Odontic surgery necessitates the very frequent use of additional auxiliary therapy to improve the post-operative symptoms. In fact the injured tissues respond to such surgical operations generally with an infiltrative-type process which is manifested predominantly by pain, pyrexia, oedema and in the more serious cases with total functional incapacity. The therapy for such symptomatology usually consists of NSAID, steroidal anti-inflammatories and/or chemotherapy. The scope of this research was to verify the possibility of utilising, exclusively, a potent non steroidal antiinflammatory whilst e

Data from 58 premarketing studies of the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug flurbiprofen were pooled for analyses of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). These studies included 5602 patients treated with flurbiprofen (N = 4123), aspirin (N = 1033), or placebo (N = 446) for varying durations. Diagnoses included rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other painful musculoskeletal conditions. In these studies serious upper gastrointestinal ADRs occurred in flurbiprofen-treated patients at less than one half the rate seen in aspirin-treated patients. The incidence of serious urinary tract ADRs was lo

The analgesic effect of flurbiprofen, aspirin and placebo in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea was compared in 41 patients using a double blind triple crossover study. No statistically significant differences were found between any pair of treatments and the control for pain relief. Thirty patients had assessments for all three treatment months, 11 preferred flurbiprofen, 9 preferred placebo, 6 preferred aspirin and 4 had no preference between any of the treatments. Side effects were reported by 14 of the 41 patients: 3 during the control month, 6 during the flurbiprofen month, 4 during t

The buccal absorption of flurbiprofen was studied in normal men to quantify the transport from the oral cavity in humans and to evaluate the closed-perfusion cell apparatus as a means to study drug transport across externally accessible biologic membranes. Flurbiprofen was buccally absorbed by a passive diffusional mechanism and the rate of absorption was pH dependent. Membrane permeability coefficients for flurbiprofen were 4.3 x 10(-4) cm/sec at pH 5.5 and 2.1 x 10(-5) cm/sec at pH 7.0. These findings are in agreement with the pH relationship for buccal transport observed in dog experiments.

1 In a double-blind crossover study, flurbiprofen produced marked relief of pain which was significantly more than with aspirin and placebo in patients suffering from primary dysmenorrhoea. In contrast, there was no significant difference between the relief of pain obtained with aspirin and placebo. 2 The clinician's overall assessment of efficacy also indicated that flurbiprofen produced better response as compared to aspirin and placebo in these patients with dysmenorrhoea. 3 Both flurbiprofen and aspirin did not produce any apparent adverse effects on blood loss during the menstrual period.

Flurbiprofen and ibuprofen, two propionic acid derivatives with anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity, were compared in a double-blind multiclinic study in 195 patients with osteoarthritis of the peripheral joints. The patients were given 80 mg/day flurbiprofen or 1600 mg/day ibuprofen for six weeks. Pain, subjective evaluation and functional tests improved significantly in both groups. There were no statistically significant differences between the two treatments in any of the responses. Gastro-intestinal side-effects, generally mild, developed in 5-6% of the patients.

A clinical study of 90 cases of vernal keratoconjunctivitis was conducted to ascertain the efficacy of the local use of flurbiprofen and compare its effect with that of betamethasone. According to this study flurbiprofen was found to be effective in vernal keratoconjunctivitis, but less so than betamethasone. Because of the side effects due to prolonged use of steroids, it is recommended that topical flurbiprofen be tried first and in case it is ineffective, it should be replaced by betamethasone.

We report a 23-year-old man presenting with chest pain. He denoted skin eruptions on his hands, lips, mouth, and penis 24 to 36 hours after he had taken flurbiprofen 10 days ago. Detailed examination showed an ulcerated, pitching lesion with a dimension of approximately 2x2 cm on his penis; however, other explained skin lesions were ameliorated. ST elevations were present in the electrocardiogram. Cardiac biomarkers gradually rose. The scintigraphy showed myocardial hypoperfusion in the inferoseptal wall. This phenomenon is a rare case of myocarditis due to hypersensitivity reaction. In the ca

This study was carried out in a group of 40 patients (both sexes) aged between 18 and 65 years old. The following pathologies were controlled and studied using collutory flurbiprofen: aphthous stomatitis, pressure ulcer caused by badly fitted mobile prostheses, radicular residue, particularly sharp and cutting dental cusps, pre-and postoperative treatment for the diagnosis of embedded 8th. The topical use of collutory flurbiprofen enabled a rapid resolution of phlogosis and painful symptoms to be achieved. The positive results obtained using collutory flurbiprofen in the aforesaid pathologies

