leukoderma on the skin where RD had been applied and have suffered from refractory depigmentation even after discontinuing RD application. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin F2α analog and is often used for eyelash growth for cosmetic reasons as well as in the treatment of glaucoma. It was reported that bimatoprost induced skin pigmentation in addition to iris pigmentation as adverse effects. Therefore, we conducted an op

Real-world safety evaluation of topical corticosteroid use: A community pharmacy-based, prospective, observational study.

Considering the concerns about topical corticosteroid (TC) phobia that prevents necessary use of patients from using the necessary TCs, estimating the incidence and characteristics of adverse drug events (ADEs) related to TCs in the real world is warranted. However, limited study investigated them. This prospective observational study aimed to assess the utility patterns and safety data related to TC use and predisposing factors among community-dwelling population. We included and prospectively observed the TC users through nationwide multi-centre observational cohort based on community pharma
