Association of carbon disulfide with plants in the family Fabaceae.

We examined 40 taxa from nine genera within the subfamily Mimosoideae; 29 (73%) from six genera produced carbon disulfide (CS2). In addition, 19 of 40 taxa (48%) produced carbonyl sulfide (OCS). Of nine mimosoid taxa that produced CS2, all possessed a djenkolic acid and a cysteine lyase. Of three mimosoid taxa that did not produce CS2, two lacked a cysteine lyase and one lacked both a lyase and a djenkolic acid. Of 16 taxa from 14 genera from the other two subfamilies of the Fabaceae, the Caesalpinioideae and Papilionoideae, none produced CS2. The results suggest that CS2 production is common

Antiprotozoal activities of Millettia richardiana (Fabaceae) from Madagascar.

With at least 60% of the Millettia species (Fabaceae) being in medicinal use, we found it relevant to assess the potential antiprotozoal and antifungal activities of Millettia richardiana. Water and methanol crude extracts of the stem barks from M. richardiana and the six fractions resulting from the fractionation of the methanol extract were tested. The dichloromethane extracted fraction showed the best in vitro antiprotozoal activities (IC50=5.8 μg/mL against Plasmodium falciparum, 11.8 μg/mL against Leishmania donovani and 12.8 μg/mL against Trypanosoma brucei brucei) as well as low cytotox

Astragalus baimaensis (Fabaceae), a new species from Yunnan, China.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have indicated that creatinine (Cr)-based glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimating equations - including the new Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology creatinine (CKD-EPIcr) equation without race and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equation developed for the Chinese population - displayed suboptimal performance in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD), which limited their clinical application for detecting changes in GFR levels in all cohorts. OBJECTIVE: To develop a neural network model based on multilayer perceptron (M

Antioxidant responses of Annelids, Brassicaceae and Fabaceae to pollutants: a review.

Pollutants, such as Metal Trace Elements (MTEs) and organic compounds (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides), can impact DNA structure of living organisms and thus generate damage. For instance, cadmium is a well-known genotoxic and mechanisms explaining its clastogenicity are mainly indirect: inhibition of DNA repair mechanisms and/or induction of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Animal or vegetal cells use antioxidant defense systems to protect themselves against ROS produced during oxidative stress. Because tolerance of organisms depends, at least partially, on their ability to cope w
