Hydrazone-hydrazide-based linkers perform a crucial role in environmental as well as biological fields. Such linkers are employed to detect exact metal ions at a minute level; hence, numerous probes are available. Even though thiophene-based molecules have a unique position in the medicinal arena, only very few chemosensors are reported based on such a moiety. In this current work, a novel hydrazide-hydrazone-based fluorogenic molecule 5-bromo-2-hydroxy-N'-[(1E)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)ethylidene]benzohydrazide (L) has been successfully designed and synthesized. The sensing studies of L demonstrated

The sensitive and selective detection of nitroaromatic compounds remains a significant area of research due to environmental concerns and security risks. Herein, we report a series of novel phenanthro-imidazole-based fluorescent chemosensors (6a-h) capable of dual detection of lead azide (LA) and nitroaromatic compounds. The developed chemosensors exhibit strong fluorescence quenching in the presence of quencher molecules (TNP, PNT, LA), making them highly sensitive detection tools. All the synthesized compounds were characterized meticulously via various spectroscopic and spectrometric techni

In this study, a coumarin-based Schiff base (1) was designed and synthesized as a Zn2+-selective fluorescent chemosensor based on the PET mechanism. The structure of compound 1 was characterized by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The fluorescence properties of this chemosensor toward various metal ions were explored by fluorescence and UV-vis spectra. The results indicated that the chemosensor had high selectivity toward Zn2+ over other coexisting metal ions. The binding stoichiometry of 1 toward Zn2+ was determined to be 1:1 by Job's plot. Furthermore, the chemosensor was reversible for Zn2+ in an ethano

Compound 1, a new fluorescent chemosensor signaling via significantly enhanced fluorescence when bound with cation analytes, was synthesized and characterized. This fluorescent chemosensor exhibits its selectivity to Cd2+ among a series of cations in HEPES buffer solution. Its in vitro sensitivity to Cd2+ was demonstrated in the HK-2 cell line with use of confocal microscopy. The mechanistic selectivity and sensitivity of compound 1 to Cd2+ was discussed on the basis of fluorescence, 1H NMR, and mass spectroscopic results.

Organoarsenics are low-toxicity compounds that are used widely as feed additives to promote livestock growth, enhance meat pigmentation, and fight against intestinal parasites. The organoarsenic compounds are commonly found in poultry waste and the degradation of organoarsenic produces the toxic carcinogen inorganic arsenic such as As(V) and As(III), which results in severe arsenic pollution of soil and groundwater. As a consequence, there exists a high necessity to develop suitable sensing methods for the trace detection and quantification of organoarsenic feed additives in wastewater. Among

A novel fluorescent chemosensor naphthyridine-boronic acid derivative (1.1) was synthesized and its ability to act as a selective chemosensor was examined for various metal ions. Compound 1.1 displayed highly selective fluorescence quenching upon interaction with Hg2+, possibly by means of photo induced electron transfer (PET) mechanism. The binding stoichiometry of the naphthyridine-boronic acid-Hg2+ complex and the association constant was determined. It was found that in the presence of d-fructose at physiological concentration, the sensitivity of chemosensor 1.1 towards Hg2+ improved by at

Naphthalimide derivative (compound 1) containing hydrophilic hexanoic acid group was synthesized and used to recognize Hg(2+) in aqueous solution. The fluorescence enhancement of 1 is attributed to the formation of a complex between 1 and Hg(2+) by 1:1 complex ratio (K=2.08×10(5)), which has been utilized as the basis of fabrication of the Hg(2+)-sensitive fluorescent chemosensor. The comparison of this method with some other fluorescence methods for the determination of Hg(2+) indicated that the method can be applied in aqueous solution rather than organic solution. The analytical performance

A terpyridine based compound L1 was designed and synthesized as an "off-on" chemosensor for the detection of Zn2+. Chemosensor L1 showed excellent selectivity and sensitivity toward Zn2+ by exhibiting a large fluorescence enhancement (∼51-fold) at 370 nm whereas other competitive metal ions did not show any noticeable change in the emission spectra of chemosensor L1. The chemosensor (L1) was shown to detect Zn2+ ions down to 9.76 μM at pH 7.4. However, chemosensor L1 binds Zn2+ in a 1 : 2 ratio (receptor : metal) with an association constant of 1.85 × 104 (R2 = 0.993) and this 1 : 2 stoichiome

A general synthetic method was improved to synthesize a chemosensor based on a tripodal Bodipy (t-BODIPY) structure. The product and its intermediate products were successfully prepared and fully characterized. The metal ion sensing performance of the tripodal compound was evaluated by UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. According to the obtained data, t-BODIPY is a selective and sensitive fluorescence probe for detection of Cu2+ ions in the presence and in the absence of competing ions. This chemosensor presents relatively a low detection limit of 5.4×10-7 M for Cu2+. Bio-imaging studies