The nitric oxide (NO)-donating nitroxybutyl ester of flurbiprofen (NO-flurbiprofen), shows reduced gastro-intestinal toxicity relative to flurbiprofen. NO may exert either pro- or anti-apoptotic effects, while non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may induce apoptosis. The aim of the present work was therefore to compare the effects of flurbiprofen and NO-flurbiprofen on apoptosis in guinea-pig gastric mucous cells. Apoptotic activity was assessed by assay of caspase activity and from the fragmentation and condensation of nuclei. Incubation with flurbiprofen for 24 h produced a concentration-d

The efficacy of flurbiprofen was studied by means of a double-blind randomized clinical trial involving 50 patients with an acute lateral ankle distortion (grade I). It could not be demonstrated that the NSAID shortened the duration of convalescence after this injury. Neither the pain nor the swelling showed a statistically significant decrease. Side effects were more frequent in patients treated with flurbiprofen. In view of these findings use of flurbiprofen in the treatment of acute ankle distortions is to be regarded as inadvisable.

Following the suggestion that prostaglandins are involved in corneal neovascularization, two inhibitors of prostaglandin formation, prednisolone acetate and flurbiprofen sodium, have been evaluated in two experimental models of corneal neovascularization. The fatty acid cyclooxygenase inhibitor, flurbiprofen, at concentrations of 0.01% and 0.1%, significantly decreased the rate of vessel growth compared with vehicle controls in both silver nitrate cauterization and anterior chamber alloxan models of corneal neovascularization. Prednisolone, at a concentration of 1%, was used as a positive cont

Topical flurbiprofen was compared with placebo and prednisolone 0.3% in the treatment of episcleritis by a randomised double-blind trial. Seventy-seven eyes were included in the trial. Rapid spontaneous improvement in symptoms and signs was noted in the majority of cases. There was no significant difference between the cure-rates of patients treated with flurbiprofen and placebo over a 3-week trial period. The proportion of patients treated with prednisolone 0.3% who were cured was significantly higher than in either of the other groups after 3 weeks.

Thirty-four patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, who were treated with flurbiprofen at a maximum dose of 4 mg/kg/day, had statistically significant decreases from baseline in 6 arthritis indices after 12 weeks of treatment. Improvements were seen in the number of tender joints, the severity of swelling and tenderness, the time of walk 50 feet, the duration of morning stiffness and the circumference of the left knee. The most frequently observed side effect was fecal occult blood (25% of patients); however, there was no other evidence of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding in these patients.

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used for analgesic and anti-inflammatory purposes but are often hampered by side effects such as gastrointestinal issues. Flurbiprofen, a potent NSAID, has significant therapeutic potential but may cause adverse effects due to its non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibition. This study aimed to enhance its efficacy and reduce side effects by developing flurbiprofen-loaded ZIF-8 nanoparticles (FP@ZIF-8). ZIF-8, with its high porosity, pH sensitivity, and biocompatibility, serves as an excellent carrier for targeted drug delivery. FP@ZI

The analgesic efficacy of flurbiprofen (Ansaid, Upjohn) and aspirin were compared in a 12-week, double-blind, randomized, parallel, multicenter study of 147 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Flurbiprofen (73 patients) was administered two, three, or four times a day in total daily doses of 100, 150, or 200 mg; aspirin (74 patients) was also given two, three, or four times a day in total daily doses of 2,000, 3,000, or 4,000 mg. Flurbiprofen was found effective in controlling pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis. In general, the flurbiprofen group showed greater improvement in effi

Goats infected with Trypanosoma brucei and treated with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent flurbiprofen, showed a marked increase in parasitaemia, followed in one of the four goats by death. The in vitro response to mitogens of peripheral blood lymphocytes and separated T- and B-lymphocytes from healthy goats treated with flurbiprofen was normal when compared with non-treated animals. T. brucei-infected goats, not treated with flurbiprofen, showed a marked immunosuppression which was mainly localized in the B-enriched lymphocyte fraction. A combination of T. brucei infection and treatme

Twenty-five patients suffering from primary dysmenorrhoea took part in a double-blind crossover study which demonstrated flurbiprofen (100 mg three times a day) to be significantly more effective than paracetamol (1 g three times a day) in providing pain relief on Days 1 and 2, and on the worst day of pain. Flurbiprofen also appeared to reduce the incidence of secondary symptoms of nausea and feeling faint, and menstrual blood loss. The study was also analyzed as if a parallel group study and showed flurbiprofen to be significantly more effective than paracetamol.

Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is associated with pain during the four-step procedure. This prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study was conducted to investigate the effect of the analgesic flurbiprofen, administered prior to HSG, in 60 women. Thirty women were randomized to receive 100 mg of flurbiprofen, orally, 1 h prior to HSG and a further 30 women were randomized to receive placebo. Injection of contrast medium was more painful than the other steps in the HSG procedure in both groups; however, there was no significant between-group difference in terms of pain experien
