PURPOSE: Sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SIJD), while being the primary contributor to low back pain, is still disregarded and treated as low back pain. Mulligan's Mobilization with Movement (MWM) Techniques and Core Stability Exercises (CSE) are often used to treat low back pain. There is not much evidence that it is effective in SIJD. To evaluate the effectiveness of CSE coupled with MWM (CSE + MWM) in the treatment of SIJD.
METHODS: 39 patients with SIJD were recruited and randomly divided into distinct groups as follows: control group (n = 13), CSE group (n = 13) and CSE + MWM group (n = 13

Knee ligament sprains are common during change-of-direction (COD) maneuvers in multidirectional team sports. This study aimed to compare the effects of an 8-week injury prevention exercise program containing COD-specific exercises and a similar program containing linear sprint exercises on injury- and performance-related variables during a 135° COD task. We hypothesized that the COD-specific training would lead to (H1) stronger reductions in biomechanical variables associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk during COD, i.e. knee abduction moment and angle, hip internal rotati

BACKGROUND: Exercise is a first-line treatment for chronic non-specific low back pain (CNSLBP). Exercise combined with specific breathing techniques have the potential to improve multifactorial outcomes. No previous studies, however, have compared outcomes between identical exercises with or without a specific breathing protocol in a uniform clinical study setting.
OBJECTIVES: 1) To investigate the feasibility of combining synchronized breathing with movement control exercises and evaluate eligibility criteria, randomization procedures, and dropout rates. 2) To study the preliminary efficacy

Mechanisms of coordination between breathing and movement during dynamic exercise are still a matter of debate. This study aimed to examine the degree of coordination between breathing and arm propulsion patterns and to compare the relative contribution of neuro-mechanical and chemical factors. Thirteen trained cross-country skiers performed constant submaximal 6-min roller skiing exercises on a motorized driven treadmill in two different poling techniques (V2A and V2 skating techniques) at two exercise intensity levels corresponding to the first and second ventilatory thresholds. The timing o

BACKGROUND: Training and rehabilitation techniques aiming at improving core muscle strength may result in increased dynamic stability of the equine vertebral column. A system of elastic resistance bands is suggested to provide proprioceptive feedback during motion to encourage recruitment of core abdominal and hindquarter musculature for improved dynamic stability.
OBJECTIVES: To quantify the effects of a specific resistance band system on back kinematics during trot in-hand and lungeing at beginning and end of a 4-week exercise programme.
STUDY DESIGN: Quantitative analysis of back movement

BACKGROUND: Peripheral arterial disease is a chronic obstructive disease of the arteries of the lower limb caused by atherosclerosis. The resultant decrease in blood flow can result in symptoms of pain in the lower limb on exercise known as intermittent claudication. Exercise induced pain is experienced in the calves, thigh or buttocks restricting activities of daily living and thus reducing quality of life.
METHODS: This study investigated lower limb movement variability in individuals with peripheral arterial disease-intermittent claudication (n=28) compared to individuals without periphera

Exercise echocardiography seems a relatively reliable diagnostic technique for evaluation of patients with coronary artery disease. The prognostic aspects of the stress echo have widely been documented with the use of various stressors (exercise, dipyridamole, dobutamine, pacing). Rapid atrial pacing echocardiography is highly specific and sensitive technique for the detection of the coronary disease, especially in patients who are unable to perform an active stress test. This technique minimizes the factors decreasing image quality during exercise (chest wall movements and hyperventilation).

BACKGROUND: Population aging has increased demand for scalable strategies supporting balance-oriented rehabilitation, fall-risk management, and functional independence in older adults. Pilates and technology-assisted exercise, including AR/VR, exergaming, motion-sensing exercise, telerehabilitation, and technology-delivered Pilates, may be relevant, but comparative evidence and older-adult applicability remain uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: To compare Pilates, technology-assisted exercise, technology-delivered Pilates, conventional exercise, and control for balance- and postural-control-related outcom

BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a leading cause of disability globally. Exercise therapies are one of the commonly prescribed treatment options for CLBP. The specific exercise therapies for CLBP most commonly target movement dysfunction, but seldom brain-based pain modulation. Exercise therapies with specific breathing techniques (SBTs) have been shown to influence and enhance brain-based structural and functional pain modulation.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the feasibility of the SBTs protocol, eligibility criteria, randomization, and dropout rates. To quantify the changes in

BACKGROUND: Although mat Pilates (MP) has become popular, the effects of MP in hypertensive women (HW) are not entirely clear. Here, we investigated the effects of 16 weeks of MP training contrasted with MP supplemented with aerobic exercise (MP+AE) and compared with a non-intervention group on autonomic modulation, cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, flexibility, performance of functional tasks, QOL, anthropometric variables, clinical BP, and heart rate.
METHODS: This is a three-arm, secondary analysis of an RCT. Sixty HW, aged 30 to 59 years, were allocated into: MP only (MP), MP+AE on a t

Background: Neurodynamic exercise is a common clinical practice used to restore neural dynamic balance. The order in which movements are performed during these exercises is believed to play a crucial role in their effectiveness. This study aimed to investigate the impact of different sequences of neurodynamic exercise on nerve root function, with a specific focus on the median nerve. Methods: Participants were assigned randomly to three experimental groups, each undergoing a different test sequence: standard, proximal-to-distal, and distal-to-proximal. Dermatomal somatosensory evoked potential

Comparisons of the beneficial effects of nature-based versus indoor physical activity have been extensively reported, but existing research addresses mainly aerobic activity (running, jogging), not resistance or mixed (aerobic and resistance) exercise. It is unclear if the psychological benefits extend to functionality, i.e., if participants perform their activities better in nature, and how movement is expressed in nature-based and indoor environments, during similar exercise. The present registered report was a randomized controlled trial investigating how engaging in similar resistance-base

BACKGROUND: Insightful feedback generation for daily home-based stroke rehabilitation is currently unavailable due to the inefficiency of exercise inspection done by therapists. We aim to produce a compact anomaly representation that allows a therapist to pay attention to only a few specific sections in a long exercise session record and boost their efficiency in feedback generation.
METHODS: This study proposes a data-driven technique to model a repetitive exercise using unsupervised phase learning on an artificial neural network and statistical learning on principal component analysis (PCA)

Physical exercise, aiming to improve range of movement, muscle strength and physical well being, lately substituted the immobilization previously prescribed in rheumatic diseases. International guidelines, recommendations of Scientific Societies, and structured reviews regard physical exercise as of pivotal importance in treating rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia syndrome, osteoporosis, and to be considered in connective tissue diseases. Therapeutic exercise should: aim to improve firstly local symptoms and then general health; respect the pain threshol