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) plays an important role as a signaling compound (gasotransmitter) in living systems. However, the development of an efficient imaging chemosensor of H2S in live animals is a challenging field for chemists. Herein, a novel peptide-based fluorescence chemosensor L-Cu was designed and synthesized on the basis of the copper chelating with the peptide ligand (FITC-Ahx-Ser-Pro-Gly-His-NH2, L), and its H2S sensing ability has been evaluated both in living cells and zebrafish. The peptide backbone and Cu2+-removal sensing mechanism are used to deliver rapid response time, high s

The naphthyl-appended chemosensors 5-7 based on thiacalix[4]arene of cone and 1,3-alternate conformations have been synthesized which show high selectivity toward CN(-) ions by using hydrogen bonding and displacement approach. The presence of CN(-) induces quenching of fluorescence emission of compound 5 and ratiometric fluorescence behaviour of compounds 6 and 7 through hydrogen bonding interactions. Further, chemosensors 5-7 show high affinity for Fe(3+) ions with quenching of fluorescence emission, among all the metal ions tested. The 'in situ' prepared iron complexes of compounds 5-7 shows

Ion-induced change in fluorescence is a straight-forward method for detection of toxic metal ions showing immediate response. Cadmium ions are toxic to the environment. We report in this paper a piperidine-4-one-based fluorescent chemosensor of Cd2+ ions, designed and synthesized by a simple method. The compound is characterized using infra-red (IR) and 1 H-NMR spectral techniques. The chemosensor showed Cd2+ ion selectivity and sensitivity in aqueous solution. The stoichiometry and the binding constants were determined using fluorescence spectroscopy. Piperidine-4-one shows a 1:1 stoichiometr

A novel diarylethene-based fluorescent chemosensor containing a quinoline unit (1o) had been designed and synthesized. 1o showed good photochromic ability and fluorescence switching properties by alternating UV/vis light irradiation. The chemosensor showed high "Turn-off" fluorescent selectivity for Hg2+ by competitive tests of the fluorescence reaction in the presence other ions in acetonitrile solution. The stoichiometry between the compound 1o and Hg2+ was 1:1 by Job's plot curve and HRMS analysis. In addition, the LOD for Hg2+ was calculated as 60 nM. The fluorescence emission can be back

Chromium occurs in the environment primarily in two valence states, trivalent Cr3+ and hexavalent Cr6+, which have different physicochemical and biochemical properties. However, the higher concentration of Cr3+/6+ can cause various adverse effects on human health. Therefore, detecting Cr3+/6+ ions is important in various samples. Colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensors are the most powerful tools for the detection of Cr3+/6+ ions. These chemosensors have excellent bioimaging capability and significant sensitivity and selectivity. In this article, different colorimetric and fluorescent chemos

A novel series colorimetric and off-on fluorescent chemosensors (2a, 2b, 2c) were designed and synthesized, which showed reversible and highly selective and sensitive recognition toward Fe(3+) over other examined metal ions. Upon addition of Fe(3+), sensors (2a, 2b) exhibit remarkably and 2c exhibits moderate enhanced absorbance intensity and color change from colorless to pink in CH(3)OH-H(2)O(1:1, v/v). The three compounds (2a, 2b, 2c) may therefore be applicable as rhodamine-based turn-on type fluorescent chemosensors.

Developing a sample fluorescent sensor without modification of fluorophores with specific CO2-responsive groups for high efficient CO2 detection presents considerable technical challenges, particularly for room-temperature detection. Herein, an innovative fluorescent turn-on chemosensor based on amino- and hydroxyl-comodified carbon nitride nanodots (CNNDs) was developed, which exhibited remarkable room-temperature CO2 detection performance without introducing any other organic compounds. This impressive performance was attributed to the dissolution of CO2 in water to form H2CO3 and the ionize

A new Near InfraRed (NIR) fluorescent chemosensor for metal ions and anions is herein presented. The fluorophore is based on a styrylflavylium dye, a synthetic analogue of the natural anthocyanin family, with a di-(2-picolyl)amine (DPA) moiety as the metal chelating unit. The substitution pattern of the styrylflavylium core (with tertiary amines on positions 7 and 4') shifts the optical properties of the dye towards the NIR region of the electronic spectra, due to a strong push-pull character over the π-conjugated system. The NIR chemosensor is highly sensitive to the presence of Zn2+, which i

We introduce a novel selenium-based compound [N-(Phenylcarbamoselenoyl) furan-2-carboxamide] for the optical and fluorimetric detection of Hg in an aqueous medium. The synthesized compound was characterized by different spectroscopic methods. The designed chemosensor FSU has shown a significant fluorescence quenching when Hg2+ ions were added to the sensing medium. Furthermore, Hg2+ ions provoked a 2:1 complex formation with the chemosensor FSU. It is found that the compound offers high selectivity over a variety of cations such as Co2+, Cr3+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Mg2+, Hg2+, Cd2+, Ca2+, Mn2+, Ga
