IND-6, a highly divergent IND-type metallo-beta-lactamase from Chryseobacterium indologenes strain 597 isolated in Burkina Faso.

The genus Chryseobacterium and other genera belonging to the family Flavobacteriaceae include organisms that can behave as human pathogens and are known to cause different kinds of infections. Several species of Flavobacteriaceae, including Chryseobacterium indologenes, are naturally resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics (including carbapenems), due to the production of a resident metallo-beta-lactamase. Although C. indologenes presently constitutes a limited clinical threat, the incidence of infections caused by this organism is increasing in some settings, where isolates that exhibit multidru

[Myroides odoratimimus, a rare cause of soft tissue infection and osteomyelitis. Case report].

Infections due to Gram-negative bacteria of the genus Myroides are very rare and generally affect the skin and soft tissues of patients with some degree of immunocompromise. We present a case of a 23-year-old patient with a history of myelomeningocele surgically resolved at 3 years of age and bot foot, who presented with a deep infection of the right lower extremity by Myroides odoratimimus. The species identification was carried out with MALDI-TOF and the treatment was initially carried out with meropenem and finally then ciprofloxacin, in addition to right supramaleolar amputation.

Mortality Risk and Antibiotic Therapy for Patients with Infections Caused by Elizabethkingia Species-A Meta-Analysis.

Background and Objectives: Patients with infections caused by Elizabethkingia species require prompt identification and effective antibiotic treatment since these spp. are typically resistant to multiple antibiotics and variable susceptibility patterns. Understanding the mortality risk of this disease is difficult because of the relatively low incidence of infections caused by Elizabethkingia spp. and the lack of published systematic evaluations of the risk factors for mortality. The aim of the present study was to investigate risk factors for mortality in patients with infections caused by El

Infection of recurrent calcaneal ulcer caused by a biofilm-producer Myroides odoratimimus strain.

We report a case of recurrent post-traumatic ulcer infection due to Myroides odoratimimus in an immunocompromised male. We have also reviewed the medical literature on isolated M. odoratimimus infections. The strain, isolated from ulcer discharge, was multidrug-resistant and treatment with meropenem, based on susceptibility testing, led to resolution of infection. The strain was also able to form a relevant amount of biofilm over time, thus suggesting a possible role of sessile communities in the chronicization of infection. To our knowledge, this is the first description of recurrent ulcer in

Synergistic pathogenicity of Elizabethkingia miricola and Klebsiella pneumoniae in black-spotted frogs and the prophylactic efficacy of a novel herbal composite.

The black-spotted frog (Pelophylax nigromaculatus) is an ecologically and commercially important aquaculture species in China. However, intensive farming has escalated its vulnerability to diseases, particularly meningitis (torticollis-cataract syndrome). In August 2023, a severe disease outbreak characterized by neurological symptoms occurred on a frog farm in Huanggang (Hubei Province, China; 30.45° N, 114.08° E). In this study, Elizabethkingia miricola and Klebsiella pneumoniae were identified as co-pathogens from the kidney tissues of moribund frogs. Taxonomic confirmation and virulence ch

Phylogenomics analysis of multidrug-resistant Elizabethkingia anophelis in industrial wastewater treatment plant.

AIMS: This study investigated the phylogenetic relatedness of multidrug-resistant Elizabethkingia anophelis recovered from an industrial wastewater treatment plant (WWTPi). METHODS AND RESULTS: The wastewater samples were plated in brain heart infusion agar (4 mg/L ceftazidime, 8 mg/L meropenem, and 2 mg/L polimixin). Four isolates recovered from four stages of WWTPi (influent, aeration, decantation, and treated effluent) were identified and evaluated of susceptibility profiles in the VITEK 2 system. These strains identified as E. meningoseptica were confirmed to be E. anophelis by whole geno

Myroides odoratimimus soft tissue infection in an immunocompetent child following a pig bite: case report and literature review.

Members of the genus Myroides are aerobic Gram-negative bacteria that are common in environmental sources, but are not components of the normal human microflora. Myroides organisms behave as low-grade opportunistic pathogens, causing infections in severely immunocompromised patients and rarely, in immunocompetent hosts. A case of Myroides odoratimimus cellulitis following a pig bite in an immunocompetent child is presented, and the medical literature on Myroides spp. soft tissue infections is reviewed.

Elizabethkingia meningoseptica: An Uncommon Cause of Peritonitis In Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Peritonitis is a major complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and due to its gravity, it remains the primary reason to switch from PD to hemodialysis. Elizabethkingia meningoseptica, a non-fermentative Gram-negative bacillus, is rarely encountered as a pathogen causing peritonitis in adults. We present here a case report of an acquired infection with this organism in adult on PD. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of infection with this organism in a continuous ambulatory PD patient in Tunisia.

A longitudinal study of the infant nasopharyngeal microbiota: The effects of age, illness and antibiotic use in a cohort of South East Asian children.

A longitudinal study was undertaken in infants living in the Maela refugee camp on the Thailand-Myanmar border between 2007 and 2010. Nasopharyngeal swabs were collected monthly, from birth to 24 months of age, with additional swabs taken if the infant was diagnosed with pneumonia according to WHO clinical criteria. At the time of collection, swabs were cultured for Streptococcus pneumoniae and multiple serotype carriage was assessed. The bacterial 16S rRNA gene profiles of 544 swabs from 21 infants were analysed to see how the microbiota changes with age, respiratory infection, antibiotic con

Neonatal Elizabethkingia anophelis meningitis originating from the water reservoir of an automated infant milk dispenser, the Netherlands, February 2024.

Elizabethkingia anophelis is a multidrug-resistant pathogen causing high mortality and morbidity in adults with comorbidities and neonates. We report a Dutch case of E. anophelis meningitis in a neonate, clonally related to samples taken from an automated infant milk dispenser located at the family's residence. We inform about the emergence of E. anophelis and suggest molecular surveillance in hospitals and other health settings. This is the first case connecting an automated formula dispenser to an invasive infection in a neonate.

Outbreaks of Elizabethkingia miricola Caused Fatal Meningitis-Like Disease in Cultured Bullfrogs.

Elizabethkingia miricola is an emerging nosocomial pathogen responsible for meningitis, sepsis, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, and joint infection in humans. These pathogens were also reported to be causal agents for meningitis-like disease in cultured frogs, which displayed high infectivity, mortality, and significant loss. In July 2023, 10 outbreaks of infectious meningitis-like disease in bullfrogs occurred in Tangshan area. To determine the causal agent, 70 diseased frogs from 10 farms were collected for etiological identification. Gram-negative bacilli were isolated from the brain an
