Acute fenitrothion poisoning.

A technician was accidentally exposed to the organophosphorus insecticide fenitrothion and subsequently treated with pralidoxime for the autonomic, somatic and psychiatric manifestations of intoxication. Although long-term therapy with pralidoxime is not recommended, this patient required and obtained symptomatic benefit from its prolonged use. Erythrocytic and plasma cholinesterase activities had been monitored prior to exposure and were monitored throughout treatment and following recovery. Continual monitoring of cholinesterase activities of individuals occupationally exposed to organophosp

Molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction for the determination of fenitrothion in tomatoes.

Organophosphorus insecticides are widely employed in agriculture, and residues of them can remain after harvesting or storage. Pesticide residue control is an important task for ensuring food safety. Common chromatographic methods used in the determination of pesticide residues in food require clean-up and concentration steps prior to quantitation. While solid-phase extraction has been widely employed for this purpose, there is a need to improve selectivity. Due to their inherent biomimetic recognition systems, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) allow selectivity to be enhanced while keeping

Fenitrothion action at the endocannabinoid system leading to spermatotoxicity in Wistar rats.

Organophosphate (OP) compounds as anticholinesterase agents may secondarily act on diverse serine hydrolase targets, revealing unfavorable physiological effects including male reproductive toxicity. The present investigation proposes that fenitrothion (FNT, a major OP compound) acts on the endocannabinoid signaling system in male reproductive organs, thereby leading to spermatotoxicity (sperm deformity, underdevelopment, and reduced motility) in rats. FNT oxon (bioactive metabolite of FNT) preferentially inhibited the fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), an endocannabinoid anandamide (AEA) hydro

Development and application of ultrasound-assisted microextraction to analysis of fenitrothion in environmental samples.

A microextraction technique based on ultrasonic emulsification and demulsification was developed for detecting pesticides at trace levels in environmental water samples. In this ultrasound-assisted microextraction (UAME), chloroform was emulsified with an aqueous sample solution containing trace fenitrothion (MEP) by ultrasonic irradiation (48 kHz) for 5 min. The emulsion was then demulsified by ultrasonic irradiation (2.4 MHz) for 10 min. This resulted in phase separation of the water and chloroform without centrifugation. The demulsified chloroform was collected by a microsyringe and submitt

Effects of the organophosphorus insecticide fenitrothion on growth in five freshwater species of phytoplankton.

The acute toxicity of the insecticide fenitrothion was measured using four freshwater algae (Chlorella saccharophila, Chlorella vulgaris, Scenedesmus acutus, and Scenedesmus subspicatus) and one cyanobacteria (Pseudanabaena galeata). Insecticide concentrations eliciting 50% growth reduction over 96 hr (EC50) ranged from 0.84 to 11.9 mg/L. Fenitrothion was more toxic than other pesticides studied with the same algal species such as chlorsulfuron, molinate, and pyridaphenthion. The transformation of effective concentrations of fenitrothion and other pesticides obtained from toxicity measurements

Simple, selective and sensitive spectrophotometric determination of fenitrothion using novel chromogenic reagent.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

A facile, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of fenitrothion in its formulations, water, food grain and agriculture soil samples with newly synthesised reagent. The method was based on the alkaline hydrolysis of fenitrothion pesticide and resultant hydrolysed product of fenitrothion was coupled with diazotised 4,4'-methylene-bis-(p-amino-3'-hydroxybenzanilide) in basic medium to give orange coloured product having lambdamax 480 nm. The formation of coloured derivatives with the coupling agent is instantaneous and stable for 48 h. Beer's law was ob

Fenitrothion (Sumithion) Poisoning-Related Fasciculations Successfully Managed With Levetiracetam: A Case Report.

Fenitrothion is one of the most globally used organophosphorus pesticides, which can cause neurological symptoms, including involuntary movements. However, due to the limited number of case report, information on its treatment is also scarce. Here we presented a 74-year-old Japanese woman who was admitted to our hospital due to a persistent nausea and vomiting after ingesting 200 mL of 50% fenitrothion for a suicidal attempt. She received continuous intravenous infusion of atropine and 2-pyridine aldoxime methiodide under mechanical ventilation and continuous hemodiafiltration. However, she de

Epididymal phospholipidosis is a possible mechanism for spermatotoxicity induced by the organophosphorus insecticide fenitrothion in rats.

