BACKGROUND: While AI-generated feedback has been promoted as a supplement to teacher feedback, recent empirical studies have consistently revealed that students prefer teacher feedback to AI-generated feedback. It remains unclear whether such preferences reflect the inherent quality of the feedback or stem from psychological biases toward the feedback source. METHOD: This study investigates the existence of psychological biases towards teacher and AI-generated feedback. An experiment was conducted with 52 advanced learners of Chinese as a second language (CSL). The subjects were randomly divid

BACKGROUND: Feedback-informed treatment (FIT) involves using computerized routine outcome monitoring technology to alert therapists to cases that are not responding well to psychotherapy, prompting them to identify and resolve obstacles to improvement. In this study, we present the first health economic evaluation of FIT, compared to usual care, to enable decision makers to judge whether this approach represents a good investment for health systems.
METHODS: This randomised controlled trial included 2233 patients clustered within 77 therapists who were randomly assigned to a FIT group (n = 11

Blood pressure presentation mode and personality are likely to influence biofeedback outcome. Thirty-six normotensive subjects were randomly assigned to visual or auditory continuous systolic feedback. "Distracting speech" and "broad band noise" were also superimposed and the effect on the biofeedback response was investigated. Psychological influence was also investigated. Systolic pressure reduction of 4 +/- 4.3 mmHg (visual, p = .04) and 5 +/- 5.5 mmHg (visual + auditory, p = .03) were achieved compared with auditory feedback (2 +/- 4.7 mmHg), which was less effective. The addition of noise

BACKGROUND: Vocal skill acquisition is inherently "invisible": learners cannot directly observe the movements of their vocal organs, so traditional instruction depends heavily on the teacher's auditory judgment and metaphorical language. This leaves learners ill-equipped to detect errors and self-correct during independent practice. Spectral and acoustic visualization technologies-pitch-trajectory displays, spectrograms, formant analysis, and physiological biofeedback-can externalize this hidden process, yet systematic synthesis at the level of psychological mechanisms remains scarce.

Myoelectric prosthetic hands are typically controlled to move between discrete positions and do not provide sensory feedback to the user. In this work, we present and evaluate a closed-loop, continuous myoelectric prosthetic hand controller, that can continuously control the position of multiple degrees of freedom of a prosthesis while rendering proprioceptive feedback to the user via a haptic feedback armband. Twenty-eight participants without and ten participants with upper limb difference (ULD) were recruited to holistically evaluate the physical and psychological effects of the controller

A randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted to determine the efficacy of receiving feedback in a sample of maladaptive perfectionists. A total of 60 young adults were randomly assigned to a feedback intervention or control group. Hierarchical Linear Modeling was utilized to analyze the effects of perfectionism over time, as well as the effects of treatment condition on the relationship between perfectionism and outcomes. Measures of interest included emotional reactivity, self-esteem, and psychological distress. Findings revealed that providing feedback to maladaptive perfectionists

INTRODUCTION: Augmented reality (AR) is increasingly used in physical education, but little is known about learners' psychological responses to AR-assisted visual feedback in beginner golf instruction.
METHODS: This exploratory mixed-methods pilot study examined learner perceptions and preliminary pretest-posttest changes in learning motivation and perceived sources of self-efficacy. Twenty-four undergraduates completed an eight-week multicomponent AR-supported golf program, and six participated in semi-structured interviews. Learning motivation was assessed using ARCS dimensions, and perceiv

This convergent mixed-methods study examined how teacher and student perceptions of feedback align and diverge in Thai university EFL writing classes and which psychologically informed practices enhance feedback uptake. Conducted at a public university, the study involved 15 lecturers and 169 students (31 English majors and 138 non-English majors). Data were collected through two 25-item Likert-scale questionnaires, six teacher interviews, 69 student reflective journals, and 18 classroom observations. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric Kruskal-Walli

OBJECTIVES: Using feedback helps to improve psychological treatment outcomes, particularly for patients whose symptom trajectory is not-on-track. However, little is known about why some cases are not-on-track and what strategies can help to improve their treatment response. This study aimed to examine common obstacles and solutions identified by feedback-using therapists.
METHOD: A cohort of therapists (N = 10) used a feedback algorithm that classified cases as on-track or not-on-track using session-by-session measures of depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9) and anxiety (Generalized An