Fenitrothion (FNT) is used worldwide in agricultural and public health settings. Spermatogenesis is a toxicological target of FNT under high-dose exposure. Although anti-androgenic action is postulated to be the mechanism associated with this toxicity, few studies have examined histopathology of androgen-dependent male accessory sex organs. The present study aimed to reveal the effects of FNT on the accessory organs of rats exhibiting spermatotoxicity in the absence of testicular histopathological changes. Furthermore, a possible novel molecular target was clarified. Male Wistar rats were oral

Exposure to the Organophosphate Pesticide Fenitrothion Directly Induced Defects in Mouse Embryonic External Genitalia.

Many industrial chemicals have been reported as antiandrogenic substances. Exposure to these substances represents a potential risk to human health, particularly to the development of reproductive organs such as embryonic external genitalia (eExG). Currently, there is a need for more assay systems that can elucidate the toxicological actions and mechanisms of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. In this study, we show that the eExG slice culture assay is useful for the evaluation of the differing modes of action of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on urethra formation. We assessed the possible endocr

Analytical evaluation of the protection offered by sealed tractor cabins during crop pulverization with fenitrothion.

The practice of large-scale agriculture requires the use of pesticides in order to maximize production. This activity has gained increasing attention in recent years, especially from rural workers, due to the risks associated with long-term exposure to pesticides. To minimize these risks, personal protection equipment (e.g., covers, gloves, and goggles) and collective protection equipment (e.g., agricultural tractors with sealed cabins) have been developed. In general, these approaches are intended to reduce the contact of farmers and agricultural machinery operators with the more toxic and st

A novel application of carbon dots for colorimetric determination of fenitrothion insecticide based on the microextraction method.

In this work, the intrinsic colorimetric property of carbon dots (CDs) was utilized for the determination of fenitrothion by applying dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) method. Label free CDs are extracted into carbon tetrachloride via assistance of trioctylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat 336), which also acts as a disperser agent in this technique. The enriched CDs show an absorption signal at 365nm, which increases in the presence of fenitrothion. The absorbance increase of CDs in organic phase was used as an analytical signal for the determination of fenitrothion. The synthes

Cholinesterase response in native birds exposed to fenitrothion during locust control operations in eastern Australia.

Huge aggregations of flightless locust nymphs pose a serious threat to agriculture when they reach plague proportions but provide a very visible and nutritious resource for native birds. Locust outbreaks occur in spring and summer months in semiarid regions of Australia. Fenitrothion, an organophosphate pesticide, is sprayed aerially to control locust plagues. To evaluate fenitrothion exposure in birds attending locust outbreaks, we measured total plasma cholinesterase (ChE), butrylcholinesterase (BChE), and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities in four avian species captured pre- and postfen

Simple dual-readout immunosensor based on phosphate-triggered and potassium permanganate for visual detection of fenitrothion.

Multicolor-based visual immunosensor is a promising tool for rapid analysis without the use of bulky instruments. Herein, an anti-fenitrothion nanobody-alkaline phosphatase fusion protein (VHHjd8-ALP) was employed to develop a multicolor visual immunosensor (MVIS) and a ratiometric fluorescence MVIS (RFMVIS, respectively). After one-step competitive immunoassay, the VHHjd8-ALP bound to microplate catalyzed phenyl phosphate disodium salt (ArP) into phenol. Under high alkaline condition (pH 12), the phenol reduced KMnO4 to intermediate (K2MnO4) and further to MnO2 in alkaline condition (pH 12),

Application of fenitrothion on Heteropneustes fossilis causes alteration in morphology of erythrocytes via modifying hematological parameters.

In Bangladesh, the extensive use of fenitrothion on crops and in aquaculture ponds inevitably threatens a range of aquaculture species, including fish, owing to stress responses and physiological disturbances. The present study elucidated the potential toxic effects of fenitrothion on the blood biomarkers (haemato-biochemistry and structure of erythrocytes) of stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis), a commercially significant aquaculture species. Fish were exposed to four sub-lethal concentrations (0%, 10%, 20%, and 40% of the 96-h LC50 value) of fenitrothion in triplicate and observed on

Protective effect of N-acetylcysteine on fenitrothion-induced toxicity: The antioxidant status and metabolizing enzymes expression in rats.

The existence of fenitrothion (FNT) in the soil, water, and food products has harmful effects on non-target organisms. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the hepatotoxic, nephrotoxic and neurotoxic effects of FNT and the possible ameliorative effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a precursor of intracellular GSH, on FNT-induced toxicity. For this purpose, thirty-two adult male albino rats were allocated into control group and groups treated with NAC (200 mg/kg), FNT (10 mg/kg) and FNT + NAC via gastric tube daily for 28 days. FNT intoxication significantly reduced food intake, water i