BACKGROUND: Adaptive AI-generated feedback (AIF) is increasingly integrated into higher education; however, its cognitive and psychological implications remain insufficiently understood, particularly in engineering education. Grounded in feedback intervention theory and emotion regulation theory, this study developed and tested an integrative model examining the perceived relationships between AIF, cognitive flexibility (CF), and academic psychological safety (APS), including mediating and moderating patterns.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 471 engineering students. Dat

BACKGROUND: Social media feedback, particularly likes and comments, has become an important source of social validation for young adults. However, the longitudinal effects of such feedback on psychological distress and the underlying psychological mechanisms remain unclear.
METHODS: This study employed a three-wave longitudinal design over eight months to examine the effects of social media likes and comments feedback on depressive and anxiety symptoms among 398 Chinese young adults (mean age = 21.34 years, 58.3% female). Cross-lagged panel models were used to test bidirectional relationships

Spinal cord injury (SCI) induces severe deficiencies in sensory-motor and autonomic functions and has a significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. There is currently no systematic rehabilitation technique assuring recovery of the neurological impairments caused by a complete SCI. Here, we report significant clinical improvement in a group of seven chronic SCI patients (six AIS A, one AIS B) following a 28-month, multi-step protocol that combined training with non-invasive brain-machine interfaces, visuo-tactile feedback and assisted locomotion. All patients recovered significant

Player protection has become an important area for the gambling industry over the past decade. A number of gambling regulators now require gambling operators to interact with customers if they suspect they are gambling in a problematic way. The present study provided insight on the impact of personalized feedback interventions (PFIs) on subsequent gambling behavior among a Dutch sample of real-world gamblers. Nederlandse Loterij (the national Dutch Lottery operator) provided access to a secondary dataset comprising tracking data from online casino and sports betting gamblers (N = 2,576) who we

Confidence in lineup responses is important in research and practice. Here we introduce the lineup confidence model, an extension of the well-validated two-high threshold eyewitness identification model. The two-high threshold eyewitness identification model serves to measure four cognitive processes underlying lineup responses: culprit-presence detection, culprit-absence detection, biased suspect selection and guessing-based selection. The lineup confidence model additionally incorporates the measurement of confidence. To validate the lineup confidence model, we conducted an experiment with a

One critical aspect of reward-feedback is the impact of local outcome history-how past experiences with choices and outcomes influences current behavior and neural activity. Yet, prior event-related potential work in this area has been contentious. This study contributes to this field by using time-frequency measures to better isolate constituent processes. Specifically, we identify how theta and delta are differentially sensitive to local outcome history. Participants completed a binary monetary choice task while we collected EEG data. Unbeknownst to them, trial outcomes were manipulated into

Substantial evidence indicates that feedback processing not only varies with the valence of feedback, but is also highly dependent on contextual factors. Even so, the influence of prior outcome history on current outcome evaluation is far from clear. To investigate this issue, we conducted two event-related potential (ERP) experiments using a modified gambling task whereby each trial was associated with two consequences. In experiment 1, two instances of feedback indicated participant performance on two dimensions of a single decision, within a trial. In experiment 2, participants made two dec

Feedback learning is thought to involve the dopamine system and its projection sites in the basal ganglia and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), regions associated with procedural learning. Under certain conditions, such as when feedback is delayed, feedback-locked activation is pronounced in the medial temporal lobe (MTL), which is associated with declarative learning. In event-related potential research, the feedback-related negativity (FRN) has been linked to immediate feedback processing, while the N170, possibly reflecting MTL activity, has been related to delayed feedback processing. In th

With the continued expansion of digital learning environments, gamified learning has been increasingly applied in higher education. This study examined how challenge and feedback in gamified learning are associated with college students' learning engagement and whether flow mediates these relationships. Based on the stimulus-organism-response framework, challenge and feedback were conceptualized as contextual stimuli, flow as the internal psychological state, and learning engagement as the response. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 355 college students from Chinese universities. Vali

Background and aims Personalized feedback interventions (PFI) have shown success as a low-cost, scalable intervention for reducing problematic and excessive consumption of alcohol. Recently, researchers have begun to apply PFI as an intervention method for problematic gambling behaviors. A systematic review of the literature on PFI as an intervention/prevention method for gambling behaviors was performed. Methods Studies were included if they met the following criteria: the design included both a PFI group and a comparison group, and the interventions focused on gambling prevention and/or redu
